What's The Counter to 1 Gate Reaver?

in PvP? I find it with my mediocre control difficult to not lose some probes to the drop... and that sets me behind... I am unable to get into his base without doing a drop myself- so is that the counter? Just any other drop? Or is there some other way to beat it (I was going for a conservative 3 gate goon).

3 gate goons is supposed to own 1 gate reaver hardcore. try keeping some goons defending the drop and go kill him. 3 gate goon's weakness is something like dt iirc

so if that sounds impossible to you, i think u need to get some micro help rather than strat

Hotkey your mining probes and move them as soon as you see the shuttle.

No. Reaver is the COUNTER to zeal. Shuttle drops reaver, zeals run to reaver, reaver fires scarab, shuttle picks up reaver. Repeat. Several gates of Goons should work just fine, however. Keep three or four in your base and kill the shuttle if it comes to your base. Send the rest of your goons to his base and apply pressure. If a newbie like me can figure it out, it isn't rocket science.

2 gate zeals should break anything he's got if he does a straight tech up with few units.

if you 2 gate zeal someone who is teching make sure to start photoning him as soon as you can afford it. they will go dt or photon behind their buildings, photon beating both of those

If the positions are close in pvp u cant go 1 gate anyway.
On far positions u can do a 1 gate without losing to a 2 gate rush. This however if u pump up non stop zeals. But u see when both player scout eachoter and see 1 gate none of them will go zealrush. So it will be bot tech.
About 3 gate goon wihtout suportive tech: it sux and does NOT counter 1 gate/robo on Lost Temple. There are islands and clifs. There for u will actually lose to robo tech with 3 gate power. If ur tihnk that u can run into his base u are severely wrong. 1Gate/robo is not FORCED to drop. He can use the reavers for defending his ramp and get obsevers to scout you and adapt. After a while u cant stop him from expanding because the reaver/goon will rape ur 'many goons' and u will be forced to go robo anyway. There is another possibility tho. When u contained him with ur 3 gate u could take another main or ur min expansion (if its not open to being cliffed) Then however u will have to defend 3 places. Ur expansion, your main and ur containement. Therefore speed shutlle is so powerfull in these kinda situations imo.

2 gate robotics will beat it, you can expand faster and still hold. Build your robotics close to your ramp and walk your reaver down it without shuttles.

1 gate robo is actually pretty weak. He doesn't get enough goons to do anything to you. If you stop his drop it's gg.

OK- so any micro tricks for dealing w/ Reaver drops? Like do you guys scatter your probes or what? Would you have to constantly keep 3 goons next to your nexus?

zdragon there is like nothing you 'always' do. Obviously you run your probes away from a reaver asap and not try to fight it, but that should be common sense. Other than that, you should know that if you want to actually stop a reaver drop you will need 4 goons for 1 reaver and 6 for 2 reavers. Where you keep them is up to you, but if you don't want to be reaver dropped successfully, thats what you need. Oh yah, and if it's not totally obvious, you focus on the reaver when its dropped and on the shuttle when its in the air. Ignore any other units like zealots or a dragoon.

there was a thread about antireaver scv micro. basically.

use area hotkey (f2-f4) for ur natural (while ur got vision on it), when reaver comes grab 12 probes hit f2-f4 whichever u used and tracsfer em DOUBLE time... (keep a probe etc to see min line, on LT this should be easy cuz u can see from ledge in most places, AND CLICK ON MINERALS)
also 2-3 goons around ur min line usually deters reaver and gives u something to micro while u run ur probes

if you have only 2 dragoons and he has a goon and a reaver you expect to hold? His reaver will get a shot or 2 at your probes for sure, and then their fate is out of your hands. Plus he'll definately kill your goons and make a clean getaway.

keep the majority of your goons at the nexus and just a couple to hold ramp, if he drops reaver will die, if he goes front move your goons.

That might work if you're lucky, but if he realizes a reaver and a goon beats 2 goons, and he decides just to rape those two goons..you might be in trouble :[ Any amount of reaver micro would kill that I think.. 2 shots for the first goon, and the other goon would probably only take 1 shot, since the other goon had been hitting it the whole time you're trying to target the reaver :[ (If you're smart enough to not have your goon shoot the same goon your reaver is shooting atleast)
