Exactly, it won't work, and next time the pitchforks won't scare anyone.

Yea, I really don't have any respect for Destiny because he's immature as hell, but that's already well established.
Sometimes one man's trash is another man's treasure, but Destiny is clearly still trash. Quantic should release him, they were smaller at one time but now they have Sase, Naniwa and Startale. Why keep a player who acts like this?
He doesn't need to play for a team anyway, he's not popular because he' a good player, he's popular because he's an idiot who appeals to kids who think it's funny when you call someone a gook or a nigger. I think it's awesome that people are posting threads like this, maybe Quantic will stop sleeping in coL's dirt. It would be addition by subtraction imo.

Just goes to show that once you reach a certain celebrity people stop caring about respectfulness and tact.
Let's look at this from a different perspective, perhaps? We all want e-sports to go mainstream, right? For players to make 6 figure salaries and fans to have incredible experiences in massive hotels watching amazing tournaments worldwide? How can we honestly say this is going to happen when the community accepts this horrific language as normal practice. How can we yell at Idra for six-pooling and then be ok with racial slurs and intolerant epithets. What do you think an NBA athlete would get for saying these things? Think about the fact that there have been people fired from ESPN and news shows simply for inappropriate comments (chink in the armor, joke about penis size) regarding Jeremy Lin.
This is absolutely unacceptable and it is our responsibility to fix it. I hate to keep adding to this idiotic thread but he said it on his personal stream which makes it different then someone from ESPN saying a racial slur. The fact is most people posting here wouldn't even know he does these things unless this guy posted something about it. No actually that's not different. Even if it is on his personal stream he is still a public figure employed by Quantic. If any ESPN employee or personality said that on a stream they'd be fired immediately. The only thing that makes it different is the community believing that racist remarks are okay and Quantic obviously not giving a fuck about how their players act.
His "personal" stream is also at the TOP of the featured streams list (usually by virtue of alphabetical order) on this SC2/BW community website. Disregarding the branding of Quantic, the branding of TeamLiquid itself is at stake and worth protecting. Idra getting banned for calling Crusher a waste of life, while Destiny's constant use of hate speech for rager ratings is swept under the rug is a sign of mixed messages.

Your one-liners aren't much better. That's why I attempt to make actual arguments rather than just cherrypick sentences and spout pseudo-clever nonsense. Actually, you're the one shouting pseudo-clever nonsense sans the clever part. He had a valid argument when he said you were straw-manning his point because you were. No where does he state or indicate that he is "trying to ruin his [Destiny] career because he isn't their cup of tea." That's YOUR assumption. It's rather presumptuous of you to assume that you know a person's motives better than he/she does. Based on everyone's posts, most people don't bear any malice towards Destiny, but the exact opposite. They're more concerned with the malice Destiny bears towards minorities. Isn't that how your entire argument began? Over whether Destiny is a racist or not? It's amazing how you somehow where able to turn the conversation around into an ad-hominem attack towards TL members when the original subject was Destiny and not the TL community. I think you're missing the ironic character of the post, lol. You sorta argued my point for me! Heh.. I'm not sure how much clearly I can express the fact that "I dont think anyone here is particularly stupid" than saying it outright, but apparently I'll still be accused of ad hominems because that's a convenient way to attack someone's credibility. Alas . And actually, people have been trying to tell me that this argument isn't about whether Destiny is racist or not, which is what I've been arguing against from the outset. So, in a way, it seems you agree with me, actually. You are completely unable to respond to the points that people make. You condescend them a bit and tell them that they're proving your point, you've done it a number of times in this thread. The point is that you presented a blatant straw man. You claimed that people are taking action because Destiny isn't their "cup of tea" when in actuality they've been very clear that the reason is that they believe he spews racism. Could you actually respond to that instead of changing the subject? Sure. Sorry for wording it wrongly...happy now? I should have said 'people who think Destiny is racist" rather than "not their cup of tea." he is not a racist, your interpretation of his language is racist I don't think he's racist O_O.
It doesn't matter if you think so or not since we can't do anything but guess. What is CLEAR is that he continues to use racist language / hate speech which further supports racism (you can read why here: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=319018 ). Sure, most of us have ignorantly done this in the past and have corrected it if we were mature enough. However, Destiny continues to support racist language after this is pointed out to him. Is it his right to say these things? Sure is. However he is on a team. That team has sponsors. He is representing them and they are supporting him. Do you see where this leads? They are indirectly supporting racism/hate speech through supporting him. I am pretty sure they are unaware of this and this whole fiasco will culminate in them being made aware of it.
Will they react? We shall see.

There is something that Destiny is very good at, and that's publicity. Name recognition is a huge part of his value to Quantic.

My 2cents : Destiny is free to do whatever he wants, it's his stream and I believe he's right to just "be himself'. However, I don't see how he remains a featured player with this attitude. He's mostly an entertainer, he is a good player indeed but still far from the top, and he spends a lot of time playing other games. Ok, he's listed in "others", true, but "others" are casters and entertainer" who are recognized as public figures, and it's seems unfit from TL to endorse a public figure who frequently calls peole niggerfaggotgooks.
Not only that, but I believe that xenophobia is actually fairly common and that there's always some truth in the racial slurs we use. I never call people niggers, like I would never call people gooks, because I don't see it as an insult. If however it is such a common form of swearing for Destiny, then I believe it is because he thinks part of it, although he can never publicly admit it.

Gook is extremely offensive, I wouldn't expect anything less than him being unfeatured.

As expected. The only offensive thing going on is in this thread.
Do you realize that everyone is going to vote whether or not they're actually Asian?

We all know Destiny's (probably) not racist or using it to insult someone of another race, but it does send the wrong message if we allow such things in the community to happen. What he's doing isn't considered normal and it's very reasonable that newcomers or even people who watch his stream take offense.
Destiny has every right to say what he wants, but we shouldn't support him using slurs if we know what's best for the community and if we want to be taken seriously in the mainstream. It's not hard to get someone to change their habits. We should send Destiny the message. He can change, not us.

Would be really funny if it turns out that Quantic makes more money off of their connection to Destiny than what Razer pays them and then they just split with Razer and everything just continues like it is now
|
Lol we have been through this entire thing before! go watch the video debate about the last time someone accused him of trashing eSports by using hurtful language that pretty much sums it up
|
Destiny became "good" through his abuse of infestors when they were really overpowered. Its funny to see him bm people who abuse strategies too. Idk, guess its just interesting. Either way, its his stream and its what he is popular for, so if it bothers you, don't watch his stream.
|
Everyone knew Destiny as like this it's the reason Complexity didn't pick him up because he's not willing to change it, Quantic took on Destiny under full allowance that Destiny does his stream in his own way, with Quantic's background and that's that. If you don't like it don't watch it, I enjoy the willing to speak out against some people type stream everyone else are just conforming to the line of how they should act which is silly.

The mainstream does not take video games seriously because they're video games, it has very little to do with how players act. I think even the most cursory glance at some football and basketball players will show a less than stellar track record at being exemplary members of the community, that isn't the problem, nor will the community ask Destiny to change when a sizeable number see no problem with the status quo.

Originally this said something like that "If Destiny is trash what does that make you?"
All I can say is I don't even BM when I lose and there's no way in hell you'd catch me calling anyone a gook. Anyone who talks like that to another person, over the internet or not, is a trashy person and I don't feel bad at all for saying so. If I knew him personally I would tell Destiny the same thing
