So yeah it was decent commentary for the very casual fans but still a big step back from Tasteless and as stated in the live thread Tasteless isn't even in dept to begin with.

It's nothing personal against him. I would not do better on short notice myself even though I'd probably do it anyways for the lolz but in that case I would at least try to come off as a color commentator.

Listening to heritage finals afterward was a huge step upwards in quality. Artosis is very good and knowledgeable

Just because you know a lot about Starcraft, that doesn't have to mean that you know a lot about the Starcraft progaming scene.
To give you an example Tasteless know quite a bit about Starcraft, but many find his knowledge about the progaming scene lacking. While on the other hand there are posters on this forum that knows an insane amount of details about Starcraft progaming, but lack in knowledge when it comes to the actual game.

Whether this Jessie guy had enough knowledge about either is arguable, but considering he seemed to have been asked to commentate an hour before match start - and he had no previous experience commentating before - he did better than you could ask from him.
I would say he did better than Tasteless did before djWheat trained him.

Obviously Jessie shouldn't had never made his debut in a GOM TV semifinal, but that wasn't his fault, blame GOM instead.

I felt that he had no clue what he was talking about. Listened to him for like 5 minutes before switching to korean stream (thanks mystlord lol)

He wasn't terrible for his first game as a commentator, but I felt unconfortable listening to him. He was clearly quite nervous and didn't really know that much about the game. The only thing I hated about him was that even though he wasn't as good as Daniel he kept interupting him to explain how he plays the game.

Still, GOM fucked up big time with he semis. Hopefully the finals will go smooth, Tasteless and SDM will both be there and the stream won't die during the last game.

The worst part of it had to have been them making things up, when they were casting the Jaedong vs Effort games. "Do you remember this game?" "No I don't.... actually, I think Jaedong is on the aggressive, and all I remember is him winning this game and them taking it to the 3rd" (I don't remember him saying take it to the third, but Effort was 1 up, and he did say Jaedong was going to win) "I think you're right" * a few minutes pass* "Actually, you're wrong, Effort is on the aggressive, and I remember now, he destroys Jaedong here"

I think Jessie CAME RIGHT OF THE BAT and did quite good for his cast. He got the hang of it towards the end of the cast but he must have been really nervous, which was understandable. Maybe he should have had some training during the round fo 128/64.

He wasn't terrible, I actually thought he did okay for jumping in there out of nowhere. It was actually mildly entertaining, and quite gutsy of this Jesse guy to do... And like I said, he wasn't the greatest, but he wasn't terrible. Better than I could have done, haha.

But that's not my issue with it. My issue is that Gom should be more professional than that, to just throw some random out of the audience in to cast, especially for a freaking semifinal. I believe this scheduling conflict with Tasteless was known FAR in advance, so why not plan for lilsusie or ANYONE who actually has a reputation in the community to come cast?

Comparably, that's like some random football fan replacing John Madden because he had a shit-attack before the game... In the playoffs. It's great what Gom is doing for the foreign esports community, yes, but this little event makes it seem somewhat like a joke. That's the last thing foreign esports needs. =(

I'll grant that Jessie did well for a first time casting, on short notice. I'll further grant that he gradually started doing better as it progressed.

That said, what producer in his right mind would decide that bringing this random, inexperienced person in to cast (perhaps making Jessie's long-time dreams come true, who knows?) was a brilliant idea? It's still a step back for their credibility as professional broadcasters that they don't need, especially after the steps forward they took with their sponsorship deal with Blizzard, etc.

Gom scheduling the Semifinals B so close to Proleague Playoffs was poor judgement. Bringing in Jesse as a last minute replacement with 0 training or experience was poor judgement.
