Seeing the rumors that KT & SKT disband their SCII teams. The logic outcome is that many pros will retire and many other will come back to BroodWar/Afreeca to make a living. Especially most of the old pros that are still playing SCII and came from BW. You think we can have a new BW era with new stars rising and lots of adult players?

its not as bad today as it was a couple of years ago I'll tell you that, I mean we have proper offline tournaments and high profile players, but even then the way it is now a lot of stars have to align for a true revival to happen.

As far as new blood goes I'm sure someone more qualified and knows the fish ladder scene better than I do could explain the situation.

BW is now the 4th most popular game in PCBangs. Is that any indication that people might be shifting their attention back to SC1?

The question is not what rank it is. It is how % it shares. LOL alone had about 43% and then comes other games and BW had like 3%. It is more logical to create an overwatch team house than BW. I do hope to see KT / SKT... etc all shift back to BW, but lets be realistic. This is not a reverse of 2012 switch. This one is a disband not game change while have players to practice the "new" game.

The switch to SC2 was "mandatory", to a certain extent. Here the circumstances would be different, perhaps pushed by popular demand.

I can't find the %, can't speak Korean well enough yet :S

Popular demand: Back to square one. Which has more popular demand? The Rank 1 game on PC Bangs OW? Or BW?

As much as I would love that, I don't see it happening.
SC2 was a fatal blow to BW.
You don't come back from fatal blows. That's why they're fatal.

BW is getting patched up to lessen the pain though, and we're getting more and more bandaids with every month, so yay.

BW revival for you is having 8 teams with proleague etc ? no gonna happen.BW revival with more bw streamers on afreeca and more offline tourneys ? it is a realistic option. even a good online teamleague is possible

At least in Poland we see an increased activity over last year, meaning both old players coming back and few new players.

I hope that StarCraft will comeback with a team league, although It isn't necessary but the teams league will connect professional players better than not teams.

I played some BW this last weekend just for fun and I haven't played it in years... It still rocks as it used to!! Would be very exciting to see more pros going back to it.

Do your part and get involved in the community, play some Brood War, and a revival of sorts will come. We've seen more and more players recently, and it's looking good.

Brood war is a fun game

On a pro level, i don't think there will be a new era of bw. The community is small.
But the advantage is that brood war, just like quake, games like that aren't being made anymore, they have no replacement. Which is the fate that awaits sc2, LoL and overwatch.

While it would be nice, it's not likely. At least not at a foreigner level. The average skill level for foreigners has been pretty low for quite some time. There are only a handful of 'true' A rank players that still play.

The truth is that OW and LoL dominate korea atm, so if anything we might see OW getting hugely popular as an esports (which i still don't see because it's boring as fuck to watch, but hey who knows)
