To me, BW is not just a game, it's a sport. Just like football - I don't have to play it to enjoy watching it. I can sit on my couch, drinking Carling, watching the game, and I can do that with BW - more then that, I can go to YT or watch a stream any time I like.
Football isn't only popular because its a good game. I hate playing football myself, I was never any good and didn't want to improve. Football is popular because it's everywhere - you learn it at primary and high school, involuntarily. Because its a sport you grew up with, you go on and watch it in the pub, when you are out with your mates, or with your dad or son.
A lot of the popularity has to be attributed to the game, of course, but a lot of it has to do with football just "being there". The same way in US they have their football/rugby, and EU has soccer/football. Different sports being popular, for no apparent reasons.
I say lets wait another 5-15 years, for our kids to grow up a bit more, and introduce them to BW. Get them to play the game with their friends. Explain the game to them, coach them, watch a high level game from your favourite player in his prime. Make BW immortal but branding it not an eSport, but a Sport, and pass it to new generation.
