Clan Art will organise relaxed Casual Sunday tournaments every now and then on sundays with different formats and themes. The aim is to meet up and play some gm games and have fun. We will also in general try to get everyone to play a decent amount of games, even if you happen to loose the first two-three games.

Hype
I know that a big fraction of posters on TL has some kind of real lives outside sc. I know that many TLers are a bit shy for playing with what they think are better players. I know that some think that there are, God Forbid, more important things in life than sc. But from now on, you can say goodbye to all that!

So common guys: stop seeing friends, quit sleeping, ditch your gf, quit you job, drop out from school, ingore your exams!

Because Now is the Age of Clan Art Casual Sundays!

First Casual Sunday: With chz plz!
Tournament over. 12 participants.
Sunday 9:th of march 2008
+ Show Spoiler +

14.00, 2pm EST (NOTE: in new daylight saving time!!!)
11.00, 11am PST (NOTE: in new daylight saving time!!!)
18.00, 6pm GMT (NOTE: moved back 1h due to stupid DST in US!)
19.00, 7pm CET (NOTE: moved back 1h due to stupid DST in US!)

First Casual Sunday will start 3 hours prior to TLattack, and to satisfy the commentators craving, this weeks theme is cheese. Come and fine-tune your new leet cheese that you are going to unleash on NonY!

Registration
Not strictly neccesary actually. HOWEVER, it'd help me alot if you let me know that you are planning to play. I realise that people cannot promise 100% to turn up, and therefore hesitate to sign up, so let's use the system where you post your estimated probability of turning up. Are you almost sure that you're going to play? Put 80%. Are you planning to get drunk on saturday, and expect to be hungover/sleeping during the tourney, but still want to play? put 25%. You get the point. People signing up without percentage will be defaulted to 70%.

name/percentage

"Registration" is open until the minute the tourney starts. Participants will be decided by who are in the channel at the set time, so make sure to get there on time.

Since this is a Clan Art tourney, I want you to register for Clan Art to play, if you havent already.

Format
Depends on how many turn up. I am thinking some sort of "quadruple elimination" where you play 1on1 and drop down the brackets as you loose. From winners bracket to loosers bracket, to n00bs bracket to complete bbqn3wb-bracket, etc. You get the point. Modification will be made depending on exactly how many turn up though. Maybe I'll have to do a few groups of 3 to get things to match up.

In the winners bracket I intend to use normal 1on1 on cheese-friendly maps. I need help to pick out good maps for this, as I'm a n00b myself, but I've understood that Blue Storm and Troy are good for cheese?
Ill follow fusions (thanks) suggestion and go with

troy
blue storm
RoV
Blitz X
Peaks of Baekdu

The following is just an idea, let me know if it sounds good or bad:
As you go lower in the brackets, the format will turn less serious to give space for creativity and cheese. I've not really made up my mind on exactly what, but I'm thinking in terms of blood bath, 3-way ffa or maybe make a VERY cheese friendly map? It'll be a suprise I guess.

Where to meet
Us West, op clanart. From there on you can go and play the games on hamachi, or on bnet with or without chaos. Hamachi or chaos is reccomended, so make sure to get one of those, or both, installed by sunday!

Last words
All these are preliminary plans and Im ready to change things if you find them stupid/boring/we. I want, no NEED, feedback on the map-pool to make this as fun as possible!

omg, I spam smilies...
Well, see you there.

Second Casual Sunday: 2 makes a Team
postponed. Stay tuned for more info!
Sunday 16:th of march 2008

15.00, 3pm EST
12.00, 12am PST

Lets abuse that TLattack is having a break and have it an hour later this time. This weeks theme is teamwork and cooperation. Last weeks tourney had flaws, but actions will be taken to make everyone know what's going on, and keep everyone playing as much as possible.

Format
Teams of 2 persons. Come with an ally, or find a random teammate when you come. if possible I recomend you to come a bit early and try to hook up with someone before we start officially. On the creation of a team, the two players should play each other in BO1, to decide who is the first player, and who is second. During that game the team is also required to come up with a good (funny) name for themselves. Failure to do so results in me making up a n00b-sounding name for you. The players are after that obliged to create smurf accounts with their new teamnames tag, for clarity and amusement.

After that, teams are free to play each other as they want. No brackets, no scheduals, no nothing. Just pick another team and play them. Two teams playing each other is a B05.

Game 1: first player vs first player
Game 2: second player vs second player
Game 3: 2on2
Game 4: Team melee
Game 5: Ace

Game 1 and 2 are obviously played simultaneously. Ace game works like this: each team send in one fo their players, OR both their players.

Both teams send in 1 player: 1on1
Both teams send in 2 players: 2on2
one teams sends in 1 player, the other sends in 2: the 2 team melee vs the single other guy.

Winning versus another team gives you points according to my own very strange ladder system. The number of points you get is the number of points the other team has +1. So if you play a team in the first match, you will always recieve 0+1 = 1 point, since the other team will have 0 points. If you win vs a team with 6 points, you will win 7 points by beating them. The amount of points teams get will get very high very fast, but that's only fun. No lost points for losing. I will constantly update the teams points in this OP, so you can challenge the team with most points.

The 2 teams with most points after lets say 3 hours, then plays the final. Final is B07:

1: player 1 vs player 1
2: player 2 vs player 2
3: 2on2
4: team melee
5: 2on2
6: team melee
7: Ace

I'm eagerly awaiting suggestions for the map pool.

"registration" is open as long as the tourney lasts, as this is a drop-in tourney.

Since this is a Clan Art tourney, I want you to register for Clan Art to play, if you havent already.

Where to meet and play
Bnet, op clanart at us-west. To avoid the confusinion from last time with people being everywhere and not being able to play each other:

All games will be played on battlenet with the Chaos Latency Changer.

Chaos latancy changer can be found here. Make sure to have it installed before the tourney. Also feel free to drop a line in the thread about how awesome the latchanger is. If you cant play because you dont have an original cd-key, then ffs, manner up and pay blizzard for creating the greatest RTS ever. If you are having some other issue with bnet, then I'm sorry, bad luck.

Last Words and feedback *zooming feedback sound*
As normal, I would liek feedback. Map pool as normal. Is the time ok? This time we got some freedom in moving it a little bit in each direction, so requests will not be turned down by default. Is 3 hours good? too much, too little? Any other opinions on the format? Maybe we should take top 4 teams and play semifinals?

Thanks to evanthebouncy for reminding me that "Casual" could (should?) mean drop-in.
Thanks to randombum for the team melee idea.
Thanks to walrus for being a good slave last time and keeping some order where I failed.

I hope these new concepts work out well.

18.00, 7pm GMT

As TSL is going on, this sunday we will just meet in OP clanart on US West and play some games. If 8 or more persons turn up, and we feel like having a tourney, we can divide two brackets that can play double eliminiation and then have semis and finals.

As before, everyone are encouraged to come with chaoslauncher.

If you plan to come, feel free to register by replying and stating your estimated probability that you will turn up. This will encourage more to join, so it is for your own best.

I will be there on time with 75%, but I may be late due to IRL issues. Shouldnt be a big problem with this format though. So see you all on sunday!

Sounds like nice idea. Sounds fun if u say ur gonna mix up different tastes (ffa, blood bath, etc), but people might have objections to that. IMO its a nice idea.

Btw, im not able to play this sunday since my time zone is GMT+3 so it would start 10:00 for me and i have to go to school the next day. Will the time be different next sunday?
(Note: TL attack starts at GMT 11pm if im not mistaken, so 3 hrs before it starts would be GMT 8, not 7)

Edit: sorry i was mistaken. TL attack starts at GMT 10pm, so GMT 7pm would be 3 hrs prior. Thx for correcting me Cascade

Yeah, I'm just suggesting actually. If the players want to play on a normal map instead, I'll of course let them do so.

Hmm, timezones... why cant the world be flat!? I would move it for you, but then it is going to be too early for western US... it's already 11am for them. And you are indeed misstaken. TLattack starts GMT 10pm. But I WAS considering having one hour earlier.... if we get many people it may take more than 3 hours to play. I'll let a few more reply and we will see.

I wouldnt like it if one of the finalists would drop out, but as long as you dont think you are going to win the tournament it'll be fine. Normally I can give your place to someone kicked out, or improvise something with the brackets.

Also, real men don't need sleep! Which reminds me, I forgot my usual rant about how people shouldn't make up excuses for not playing sc! brb, editing!

Hey Chill! Can you give the winner a game vs NonY? Would make the tourney so much funnier, and you'd get an at least decent player.

Replays from this tourney will of course not be released until after TLattack, as Nony otherwise would look them all through and prepare for the cheese builds.

Contrary to common belief, swedes actually don't round that much. i certainly didnt. Actually, reliable sources has it that greece and Australians round a lot more, due to high shell population density.

Thanks Saracen for the typo, and thanks fusion for the maps! I may end up using those straight of if I dont hear other opinions.

Haha, you plan to get a game with NonY as well? If you can eat your lunch REALLY fast, Im sure we can figure something out. Worst case you will autolose a game and jump down a bracket level.

Ok, it is little more than 8 hours left until the tourney starts, and we are currently at 8.916 participants actually turning up. Registration is open until the tourney starts, and you are welcome to just turn up in the channel op clanart at that time and you're in. Anyways, we will probably be enough to get a tourney going at least.

Since i've heard no other opinions on the maps, ill just go with fusions map pool for the winners bracket. I may add some more spice in the lower brackets, but if the players think that my suggested map is just stupid, it is ok to override and just play on one of the normal maps instead. We are here for fun.

EDIT:
OMG, DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME!!!!! O_o
NEW TIME!!!

ok, so (stupid) US change to daylight saving time today, europe does not. I will stick to the "3 hours before TLattack" schedual, so the US times will be unchanged (but in the NEW time!!), while europeans will have to make it one hour earlier. ill update the OP now.

Sorry for this late "change" of time. As all other problems in the world, it's origin is the US government, and I claim myself without responsibility.

As you can read in the OP, we meet in "op clanart@USwest" on bnet.

Normally people go to "Clan Art 9//liquid" to play their games on hamachi afterwards. I'll provide you with everything you need to know when the tourney starts.

A slightly messy tournament finally took place. We had 12 players signing up, and while some dropped of as we played, other random persons dropped by to fill the spots.

A problem was some players being on Hamachi, other on chaos and yet other on icc which made communication and setting up games hard. Next time we will probably just stick to chaos at bnet. Those that have hacked sc version that cant play on bnet should just manner up to blizzard and buy the game. Also, some followed the cheese mantra religiously and played games of less than 5 mins, while other, just out of principle, played long endgame matched, which made for plenty of waiting time for some.

Anyways I hope most had fun, and I'd call the first Casual sunday a sucess with room for improvements. Thanks everyone for participating!

Duke won over BlueLaguna aka Cloud in the final.
Mushu and Echoofrain tied at 3: rd and 4:th place.
Randombum and ecoli on 5:th and 6:th place.

Hmm, which other time do you suggest?
This time of day is the only time when both europe and US are awake. Weekdays cant really be done, since US players are at school/work at that time of day. Maybe saturdays, but then it'd be saturday evening for europeans, and people often have real life activities at that time. It basically only leaves this time on sundays. :/
Or what do you say?

Information on next Casual Sunday will probably be up within a few days. Please give feedback and suggestions.

Ha, thanks for the shoutout, I hope team melee works out for people.

"All games will be played on battlenet with the Chaos Latency Changer."

Guess I have to get a new cd-key if I want to play in this tourney . Here's a tip for to some of you, don't put both your cds in the broodwar cd-case, it doesn't have a cd-key rather keep them in your original sc case.

If both players are obviously better than their opponents. Say a nony/idra team played some random pubbies like us. One of them could easily defeat the other two in a team melee.

but they'd have an easier 2v2 win

and i don't think it'd work unless it were like 1 A rank vs 2 Ds

Randombum: well, maybe you want to get a new cd-key anyway? I'mjust doing you favour helping you get it done!

So should we make it 3 hours instead, and then finals?

And, yeah, I expect most ace matches to be 2on2. I guess it'd be good if one team is a really good player and a really abd player, while the other team is two meduim players. Then probably the really good player would be better of 1 vs team melee than in a 2on2.

I was about to just put another 2on2 as last game, but that'd be a bit boring. This gives at least SOME choice, but it is complicated and not that much more fun,as pointed out. Anyone got good ideas for game 5? Mabe the winner of the 2on2 get to decide wether to play 2on2 or another team melee?

I got another crazy idea for finals.... what about taking the 4 teams with most points and pit them against each other in a 2on2on2on2 on hunters? The two last surviving teams (4 players) go to the finals.
pros: Great fun! BGH could potentially give even funnier lategame, but allows for extreme stallmates as well... normal hunters is probably better?
cons: Very luck-based. The best team can very well be ganged up and kicked out. Then again, this isnt REALLY about winning. Also I know that I have this irrational love for ffa.

It's not always about winning. If two strong players joined as a team they would obviously win the whole tournament, and being no money involved it might as well be fun. And for the good players a 2v1 team melee would be semi-challengable to them vs a 2v2 where they would own.

For 2v2, I say anything in proleague except python :D. Specifically Vampire, Hwansangbul, Troy(!!), Usan Nation, Iron Curtains have to be in there

1v1, fairly obvious what we should play, the current map pool in the leagues and I guess brining back some older maps like Tau Cross, Peaks, Requiem, Nostalgia, etc... would be cool too

But in all honesty, since this is a "casual" tournament I'd say any map should be playable. (edit: yes even DMZ and Demon's Forest and Blizzard maps and other user/non pro maps)

I say I'd have a 74.6789% chance of being there.

But only casually of course.

So how about we let the losing team chose any "normal" map? Or the team with least points if they are even. Or on common agreement if on the same score. Or I chose if they cant agree.

Sacaren, I didnt get it. Are you playing? You got a percentage?

I'm of to bed now, so I wont reply for a while. I'll try to check in on things before going to work tomorrow. Keep coming with the registrations and ideas meanwhile!

lol, thanks for that percentage walrus! You want to coorganise this event as well? If things go as they should you shouldnt have to do a lot though. Basically only keep an eye on things in your timezone...

And I'm starting to get a few ideas for nametags I'll give to teams that wont make up their own.
I would for example love to see the team "superiorNAME" with the players superiorwalrus and superiorpenguin in the channel! Also the team "DaWG-->NAME<-- would be sweet.

Actually, now that I think about it, Cascade, you and I should take turns being the main organizer of the sunday tourneys. I would feel bad if you didn't play ever, with the work you put into them. Anyways, since I am going to be embarrassed when I anger my teammate by proving myself to be about as useful at sc as a box full of kittens, (and equally as cute, mind you) I am hereby offering to be the one that sits out and organizes this one. Idk, lemme know if you are ok with it.

Bump.

Is anyone interested in having a casual sunday while TSL is still going on? I intend to get this going again after TSL anyway, and I was wondering if it would be worth it to do one before that. So if you would like to join a casual sunday this sunday, or the next one, please post here and let me know. Time will be more or less same as before.

Format is still open for suggestions, but I got some ideas. We could also give another try to the 2on2 cooperation format if people feel like it.

Anyways: this is going to start again after the public part of TSL is done.

Ok, thanks for feedback!

We dont seem to be very many (as of yet) so for now, lets just meet in Op Clan Art this sunday normal time + Show Spoiler +
15.00, 3pm EST
12.00, 12am PST
18.00, 7pm GMT
19.00, 8pm CET
And then we will go on a few hours or as long as people are still there.
I think I got the daylight saving times right now... :/
and play some friendly random games. If more people turn up, we'll maybe even make a small tourney out of it.

But at least during TSL, lets do this as just a meeting rather than a full tourney.

I updated the OP, so registration for the "Casual" themed casual sunday in two days is now open.
