Adun toridas fellow Brood War enthusiasts. We at the Swedish Brood War Initiative are hosting a tournament in Sweden, Gothenburg and we want as many of you to attend as possible!
The capacity for the amount of players in this tournament is set at 32 players. We will be having a single elimination in the rounds of 32, 16 and 8 followed by a best of 3 in the rounds of 4 and 2.
Prize money are not set in stone at this moment seeing as the more people who enter the higher the prize pool will become. We do however have a minimum amount set:
1st place 30€ (300kr) 2nd place 20€ (200kr) 3rd place 10€ (100kr)
An admission fee will be set at 100kr (approx 10€), this fee will also make you a member in SBWI if you're not already.
The time and date for this event in the 23rd of November at 1500 hours. Seeing as we got the opporunity to run this on a saturday we will be going out for drinks after the event to get to know each other better.
The location is at Vasa Gaming.
We'll post updates here as time goes on so stay tuned.
*Stream and casting will be avaliable. **Starcraft quiz with a price for the winner.
***Aftermaths of the tournament:
We ended up being 8 people and due to being so few we did a bo3 in all games.
The participants were the following:
Troy (winner) 50€ Gene(S)is (2nd place) 25€ Abjurer (3rd place) 15€ DarkUIla (forgotten name, to be inserted later) (forgotten name, to be inserted later) ImWithStupid Defco (first bw game ever - courageous!)
Unfortunately no videos were saved from the stream. As mentioned in the thread no one had any real experience in streaming and all our casters got interference and ended up not coming. We're sorry about that and we will do better next time.
We never got around to do the quiz either so there is no winner to announce on that part either. This was our first offline tournament and we will gladly host additonal ones in the future and make things a lot more organized, have sign-ups, release map pool prior to the event, supply with vods and pictures.
Small interview with the winner:
Q: Name? A: Benny "Troy" Sundquist Q: Age? A: 26 Q: When did you start playing BW? A: I started in 2002 but I hadn't touched BW prior to this tournament for 6 years so I'm really rusty. Q: How did you prepare for this tournament? A: I couldn't prepare as much as I would've liked to, there was no information on who would participate, I didn't know the players races nor the map pool, so I just did a few games this week and hoped for the best. Q: Who's your favorite player? A: Well I love Boxer but I also love Jaedong so I'd say in SC1 it's Boxer and in SC2 it's JD Q: What do you plan to do with the money? A: The cash will come in handy for a nice hearthy meal and cover some of my expenses for my trip since I came out of town to participate in this tournament.

Sweden is such an awesome country
|
If only this would happen in Romania as well...
|
Admission fee same as 3rd place prize is kinda awkward Anyway looking forward to this, if prizes would get bigger maybe someone outside Sweden might come. Hope to see stream from LAN
|
That's it! I'm moving to Sweden!

Great to see the gothenburg clan hitting it off! I might (maaaybe) be able to cast this in Swenglish with vOddy if that would be appreciated. Also mewka, this is minimum prize pool so we can get a good picture of what the scene really looks like so that we dont host a tour for 500$ with 4 no-name players.

Would it be really possible for an English speaking person to hang out with you guys, without being a pain in the butt? Flights from London to Gothenburg are literally only about £20 at that time.

We'd be honoured to have you or anyone else here who takes the effort to come overaseas. I hope we can solve some accomodation for people who travel from afar. I am going to look into it.
I did forget to mention that we will have casters in one way or another. Either we'll have designated ones or people will take turn in doing it and I hope that as many of you as possible will tune in through the stream if you can't be there in person.

If only it wasn't so expensive to travel from America to Sweden

Right....maybe we should just gather up as many crazy foreigners as we can, and open a SC:BW house in sweden, sounds like a plan.

Are you in Sweden?! You have to come mate! It'll take a few hours by train but once you get here it will be worth every minute you spent on that train! You will have free accomodation too

When's the last day for registering? I'd love to attend, but I'm gonna wait and see if there are any last minute tickets that won't hemmorhage my poor student economy.
|
I'll need to come to Sweden, I can't pass this tourney.
|
damn... one way ticket costs 520 kr.. I've got a car, maybe there's someone else who lives near Västerås or on the way to Göteborg and wants to join the trip, so we can separate bensin cost.

Ask Eywa to sponsor you the travel costs, in return you'll play on the LAN as LRM)Marwin.
|
I guess I should join up, since I live in the neigbourhood :D
|
So...
...how do I sign up? :D
|
I'll come and cheer! And drink! YAY!

There is no final date for that, I'm not sure if I should make web formulas and have people pay cash on an internet account... I was actually hoping it be old schoolish and simple, that people would be there in person and say "Hey I'm here for the SBWI tournament!" And we be like "Hey welcome, please have a sit and feel like home brother"
Crushie
So...how do I sign up? :D
Just bring your pretty blond-blue-eyed self there. PS: Don't forget the polar bear!

Yes you should, you really should! :D If we can bring a big bunch of keen players we can knock their socks off and most likely have them begging us to come back asap with another tournament

Yeah that is pricey, the buss fairs are also around similar expense. Hope you get that carpull!

Hemmorage? More like a transfuse! Aim for that first price and you'll make it back as a richer man;)

Or, rather than mock someone's efforts to help out another player, you could make an effort yourself to start a community fund to send this guy to the LAN. I guess that might be beyond your capacity and knowledge though.

Alright guys, I'm gonna crank it up a bit by posting this in my BarCraft group on FB 'cause I feel like it would be a bit treacherous to hide this from them, this might draw more people to the tournament which might "risk" making it full. I know I said there won't be any signups for it but if people intend to come here from afar, such as those from the capital or even abroad I of course don't want you to miss out on having a seat.
So I want people to think carefully during this week if they will attend and then I'll put a few slots reserved for you.
|
People from capital (as Gene(S)is mentioned), I appeal to you! Let's find a solution how to make the journey profitable! Please answer if anyone is going to drive through E18, or I can get a car and pick someone (I inhabit in Västerås) so we can split travel costs. Tnx!
|
Most of our members seem to be located in Stockholm, I will give them a kick in the behind to see what their plans are.
|
Hoho, got a little poster that I wanted to share, it's in Swedish so won't do much good but still it's my first one so
Edit** Nvm, it didn't scale well at all, only showed half the pic, my bad for not making use of the "preview" function.
|
Is it possible to just watch the tournament?
Um, or, on the other hand, that may be kinda hard to manage.
Anyways, I will keep my eyes on this.
|
Yes, you're welcome to the location of this Gaming cafe. If everything goes according to plan a big screen TV will be in the "common room" where people can sit and watch. Should it be full in there one might even go as far as to rent a few hours on a PC and observe through the game. Or one can be lazy and watch it via Twitch
If you live in Gothenburg I implore you to come in person!
|
As time draws near I wish to remind you all once again of the tournament which is to be taking place this Saturday. Will this tournament become a traditional eSport event to be reckoned with or a mere one-timer is all up to you.
|
Cant wait to watch this tour Any possible line-up from LAN ?

I reeeally wish I could have made it for this one. Next time I will!!!
|
Today's the day! Depending on the amount of people that show up we carry on with the tourney or we might just play some casual BW and then head out for some beers. Pretty sweet either way!
|
hope it will be pretty good tour with stream
|
I dont know if we can promise a stream unfortunately I'll update the OP if we get one going!
|
Hey, anyone here who can observe our games and stream to our TV? We have problems with distorted colours and stuff. We need a caster asap ♥
|
|
I've submitted the event to the calendar, if some mod want to have a look at it that would be nice!
|
|
its on calendar but no stream link there
|
I really wish I saw this in time as I was even in gothemburg this morning ... but alas I spotted it now T_T
|
|
unfortunately i stayed at home sorry guys, i wish next time this tourney holds place in stockholm, not so far away...
|
|
Sorry for the poor production values, no one of us know their way around streams n stuff :p

Did a small update on how it went, bare with me though

Defco (first bw game ever - courageous!) haha :D
and already went to the LAN tour !
|
I wasn't there, so I can't proclaim what a huge success it was. But I''m gonna do so anyway.
Since it was a success, and enough people showed up to make it worthwhile, I would like for the SBWI to sponsor more of these events in the near future. I'll talk to JaevlaTerran about it.
I would also love to have one in Stockholm.

I was there and it was a nice group of BW-enthusiasts!
Even though I haven't played since I was a kid I still played an epic (fail) 40min game vs GeneSis (which I lost... damn op psystorm) It would be nice if more people came next time!

How many people participated + pics

Are there any other B/A players active on Sweden?

But if Marwin lives in Västerås...
edit: also Boundz(DarKo) has had his moments of gosuness and could possibly challenge vOddy. Then there are some others who might be active from time to time but have no interest in supporting SBWI so I personally don't stay in touch with them. Ruskig among some of the oldies from swe-1 who play max 50 games per season.
