9 pool 8 drone 9 extractor trick 10/9 overlord Also, there are tons of variations of 10 hat 9 pool or 10 hat 10 pool that use the extractor trick 10 hat 9 pool 9 extractor trick 10/9 hat 9 pool 8 drone 9 extractor trick 10 overlord 10 hat 10 pool 9 extractor trick 10 hat 9 extractor trick 10 pool 9 extractor trick 10 overlord Don't bother with the extractor trick if you're not going to do a 10/9 build or a 9 pool - the overlord is only 4 mins less and that's assuming you do it PERFECTLY. The lost mining time on your trick drone evens it out. 9 ol 12 pool or 9 ol 12 hat is better without the trick. | ||

In the situations where you're making an overlord late because of 9 pool or 9 hatch it makes sense. There you actually gain a drone that will be mining all game that you wouldn't otherwise have had because you would have lost that larva. With 12 hatch or 12 pool you're just getting that drone a tiny bit faster in exchange for 2-3 trips worth of minerals which he won't make back in time ^^; | ||

extractor trick on 9 overlord on 10 pool on 10 drone to 11 expo on 11 3 sets of lings and ling away (my preferred variation from here on out) gas around 15-17 and lair once you have 100 gas this is most effective on really close maps such as Requiem or paranoid androide where 2 gate zealot rushes are very threatening vs early expansion. This build provides enough lings to hold this off, lings quickly enough to put pressure on an early expand, and the option for extremely quick mutalisks (oftentimes very effective if a protoss has made too many zealots) (other than that i almost never do it) | ||

I did this on Gaia. With Extractor Trick: 9 Extractor Trick 10 Pool - 1:17 9 Extractor Trick 10 Hatch - 1:56 9 Overlord - 2:03 9 Zerglings - 2:30 Without Extractor Trick: 9 Overlord - 1:00 9 Pool - 1:23 9 Hatch - 2:01 8 Zerglings - 2:15 I think for anything conclusive a few people would have to do both on few maps, as well as different and same start locations on those maps. Then we could see if there really is much difference in terms of speed. Also, there are obvious variations in drone count, and order of execution, I'm sure that could have an effect as well. | ||

The Extractor Trick generally isn't profitable mineral-wise. However, in builds where you don't plan on getting a second Hatchery for a while, or when you plan to delay your overlord significantly, you've got larva spawn to consider. It's best not to have your Hatchery sitting at 3 larva because that's like an unglowing CC, so in certain builds doing the trick can be like slipping some fraction of a Drone in for free. | ||
