After reading stalife's blog about him and his girlfriend, and someone asking how I met my boyfriend, I thought I might share my story. : ]
I go to an Anime Convention every year. I don't really cosplay, but I go so I can party it up with my friends, meet new people and make new friends, and just get away for the weekend and have a good time. I decided I wasn't really interested in Anime anymore, but I still went. I thought, I'll sit in the LAN gaming room for most of the time, talking to the people I knew and watching some good tournaments. On the second day, I watched a few tournaments(TF2, Starcraft 2), and saw some cute guys. I love going to Anime Conventions, because of the cute, geeky guys. Is that weird? On the last day, I was using my friends DSLR camera. It's like, a 1.5k camera. I was taking pictures of my friends in the LAN room doing the SC2 Tournament. One of the cute guys I had noticed earlier came over to me, and said, "That's a nice camera." and commented on how the pictures I was taking were really good. I told him the camera wasn't mine, but we kept talking anyway. I told him I was interested in playing SC2, and he said we should definitely play together when I get it. He added me on steam and facebook, and I was incredibly ecstatic for the rest of the day, and couldn't stop smiling. End of the day, we said goodbye, said we'd talk more online, hugged, and he left.
We started talking online lots. We would talk on vent, play Counterstrike together, and he'd talk to me while he was playing SC2. My birthday was at the beginning of September, so I asked him to come. He even switched his work shifts around so he could come. I was so happy. =) He gave me 20$ for my birthday, which I put towards buying Starcraft 2. From then on, all we did was talk on Skype, and play Starcraft 2. I was absolutely TERRIBLE at Starcraft 2. Honestly. But he was patient with me and we kept playing.
I invited him over for Thanksgiving, since in Canada, our Thanksgiving is in October. He spent the night, and he said to me, "I think I'd like to be more than friends."
We've only been dating about 3 months now, but it's been absolutely amazing. I've never met anyone more caring, more supportive, and someone who loves SC2 as much as I do. ♥ We play games all the time together, and he is even willing to endure 3 hours while I sit and get my hair done.
We're actually heading to a Starcraft 2 tournament tomorrow, and we're both going to be competing. I'm super excited. I love having someone around who's interested in what I am, and we can share many experiences together too. He even watched Jersey Shore with me, and enjoyed how ridiculous it was.
Just wanted to share my happiness, and hope you all find happiness too. ♥ Learn from other people's experience, and instead of looking at that cute girl, go for it! ♥

I think the biggest thing is you just gotta be confident and go for it! >: D!

The nifty things abut anime conventions are that they're filled with socially awkward nerd girls, perfect for socially awkward nerd boys! If you're marginally attractive and have a decent personality you can probably bring one home with you.

awesome story, a girl that plays sc2 and counter strike? that is love

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Hmm, I've been to one Anime Convention and every girl I talked to was incredibly shy and awkward. I guess places like that have no room for bearded men.

What tourney are you going to? Will it be streamed on TL by anyone?

If anyone has any ideas, that'd be fantastic. He suggested Gears of War, System Shock 2, DC Universe Online, Sven Co-op ~

I'm really glad someone asked you to share your story because that's an awesome story. I bet that person is like, wicked fucking cool, too.
A friend is taking me to an anime convention this April so here's to hoping I find some cute nerdy girl, too. ^_^
As far as suggestions for games, you mentioned Battlefield 2, but I'd try out Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and its expansion, Vietnam. You could just join a squad together and go own peoples' faces.

You wouldn't believe how many couples meet after the words "Hey, that's a really nice camera" are spoken
