Since this whole topic degenerated into the usual balance flamefest where every topic ends up if unmoderated it's time for it to clean up. Locking this down for a while. Any posts made after my post [page 233] not addressing the changes in this patch directly and containting flames or general balance whine will get banned for at least a week. ~Nyovne

Ultras are useless as a primary endgame composition in ZvT. You never say "I want to go muta ling baneling until I have ultras out." You're trying throughout a ZvT to end up with as many broodlords as possible (this isn't always true, but against most strategies it is). When ultralisks are incredibly useful is if you can somehow have them when the bulk of a terran army is destroyed by an initial push and they're left only with minimal numbers of tanks and marines defending a key position. That is most often the situation where I have ultralisks and I don't wish that I had made broodlords instead. The fact that they will now come out faster, thus giving terran less time to reinforce a position is pretty significant on large maps (probably moreso than small maps).

dunno about this..like immortal change, warp prism obviously needed for more interesting strategies for P..helions nerf needed too, maybe this is too much but we will see..what I do not understand is the build time of barracks, makes no sense to me, would prefer a change to marine fire rate or something instead..ultralisk change is kinda wierd too, change was needed but TO the broodlords first, then you can buff ultra buildtime really..as if Zerg needs ultras right now to win..id like to see them but as an alternative/other option then the OP broodlords. infestor change was needed too ofc..happy with that, how this will play out we will see..and what exactly gonna be in the patch goes to show aswell..

Does getting Blue Flame and the +1 attack end up equaling the original blue flame upgrade?

yes, but carapace (an upgrade that all zergs will eventually get) will cancel it out

They said it is coming Soon™.

I wouldn't fuss over it. They have other things to worry about, like balance and bug fixes. It will definitely be here when HotS rolls around, they wouldn't dare release it without it.

also given the sheer scope of the changes, i imagine there will be a second revision of the ptr (anyone remember fungal missile)

i think the funniest change out of all of them, is the +5 seconds to barracks timing could easily be implemented by simply making better maps

Why didn't any of the tip top protoss players realize before, this is obviously the reason 1/1/1 is so good!

THE SENTRY GUARDIAN SHIELDS DONT WORK AGAINST SIEGE SPLASH. WTF.

That's 2 damage less, siege tank damage reduced from 35 to 33.

If your opponent has, like, 2 siege tanks that's a 4 damage that you just straight dodged.

I played mech yesterday vs a toss who went collosi and it worked well. about 4-5 tanks in the back shelling the collosi but now they will be focused down so fast. TvP is hard as it is already! Not to mention that they will tear apart mauraders.

I wish I would find something positive from this whole patch. Blue flames drop is way too big now lings, marines and zealots are way too good even workers starts to be viable option in slowdown/defence against the cost.

Infestors needed nerf against marines, not against armored, now they put Zergs in huge underdog in ZvP when we include previous freeze time nerf. Immortals are making already f* up stalker = roach match impossible for Zergs to win. Stalkers are OP in a way against all zerg units already (excluding mass lings and hydras), which both are needed either in huge numbers or are way too slow or fragile in even match. Blink research time change doesnt change anything really.

So whats left... Ultra change... Yeah 4 bases for gas and maybe you can get Ultras out... maybe. Which can provide some coverage for lings, but not usefull even with upgrade for their cost to size at screen to armor/damage ratio. Whats left? Longer barracks time... wtf. Already hard to def against 6 pool, why to make it weaker? In offence that time is pretty much useless, rather something like combat shields +5 and health -5, to compensate early 2 rax attacks or marine creating time increase.

Maybe I am just stupid (yeah I am) but I really have hard times to find anything positive for current balance in this patch. Rather it seems to mess things up that players have already overcome.
Twenty Marines is nothing, twenty Mutalisks is everything.

The only changes I can think of that have been QQed about are infestors and hellions. And there's widespread agreement that both of those are a little strong.
