I don't know I feel like Chunky has shown great patch adaptability, his Yasuo was super good when people were all playing Yasuo, his Zed was pretty good when zed got hot again, when Riven mid was big back at the beginning of the season his Riven was one of if not the best Rivens on the NA ladder. I feel like a common mistake with a lot of people is to judge champion pool against someone trying to focus on only the strongest champions (amazing was a victim of this, his team failed to punish full jungle bans)
Play against his Jayce now and tell me he doesn't pick up the new strong champions fast.
Like I"m not even saying that he'd work out for whatever team would pick him up, but there is more ceiling picking up the top solo q mid than some guy who already got a go in the lcs and was replaced.

The NA scene, in general, is risk averse when it comes to soloq players. They'd rather take a shot on mediocre pros/imports than take a shot on unfound talent. Then when recycled players and imports happen people start getting up in arms about a "lack of NA talent" and the loop cycles around again.

well to be fair for every Quas there will be a KiWi

Well Kiwi wasn't even good in solo q before he got picked up. It was more nepotism(is this the right word?) that let Kiwi be in league. His friendship with Scarra got him that place.

Can't you say that about any scene though? For every Korean superstar that comes of soloqueue, there is an entire team of Xenics, Prime and Big File rejects that get shuffled out just as quickly (or to China/Brazil/NA, as it turns out).

With mediocre pros you know the baseline of how they'll perform. If you fuck up on a solo q player it's weeks you can't afford to either fix their issues, or if they just don't perform on LAN, to replace them and start the process over again. A team OWNER (and that's the key part) would generally rather finish middle of the pack than risk getting relegated vs the reward of potentially finding that stud.

Theres also streaming, which means a popular player who sucks still generates more revenue in the short-to-medium term than a good player nobody's heard of.
Really its only the cutthroat "if you're not the best, you're shit" attitude that promotes aggressive talent scouting in Asia. Being in the middle of the pack is worse than making a gamble to be #1.

This does not apply to Jesiz whatsoever though, they clearly went for a unpopular move here. As in general the recent LCS roster changes do not look like they were influenced by popularity considerations.

I guess, it was just harsh generalisation :D But considering that Bang, ohQ, Swift, CoCo, Daydream, Piccaboo and (sorry, God), even Arrow, not speaking about Impact and Beelzehan are all Xenics, that sounded awks.
Not speaking about Prime Optimus adc who is going to play in SKT T1, so i won't name him here.
Also, are those rumours about Madlife in Samsung real or what?

Yeah as long as we dont know the format or even how many teams will be in their premier league these kind of speculations are kind of moot.

Alex Penn and his Twitter pals have now also realized that Coast should not have an expansion tourney spot anymore after Santorin left. And they dont understand either why Coast seems to think they still got the spot.
I read through the rules thouroughly and could not figure this one out, they should not have the spot anymore. It is really confusing.

mabye they thought if they pretended things were cool nobody would notice.

Well, I think the only reason TSM hasn't announced Santorin yet is to avoid another Lustboy issue as Riot drags their feet with checks and paperwork. Since Coast loses their spot based on the Santorin move, Riot is slow rolling the announcement of the seed loss due to not pre-empting the Santorin announcement.
If the Santorin deal is done in the private venue, I'm pretty sure Riot has already told Coast and made them be quiet about it until the announcement goes out.

It's not like Coast wasn't in this situation before, right? Remember, what happened when they got relegated by co, Nintendude played in Ro8 of CS and then left and it was okay. So, i'd expect Santorin to do same.
Coast is such mess though, they and XDG are just sick candidates for worst managed orgs in esports ever.

As that Twitter conversation notes, the difference is that using Santorin for one series means he can't play in LCS for 4 weeks, whereas the only downside for using Dude/Wiz/Day was that they couldn't play for the remainder of NACS1.
The only option that makes sense would be flying one of the Koreans back or having them play online since the first round is online. Or maybe Coast can lie about the whole thing and have Jesiz play Ringer's NA account? LOL.
I guess they could just grind ladder games for the rest of the week too but that seems like it could be a challenge if they do not have a jungler or midlaner. They'd probably wind up with a worse seed.

I doubt TSM will let that happen. Santorin would have to be practicing with Coast to some degree all the way to November 22nd,the date of Coast's 1st expansion tourney match and IEM San Jose is 2 weeks later. I'd assume Coast will just get their team to around the top of the ranked 5's ladder like everybody else (Fusion is already 3rd on the ladder after 30~ games). Also I would guess that the 1st rounds of the expansion tourney are played on the final season 4 patch while San Jose will be on one of the 1st couple patches of pre-season which would be more of an incentive for TSM to get him onto their roster officially as soon as possible.
