In a push with tanks I would almost never try to surround a large goon force with mines, you usually need them to buffer for your tanks. If you would clearly win a pure tank vs goon, you can try to cut off the retreat path with mines, but this is a very rare scenario (like when you catch a mine clearing group of goons off guard with your push). Generally I would not recommend this surround goons with mines tactic unless you have atleast 2 Vultures for every Dragoon and you face less than a control group because they will kill vultures and mines so fast that it is unlikely to do damage.

I would shoot once before laying mines so that some goons would die to a single mine hit. You cannot really attack after you lay the mines because you would lose all your vultures to the mines, too. Thank you for the added information. Especially the last paragraph; I forgot to mention the last part, but I did it unconsciously in my video above - I have 2 Vultures for every Dragoon in each scenario there. As you can tell in the video, @Golgotha, it seems like there is a diminishing return to the engagement as the group of Dragoons grows, even if it is vs. AI micro and not vs. a human.

Just keep in mind that this is far from ideal; I didn't even get the magic box properly every time. However, I think that you can get a rough idea of what I was trying to go for. https://youtu.be/jy8NQxwU0nw Thanks for the demo. So to make magic box work, I keep the vultures in formation and then mine? That will make them all lay mines? Because I hate it when only some lay mines and not everyone.

I've been watching his videos on his YouTube channel and he is a great teacher. He constantly details why he is doing what and explains how to respond. Every game. Great for new terrans.

Holy shit. My bois don't do this. They all hit the same spot. Damnit. Brood war is really cool. I knew of magic box but for Mutas and scourge. Did not know that ht spells can be used like this. It's basically multi spell casting ![]() Edit: did blizzard know of this mechanic when making the game? Or is this another thing like muta clumping.

I have a slightly related question: Whenever my vultures lay mines, they lay themselves underneath, they wiggle, giggle and squirm, as they crawl away -- most of the times. Is there a trick that makes them scoot quicker after they lay a mine?

Also, does anyone know the old 2 factory goliath drop build that used to be used in tvt?/What circumstances it was good for [at least on pre modern maps]

12 gas= you don't cut scvs going 2 depot & factory In general, you use 12/12 for any fast CC builds, and 11/11 for any kind of factory / starport and other early pressure builds. 2 fact is an exception here as to make a strong 2 fact you need to go 12/12. You also 10 gas for 6-8 marine 2 tank push that hits 20 seconds faster than 12 gas.

If you use the magic box technique on vultures, they will lay mines in a hexagon and run to their next pathing point without a glitch interruption. Master this technique and your vulture harass will be a lot more effective.

I never heard of him before, just recently when I saw him vs a protoss and light lost to a single goon. Was light very good back in the day? he is insanely fast and very smart. he knows before a battle if he will win or lose and is so confident.

He had amazing multitasking and was godlike in tvz, but his tvp was always a weakness, but it was entertaining nonetheless

I don't think it a stretch to say it was as good as Flash's, and in some ways better. I think that Flash was an innovator in TvZ more than Light, but Light's bio play was on another level. I remember one game, may have been vs. Jaedong but I forget, where his first group of mnm denied Mutalisk harass in the middle of the map on pure star sense (knowing when and where the Muta will be). It was the wildest thing I have ever seen in early-mid TvZ, completely nullifying Mutalisk on the map despite their mobility and speed.
