also: if you just created an account that you want to keep, you have to login twice within 24h to actually activate it. this means that you can create the account, login, logout and login again

It's weird though, does that mean that names that would've obviously been taken years ago (common ones like say, Zergling or Zealot or something) have people still logging on every few months to keep their account? o_O

Or does it just mean that the account dies to the user who originally held it and nobody else is capable of using it?

It's really weird, it removes your account about 3 months if you have been inactive, but after those 3 months I can't remake the old account o.O so its just permanently dead. Anyone else or is it just me?

if the owner doesnt renew it then someone else will come along and snap them up.

Hm, are you sure it's 3 months? Because I just tried logging into an account that I'm entirely sure I haven't used since 2006 and it worked.

Well i have the feeling they expired faster in the old days, nowadays i can log into a 3 year old ID and it still exists... Anyone shares that feeling?

No the way it works is, if the account is availible and you make it, the you must be logged in for 2 hours in a 48 hour period. If you want to keep it from expiring, then you must log in once every three months. BUT, say your ID was something silly like asdftacos3957278. If the account is not remade, and you log into it outside of that 3 month period, its still yours, then after that log in, the process repeats itself with once every 3 months.

ok heres what it is: if you have had an acct for a long time and it has a lot of games on it, it becomes permanent and wont get deleted. If it is just a shitty acct that hasn't been used for a longtime, it will get deleted in the 3months.

This does seem to be kind of how it works. Though there are no permanent accounts. Seems more like they just take longer to expire.

Yeah I have one really old account with the {} brackets and nearly 2000 games. I didn't touch Starcraft for like six-seven months yet it was still there.

I thought it was after 3 months you can recreate an account of the same name. If you have an account thats extremely old and hasn't been used for 3 months you can still log in to it unless someone else tried to recreate the account.. then it belongs to them.

This is just what I thought, nothing is for sure :p

EDIT: Because I had plenty of old accounts with over 2000 games (and some with pretty "1" ladder ratings =[ ) that were recreated by other people who wanted to fuck with me after 3 months.

Goto "create a new account" and it tells you all the rules for that. But I know it lasts longer than the 3 months that they claim. I have an account i haven't played on in about 2 years and I only log onto every 6 months or so to keep it active. One time that accounts stats got reset then like a week after I logged onto it my old stats came back.
