After reading stalife's blog about him and his girlfriend, and someone asking how I met my boyfriend, I thought I might share my story. : ]
I go to an Anime Convention every year. I don't really cosplay, but I go so I can party it up with my friends, meet new people and make new friends, and just get away for the weekend and have a good time. I decided I wasn't really interested in Anime anymore, but I still went. I thought, I'll sit in the LAN gaming room for most of the time, talking to the people I knew and watching some good tournaments. On the second day, I watched a few tournaments(TF2, Starcraft 2), and saw some cute guys. I love going to Anime Conventions, because of the cute, geeky guys. Is that weird? On the last day, I was using my friends DSLR camera. It's like, a 1.5k camera. I was taking pictures of my friends in the LAN room doing the SC2 Tournament. One of the cute guys I had noticed earlier came over to me, and said, "That's a nice camera." and commented on how the pictures I was taking were really good. I told him the camera wasn't mine, but we kept talking anyway. I told him I was interested in playing SC2, and he said we should definitely play together when I get it. He added me on steam and facebook, and I was incredibly ecstatic for the rest of the day, and couldn't stop smiling. End of the day, we said goodbye, said we'd talk more online, hugged, and he left.
We started talking online lots. We would talk on vent, play Counterstrike together, and he'd talk to me while he was playing SC2. My birthday was at the beginning of September, so I asked him to come. He even switched his work shifts around so he could come. I was so happy. =) He gave me 20$ for my birthday, which I put towards buying Starcraft 2. From then on, all we did was talk on Skype, and play Starcraft 2. I was absolutely TERRIBLE at Starcraft 2. Honestly. But he was patient with me and we kept playing.
I invited him over for Thanksgiving, since in Canada, our Thanksgiving is in October. He spent the night, and he said to me, "I think I'd like to be more than friends."
We've only been dating about 3 months now, but it's been absolutely amazing. I've never met anyone more caring, more supportive, and someone who loves SC2 as much as I do. ♥ We play games all the time together, and he is even willing to endure 3 hours while I sit and get my hair done.
We're actually heading to a Starcraft 2 tournament tomorrow, and we're both going to be competing. I'm super excited. I love having someone around who's interested in what I am, and we can share many experiences together too. He even watched Jersey Shore with me, and enjoyed how ridiculous it was.
Just wanted to share my happiness, and hope you all find happiness too. ♥ Learn from other people's experience, and instead of looking at that cute girl, go for it! ♥

The nifty things abut anime conventions are that they're filled with socially awkward nerd girls, perfect for socially awkward nerd boys! If you're marginally attractive and have a decent personality you can probably bring one home with you.

awesome story, a girl that plays sc2 and counter strike? that is love
|
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Hmm, I've been to one Anime Convention and every girl I talked to was incredibly shy and awkward. I guess places like that have no room for bearded men.

What tourney are you going to? Will it be streamed on TL by anyone?

If anyone has any ideas, that'd be fantastic. He suggested Gears of War, System Shock 2, DC Universe Online, Sven Co-op ~

I'm really glad someone asked you to share your story because that's an awesome story. I bet that person is like, wicked fucking cool, too.
A friend is taking me to an anime convention this April so here's to hoping I find some cute nerdy girl, too. ^_^
As far as suggestions for games, you mentioned Battlefield 2, but I'd try out Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and its expansion, Vietnam. You could just join a squad together and go own peoples' faces.

I admit I'm an FPS snob, but the maps aren't that fun, the guns aren't that cool, and just in general I didn't enjoy it.
I love BC2, though. Like, a lot.

this is sooooo cuutttteeeee! grats for having a relationship with a fellow nerd ^_^

Nice story, turns out having a casual discussion on cameras could lead to a relationship. Black OPs isn't really worth the money, like LazyMacro said, it's just another generic FPS that's in the Call of Duty series.

Notice how much positive comments there on here. If you were a guy, there would be a lot more trolls.
Also, last time I went to an anime con, I couldn't figure out where the LAN was.

I was thinking the same lol, I would have just bought the game straight up, he got lucky that you chose to use it to buy sc2 because i'd buy the game because that gives you the excuse to play all the time with them xD.
As for other games to play, try LoL, because you know what they say, if a guy talks to you mid game in dota, it means he really loves you.
The game is terribly addicting though because its like a slowed down simplistic version of dota. Pretty glad I was able to quit but I think it'd be a good game for you guys to dabble in to.

I heard Vancouver is where all the S Class girls (in terms of looks) are at. Confirm or deny?
If confirmed: Are the S Class girls gamers? (Does not have to be S Class. They'd be better than me if they were!)

I'm basically asking do you think the girls in Vancouver are cute/hot. I know you're a girl, I'm wondering from a girl's point of view. My friends are debating if the Toronto or the Vancouver girls are better looking and from which perspective.
|
Vancouver>Toronto. I don't know many girl gamers, to be honest.. o_O
I know lots of nerdy, geeky girls. o-o
Every girl is attractive. WHY ARE YOU ASKING. =[

I told you, we're having a debate!

Well, I've never ever been to Toronto, so I have no experience. But I know lots of beautiful girls, and cute ones.
But, there's lots of.. gross ones too.. D: Like, guido/guidette type girls.. D:

Its time to farm the anime conventions.

whooooo life. ^___^ at least we lost togetherrr, muwahaha.

Make sure you do, you will not regret it! BW needs more players :3
|
You might lose interest altogether at how frustrating AI, no mbs, no easy walloffs, etc. are in BW lol.
Not to mention a lot of people play for a long ass time and can't hit D+
Just stick to SC2 and learn the fundamentals, I don't suggest the BW route at all lol
To neco. I'm not saying that BW isn't a great game because it is a wonderfully crafted game at the professional level, but one thing it isn't, is fun for people who aren't great. No offense Raeleigh but if you're a bronze level player, the fundamental mistakes made at that level, made in BW, will lead to 6-9 minute losses non stop, and it just won't be fun.
|
I don't understand why we're talking about this in my blog, to be honest. >_>
|
Zlasher in wrong. Go to BW. You'll love it and you'll never play SC2 again. Just make sure you play people your own level instead of getting stomped on ladder.
^ This is very related to your future relationship with your boyfriend. As the founding fathers of the USA once said, "a relationship with SC2 cannot stand."
|
SC2 is too easy. Brood War is definitely not a casual sport.
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/0CK4N.png)
And I went to Anime North. Toronto.
NOOO, I DON'T WANT TO BE A QUEEN! GIVE ME BACK MY LURKER!!!!
|
BW is much more rewarding in my mind. Every battle won in a close match is a small victory, every unit you out micro your opponent with, every strategy you come up with that out wits your opposition. The game is just great top to bottom.
I am completely bias against SC2.
|
I've played BW lol, many people have, in fact there are hundreds of thousands who have and currently play SC2 so I don't know how far that argument will go that they'll never play SC2 again. And especially nowadays, iccup is getting stomped on ladder 25 times before you hit keyboard and mouse level.
|

First off, really cute story. Its awesome to get these nice gems of things turning out great amidst the sea of more negative blogs!
Secondly, if you haven't played any BW its good stuff. There are lot of fun things you can do casually with game just to play for fun with your BF. Sure doesn't have to be 1v1 grinding.

BF2 will frustrate you as much as SC2 at some points, but MAN I love that game. I was Top-500 in the world when it was still big Waaaaaaaaaaaay too many hours logged.
If you like it, we should play BF3 when it comes out (in 2012 or w/e lol)
