It seems like such a great way to screw zerg over by avoiding sunken/lurker pits at the zerg expansion and that nobody ever does it just frustrates me.
Because it's pretty risky I think. High risk high rewards. If the Zerg doesnt react in time, he will lose his base. On the other hand, if the Zerg notice it, it's not so hard to prepare against. He can snipe all your dropship, 40 supply down the drain. He can bring a single defiler, handful of lings and few Lurkers and you cant even drop the rines. At the same time, he knows that you are having 40 worth of supply floating in the air doing nothing, so he can just proceed to take out your mining bases.

At the same time, he knows that you are having 40 worth of supply floating in the air doing nothing, so he can just proceed to take out your mining bases. In TvZ bio vs zerg it's all about mobility. And dropships are so damn slow and can get shut down by scourges pretty easily. Let's say you have your bio force as Terran at zergs nat; you would like to bust it but can't coz of def/sunk/lurks. Only good choice would be to load those troops into dropships and drop in his main right? But since they are so slow, and it's usually very little space to cover for zerg (nat to main) it's very easy for zerg to counter it so it's a no-no situation in most cases.
Other example would be to try and use them to drop somewhere else, right? Like zergs 3rd or 4th. Well then you need to move your main force away from where it was and give the zerg mobility which that force was denying in front of his nat. And again it can be pretty damn easy to shut it down via nydus canal/scourge and you are left with no forces right about time when zerg is getting this huge army with swarms and his 4 gas is kicking in.
Only good thing about dropping zerg would be IMO what most pros do; that is they attack 2-3 places distracting the zerg and using 1-2 dropships to drop him in the same time, because he can't defend all the places at once and you are almost guaranteed to do some kind of damage and/or deny a base or two.
TL DR; In TvZ bio it's all about speed and mobility of forces. Dropships are slow. And mass drop requires LOTS of investments, resource and supply wise.

can't really comment on pvz, but with speed shuttles and the way protoss have to keep their whole army balled together it makes sense to abuse harass style drops instead of full-on army drops. you can sometimes see recall vs 4 base turtle.
edit: do you only mean old games? i'm sure i've seen many mass drop tvz games before the mech switch was refined. it can also be map and position dependent. try searching for long tvz games on outsider maybe? should be plenty of dropship use there.

Hello. I'm almost completely newbie to starcraft and want to know a thing that bother me. There are many web sites where game strategies are placed, and some of them come with timing when and what you need to do or to have. But the question I haven't found answer yet is 'What is the game speed strategies timing depends on?' Could you help me with this one?

I recently watched a replay where Hiya vulture jumped between two diagonal pylons without placing a spider mine. I thought it was only possible with spider mines... Does anyone know how he did this?
|
maybe there was another unit that allowed him to collide. scv/probe/drone etc

No, the only way to jump like that is to have unit's stacked (workers/spidermines). If another vulture laid a mine then it might have stacked with the vulture that jumped and forced it over. I think the most likely thing is that there was a mine and you didn't see it.

Where can I see how many point I'll lose/win against people depending on my/their rank? I remember seeing a chart somewhere of Letter vs Letter, +/- this many for loss :\
Nevermind I found it c:
Thank the ladder gods Starcraft FS is MotW this week so that my 1-2 against someone actually is positive points <3

I've always wondered about this but I've never changed my playstyle so I did not care. Now, I want to know. ZvP
Why do some Zergs get one hatch at 27/27, while others get two of them at once around 33-35 supply? Is it just preference or do certain situations call for one or the other?
Also related to this, after the hatches are down and scourges are out, some of zerg players really delay their sunken colonies and evo and den. Why? Isn't better to get them down asap after you have your 6 hatches on 4 bases? What are they waiting for? It's not like Z can skip 2nd tier against Toss, we need lurkers and upgrades. When do you guys usually place the den and evo? is it a certain supply or do you wait until you see something? If you wait for something, what is it?
Thanks!

i faced a hacker on fish. I was using wlauncher and wdetector. is there a reason the anti hack didnt automatically drop him? and is it just me or do koreans cheat like hell? I am korean and i feel safer on iccup than on fish. many times i face koreans on fish who dont hack but they play rigged maps so they can get to island expansion. fucking pathetic.
this time the fucker had full vision and 999999 minerals. the sad thing is I still lost even though the idiot is a cheating numskull.

Can't help you there cuz im not technology knowledgable, but maybe foreigners who cheat don't play BW and play a certain other game whereas Koreans stick with BW even if its just to hack

bro these cheaters suck that is why they hack. he tried playing standard and normal to hide his hack, but he was so goddamn bad I was sure I was going to win. but once i take down his 4th and 3rd, he goes full retard and comes out with a thousand scouts and a new deathball army. then i understood what I was facing. sorry for rant.

This was a game in one of Zimp's Hiya replay packs. Just watched it, he somehow gets it to go into freak-out mode and squeeze over the pylons, it's a relatively large gap and it looks like he was trying it by moving right up to the very edge of the pylons and right clicking on the other side, I don't know how many times out of 10 it would actually work.

I guess it's because iccup has an official map pack that you have to play to be laddering where as any old fool on Fish can rig a map and just call it Fighting Spirit 1.3 and no one will think twice when they see they're downloading it.

I actually find myself downloading maps frequently on iccup even though it's fighting spirt or some normal nonrigged map, any idea why? I have the mappack downloaded, as well as the fact I've probably downloaded the map already...
Also I hear 12 nexus and 14 nexus, I was wondering which matchup they are for and what situations? And are they immediately after pylon or does it just mean nexus at that time after a gate/forge

And are they immediately after pylon or does it just mean nexus at that time after a gate/forge There is a bug that occasionally happens where you will re-download a map from a host even though you already have that exact same map. I've noticed it many times over the years, no idea what causes it.
12/13/14 nex is a PvT build, you build the nexus straight after the pylon, it's not really situational since you do it before scouting, it's just a really solid build.
