His humor was terrible and he knew less about the game than my little sister. Random C-class SC2GG commentators would have been better. Heck, I'd have prefered even a guy talking Korean while Daniel Lee was casting in English. It was actually so bad that I didn't watch most of it, I just had it running on the background and got the results, but the casting was so abysmal that I couldn't have cared less about the games. Maybe I should have muted.
SC2GG commentators are mostly D-, as far as I know.

Some serious jackasses in this thread.
You did great for being plucked randomly out of the audience, Jessie. I thought it was interesting, and it didn't take anything away from the games for me. You certainly did a lot better than I would have done in the same situation.
Fuck the haters Jessie, you did damn fine given the situation.
|
Never ever let the haters get to you. If I were at that studio and SDM asked me to cast with him, I'd have agreed immediately aswell (well, if I had the guts in that situation, no way to know until it happens), although my only knowledge of StarCraft comes from watching GOM (and lately proleague). This was just a tremendous opportunity for you, and I'm glad you took it.
No one can expect you to be as good as Tasteless or SDM. The most important thing was, that you kept your calm the entire time, although you were nervous of course. You always spoke very clearly and said what you could given your knowledge of SC. Biggest mistake a commentator can make is annoying the viewers, and you sure did not do that (well, if lack of knowledge annoys someone, you did, but that couldn't be helped). What I want to say is, that you did an excellent job considering your knowledge and preparation and impressed me quite a lot.
If there is any blame to throw around, throw it at GOM, and to an extend at SDM. I guess it was a spontanious idea, which makes him very likable, but he really shouldn't have forgotten your name, that was really really bad of him.
|
I didnt think he knew that much about starcraft, seemed like a really casual gamer, but he was okay to listen to.
|
i don't know about you guys, but saying "fuck the haters" is getting pretty fucking old.
|
It's not annoying to me because if the "haters" want any credence, they will rationally state why they don't like Jessie instead of going "fuck everything, fuck GOM, Jessie you suck". Lol, also the name of this thread is the "Super Jessie Man Fan Thread"
I thought it was decent, the best part was that there were no annoying ticks in your speech and at least your knowledge of SC, if not the pro scene, was decent. You were too calm though, and it's okay to scream at exciting things even if it feels awkward.

Tasteless is gonna be back next week for the third place game and for the finals, so nobody's future is gonna be ruined here. I'm gonna go on being my casual fan self and won't intrude on the casting anymore.
Lol wtf, that is freaking stupid, why did SDM do that -_- And yes you're right, any sane person / person who's not a pussy would have agreed to co-host with him. And yeah your cast was horrible but since I have a sense of humour I still thoroughly enjoyed it

Jessie, you got yourself a memory for life there, man. Thats something to be happy about. I certainly kept watching and enjoyed the games.
... and people whining about Jessie not being very familiar about Effort?
How about when SDM and Tasteless were both clueless about who Luxury was after he had been tearing thru everything for quite some time and even winning the MSL just prior to the match they were going to cast. Facepalm.
Jessie getting a chance to do something way out of the ordinary (at the viewers expense) doesnt really bother me, since SDM and Tasteless allready annoy me abit. Their fabled comedy value has imo dropped considerably, and their professionalism is random at best. I dont know what kind of contract they have with GOM - they may just be payed for time actually spent in the studio, but they dont do any research. Information they provide about players is mostly general common knowledge, which they at times are oblivious about as well.
In that respect, I personally miss Lil' Susie who made sure the players were introduced beyond "this guy is sooooo good" or "we dont know much about him". Artosis should be good at this as well, but I dont know. I dont speak korean, and cant easily pick up on information beyond "whos making the finals in tournament X". I have no access to real flavour info, and its not being provided during the casts either.
The format of the GOMTV casting is lacking. Casting during the game should imo be done as in any sport. One play-by-play caster, and one doing color commentary. A third person (who does not take part in the game casting) should be added "in the studio" between matches, doing introductions and asking valid questions about the game you are about to see/the one you just saw. This is a role Lil' Susie, or Artosis, or anyone else with a modicum of media and pro scene knowledge could fill.
As is, the roles could be better defined between SDM and Tasteless (they often try to fill both roles, with Tasteless simply being the one that talks more), and the third "host" role is completely missing as the in-between-games parts often degenerate into random discussion or Tasteless plugging his latest website project.
Ok, sorry, long post. I guess my point is "so what if Jessie was part of the cast, its still not a piece of happiness between two slices of heaven without him".

hey I think you did a great job considering you are just a casual viewer. Reading the comments before I watched the videos I expected horrifyingly bad commentary but that really wasn't the case at all. You are a lot better than most Youtube casters considering this was your first time and in a pressure position.
|
He did alright imo. I don't understand how people can bash him so much. Yes, his understanding might not be very deep but considering he is a casual gamer, he did much better than most people would have.
When people compared him to Tasteless and SDM, they made them seem so much better. Truth is, I find many flaws in Tasteless and SDM's casts as well. For example, they might get the players mixed up when commentation. They might name the b/o wrong ( saw this many times when they called overpool "9 pool"). They might say one player has a huge advantage when he actually doesn't. They might say this move is a bad idea but it actually isn't (and sometimes the player does what SDM and Tasteless said was bad and still came out advantageous). The list goes on.
I understand it was a mistake by GOM to do this for the semis so give this guy a break. It wasn't his fault. In fact, he did much better than what the haters described. Plus, he seems like a nice guy so stop hating.

Jessie did good in my opinion. He'd make a perfect third commentator along side SDM and Tasteless. I loved his voice and how he pointed out basic things you need to understand about the games in a very calm way.
|
I thought that it was much better to have a co-comentator to SDM then that he would have to cast alone. Even though Jessie wasnt brilliant he did a good job and allowed SDM to not stress out over the comentary.I remember first season of GOM when Tasteless was casting alone and it was horrible, even worse when Jason Lee was doing it. It would have been to hard for SDM to cast by himself and I think Jessie helped out fine.

Blast from the past! Holy man cakes batman!
I'm very, very sorry for resurrecting such a necrotic thread, but I have a sincere ask. Does anyone happen to have videos of my terrible, terrible casts that this thread is based on? I cannot - for the life of me - find any record of my awfulness on the internet anywhere.
It's been nearly 8 years, and I honestly just want to relive this moment.
To mods: Please feel free to lock this thread and ban me if this is BS. No hard feelings at all.
