Hello there, my name is Markus and I'm a software developer (35) who is madly in love with StarCraft. As a result a few years ago I partnered up with my dear friend Toby and we created StarSense. A free Android App with no adds where you can make predictions on tournaments.
A month ago, after a 3 year break I decided it was time to bring the app back. I guess being stuck at home for almost a year now because of coronavirus gave me the motivation to do it.
After a month we got like ~50 active users back spread over BroodWar and Starcraft2 who made just a little over 2000 locked predictions compared to the all time total of about 32.000 spread over 140 tournaments.
So most likely this is the first time you read about StarSense but the app is nothing new and it has proven that it works.
In the last days I got into contact with some nice guys while watching Shinhan Tank Proleague Season 4 (It's already in the app!) who recommended me to make a post on TeamLiquid since I'll reach the BroodWar core scene here, the people who would be most interested in the app.
Why am I doing this?
I have absolutley no business model in place and don't plan on ever making any money with the app. I'm simply feeling happy when I see that people use the app and make their predictions right after I put a new tournament into it. Basically I just do what I do because it makes me happy. If you wonder why you need a Google or Facebook account to use the app, it makes it simple for me to track your predictions.
If you got interested now let me tell you what you can expect:
- Select between only Broodwar content, only Starcraft 2 content or both.
- Get notifications when a tournament is first available in the app
- Get notifications when a tournament is about to start one hour in advance.
- Predict the outcome of torunament events including various group-stages and playoffs.
- Gain experience points by making correct predictions which translate to rank titles that can be compared with other users on the leaderboards
- Leaderboards for seasons (A season is a timeframe that includes various tournaments) where you can compare your StarSense to other users.
- Win prizes by making it to the top of the leaderboard. Currently the prizes are SC2 related but if the BroodWar userbase picks up I'll consider separate prizes for BroodWar most likely merchandise.
- Last but not least if anyone is interested I provide a simple API to read prediction data from the apps database so you can for example show it on stream. Back then we worked with some streamers who integrated it.
