BTW anyone knows what was with Alex Muller's tweet to Alex after his emotional post about hardships in pro career? Was it an offer Alex declined, legal help or what?
Perhaps he wanted to offer a spot on SKP to rebuild it for the expansion tournament since they were moving Fox to the main team but the rest of the roster kinda fell apart and lost the spot.

LCS is expanding to 10, China is expanding to 12 and Korea is getting down from 16 to 8.
This was the punchline.
RIP champions was fun while it lasted

Can't beat Korea? Lets severely cripple their format & hope a foreign team will win next year!

I'm so salty it's not even funny.

good thing riot got their region locking rules in place just in time before a shitload of korean players lost their jobs!!!!

Im really heartbroken about these korea changes

b-b-b-but reserve tournaments, so they can keep their B-Teams
7 teams are probably Samsung, SKT T1, KT Rolster, CJ Entus, Najin, Jin Air and IM?

Maybe form a new team out of those who lose their jobs and pick up a new sponsor? Do Xenics even exist anymore? Can't find them on the Champions/NLB Summer Leaguepedia page.

Groundbreaking new esports never seen before and we'll have region locking because no other esport does that either!

It turns out that the best way to "improve the welfare of Korean pro-players" is to get them hired by Chinese billionaires so they can start raking in those e-sports $$$.

The changes to format and current absolute top players leaving for dirty chinese money really suck for korea....

Generally I understand why they changed to a league format. But I dont get why 8 instead of 10 or even 12 teams or why 10 players per team.

I just don't understand how Riot, Kespa and OGN can think that this new system is better than the previous one or that it even makes sense. 5 players on the bench ? Who will want to do that ? You're spending your entire time playing LoL, training for years and you're going to accept a job where you don't even get to play on stage ? What is this...
The most upvoted comment on Inven has a point too. Riot is creating LCS Korea but they aren't even making Korean players Riot employees and they won't give them the Riot income that Western players get. They are using pleasant words like "player welfare" but it's only words really.
The worst part of this is that no organization has the power to stand against this decision and it will probably be enforced regardless of the Korean and international fans' concerns / the players' point of view. Sigh...

I am pretty sure Kespa teams want to keep those 5 extra players so that they can have a home team to practise against like before. The Korea fanboys should actually love this because it means that nothing in these changes indicates Korean teams becoming weaker competetively. I dont like it because it is a disadvantage for less well off teams because they maybe can not afford to have high quality players on position 6-10.

Mandatory minimum wage does exactly the same thing. Of course it depends on how high that is to have parity with LCS players in this regard.

Well Korea fanboys enjoy the Korean scene too, not only the Korean dominance, and half of the players leaving the scene is obviously a loss. Korean fans are certainly not happy about this (can easily be seen on Inven where all of teh comments are negative), and I guess people like me (the I-fans who enjoy the KR scene more than the western one) will probably be unhappy too.

Except this wage will be determined by KeSPA, the exact same organisation that has been neglecting players' salaries and conditions for years in every e-Sport in Korea... This is why the Korean fans don't think that this will actually bring much to the players. It would be very surprising if the "minimum wage" set by KeSPA wasn't extremely low.

And thats the last time I watch lol.

So.
To be completely fair, 8 teams makes sense initially because it means that 99% all of them will be teams with legit sponsors, when with 10 it could be some amateur team or a quickly made team formed by benched/released players with some shady sponsor.
Round robin will still be more enjoyable in Korea than in any other region because IM vs Samsung is still more enjoyable than EG vs C9 (inb4 "EG is a top3 team") and their middle of the pack is Jin Air/CJ/KT, not SHC/ROC/MIL. And in fact I'm not the biggest fan of Chinese 12 teams as it means just more games that aren't worth watching and that means I'm probably gonna stick with watching only OMG matches or something.
Single team rule means we are throwing accusations off the bridge. Also we'll never see a situation where a team is constant rebuild mode because "we already have a legit one so let's experiment with the other" (CJ, Najin). Also, we'll never see a situation where an org just happens to make two great teams and then they just train with each other, snowball their performance and end up dominating the world.
Lack of winter season is the absolute worst, because it soldifies Riot's format where we have one good big tourney (though with uneven level), then 3-4 months where almost nothing happens... Outside of tournaments no one gives a fuck about because teams are in holiday/rebuild mode, see: the latest Chinese tournament, BOTA, WCG etc. IEM might honestly be a better circuit than Riot's one, but they rely on popularity too much and as such we rarely get good competition. Without Champions Winter, we are left with just a few mediocre tournaments until January. At which point we're so hungry for LoL that we're gonna watch the shitty roundrobin leagues. 6 months of roundrobins, 2 months of playoffs... And that's it, now hope that Worlds will be at least as exciting as S4 and not as dull as S3
