you really didnt do that bad of a job. I imagine anyone doing their first cast would have the same struggles. So don't feel too bad.

A terrible cast. What this scrub was doing in the studio is beyond me. His humor was terrible and he knew less about the game than my little sister. Random C-class SC2GG commentators would have been better. Heck, I'd have prefered even a guy talking Korean while Daniel Lee was casting in English. It was actually so bad that I didn't watch most of it, I just had it running on the background and got the results, but the casting was so abysmal that I couldn't have cared less about the games. Maybe I should have muted.

so sdm just walked up and asked ya'? i think you did a fine job considering the circumstances sjm 4tw!

It's called a fan thread, not a bitch incessantly over petty standards thread.
And if you could have cared less, then you wouldn't be writing paragraphs on just how much you hate someone in what is a supportive thread.

I think he did alright for being thrown right in on the spot. I didn't watch a lot of it because I was too tired, but he seemed to be alright. Not the greatest but, not completely terrible to listen to.
But I agree that GOM shouldn't have done that in a semifinals. It's basically their mistake, not Jesse's for not knowing how to commentate well.
If they really couldn't find anyone else better for something as important as a semifinals, why not just have SDM cast by himself, like Tasteless used to for them?
|
Hmm? GTR trolling? You say you diden't even watch his first game and you think you can make assumptions about what this guy does or does not know?
Edit: And Konadora too? I thought you guys were against trolls.. He got very good after the game began, in my opinion, but you guys diden't even care to listen that far!

lol he never got good, idunno what you're talking about
i'm sure the guys nice, he has to be to subject himself to internet wrath. but the casts were indeed terrible. like even worse than mine, and i got flamed the fuck out.

I have heard a lot worse casters..! It was a little shaky at the start but in the end his game casting was good :D Not the best, but for his first time at GOM he did much better than I expected.
Good work Jessie!

Some people are taking this way too seriously.

Guy made me watch WC3 instead of GOM, but tuned in for last game and it wasn't much better than at the beggining.People aren't trolling, they are saying the truth - he was clueless commentator who never should be allowed to commentate such important event, i dunno wtf was GOM thinking getting him, even as one-time replacement.

Um, I thought you were good. It's always good to get a new perspective of the game once in a while and you provided that. To all the haters, you need to chill out.
|
At first I thought he was terrible, but then as the games went on he got better. I still think sdm should of done it alone though.

I admit that I can never fill SDM's or Tasteless' or really any of the other casters' shoes. Also, I am just a casual fan of starcraft. I enjoy watching the game, and I'm not really into the proscene, nor do I follow all of the leagues. (I'm a little more worried about doing a good job as a teacher.) A few months ago I took a serious go of getting good at it, and I played Terran for about a month on Bnet, trying builds, experimenting with macro/micro, all that stuff. I lost a lot of games, won a few, and basically decided that it was more fun to just keep it casual. Just to set the record straight on what happened, I was in the studio minding my own business, and I was actually gonna make a sign that said "Token White Guy." I was doing that when SDM walks up to me and asks me if I wanna cast with him. Literally, he just asked me that; it was about as spontaneous as it can get. I did what any fan (including all of you HATERS ) would've done. Who wouldn't pass up an opportunity like that? They stuck me in the shirt, put me in the chair, and off we went. I know I'm not a funny person, so I was trying to focus more on explaining the game for more casual viewers (I learned most of what I know about starcraft pro gaming through GOM) based on my relatively limited experiences. I did not get paid, nor do I want to be. To me, it was merely a unique experience that's good for my personal development and an interesting story I can tell a few years down the road. Now, for the people criticizing GOM: Was it professional? No. Having tried it once, I've decided that I suck at casting and that the viewers would have enjoyed SDM by himself more. Plus, I could've said no after all. I don't intend to do it again either, since I'm rather flustered at my performance. That said, come on. Tasteless is gonna be back next week for the third place game and for the finals, so nobody's future is gonna be ruined here. I'm gonna go on being my casual fan self and won't intrude on the casting anymore.
Good thing to see you didn't take any of the criticism to heart. People will complain, they always complain, but I'm sure that basically none of them would have said 'no' were they put in your position. Nobody ought to judge you for that (or indeed, at all).
You sound like a nice guy. Keep doing your thing, man.

That's GOM's fault, not the caster. Considering hes just some guy they grabbed from the audience who has only played a tiny bit I thought he did pretty good. He certainly did better than some of the youtube commentators, and they 1) dont have to go up infront of a bunch of fans in a studio, on their first cast, at a semi-finals, between two players who will generate a lot of interest, 2) have all the time in the world to practice, prepare and even edit it later on if they want to, 3) can select which casts they release.
I mean this guy was basically grabbed from the audience, given no time to prepare, in front of a huge live+internet audience and TV cameras on his first cast. I don't know if you watched some of tasteless' early solo GOM casts, but a couple of those got pretty painful too.
If you want to blame GOM for just grabbing some random guy to cast, go for it. But attacking a starcraft fan because they were invited to cast and did their best job is pretty pathetic.

Glad to see you're not letting the haters/troll get to you Jesse.
I will agree that it would have been better with SDM by himself, and GOM F'ed up.
That being said, you did your best, and the people crying over you ruining the stream don't make a whole lot of sense to me. Just mute the audio if you really hate the commentary THAT MUCH. fusions is right in that Jesse was thrown on a Live TV set out of the blue, and that would be enough to make a lot of people a) nervous and b) mess up. I would be willing to bet all you guys freaking out about the whole thing wouldn't do a whole lot better. :/
