It'll be awesome if this can get a good player base going.

Few things I don't understand. Is this a server only, as the OP states? But then how would that solve client things like scaling and OS compatibility? Or is it a client? In which case I'm wondering how Blizzard fits into this, IP and all. Anyways, curious to know how the beta works out!

This has the potential to jolt the BW scene back to life in a big way, imagine this bringing BW back into the esports mainstream. Amazing stuff, I will totally be playing BW again as a result of this.

Its less expensive than most people expect, and relative to my cost of living, its a pretty small part of my monthly expenses. So, it's totally fine for the foreseeable future. 2)is there an effective antihack for this server. one reason why people play Fish server is because its antihack is definitely effective against the vast majority of hacks and it is constantly updated, despite the fact that it comes with adware. We don't currently have an antihack, but its planned for down the road. I don't really believe hacking is one of the larger detriments to Brood War at this point in time (the vast majority (all?) of the major hack developers have stopped working on the game). Our approach is also naturally more resilient to such things as we can do a better job of fixing bugs that mineral hacks, drop hacks, etc. make use of. Still, an anti-hack is planned, its just not in the list of high priority things to get perfect. 3) will there be more options for the matchmaking system (racepicking, 2v2 3v3 hunters fastest etc.) i imagine matchmaking for hunters/fastest would be pretty big as well, solo queuing will now be possible.. We've gone back and forth on allowing racepicking a number of times, I don't think we truly have a final answer there. But we do want to be able to support ladders and matchmaking beyond a simple 1v1 "standard" maps setup. To some extent whether matchmaking is worthwhile for these things depends on the population we attract for them, but our system is flexible enough to accomodate these sorts of things. 4) i think more korean publicity is needed. Fish server has around 10k-15k population during peak hours, in comparison iccup only has around few hundred at most. and unless you intend this to be another foreigner server... Agreed and planned, but we'd like to provide a better experience for Koreans before we actively seek out players there (i.e. we'd like to have the software fully translated into Korean and have a good chat experience for a server that has players speaking many different languages). On May 13 2016 09:36 9heart wrote: isnt playing at resolutions other than 640x480 considered an unfair advantage/hacks and generally frowned upon? i know for a fact its not allowed in fishladder or iccup tournaments Our windowed mode does scaling, it doesn't change how much of the map is visible. It's akin to W-Mode's 2x mode, but unlike that, we can scale to any resolution and do it fully GPU-accelerated (which both makes it much more performant *and* allows for doing a higher quality scale). It's on the table, and something that we've thought about. It's a contentious thing here (whether or not its cheating, etc.), but I mostly don't buy the arguments against it. Different language versions of BW have different hotkeys (some of them very nonsensical), so I find it a bit hard to believe we'd force people to play with worse hotkeys just because they speak a particular language. I also don't think it really significantly affects gameplay difficulty (although this argument can easily be a slipper slope to bad decisions ![]() Thanks for all the support guys! I'm very happy to have this out there, looking forward to getting you all on the server in the coming days ![]() ![]()

Is this completely melee focused or will UMS be welcome/supported as well? To your knowledge are any of the changes you are making going to compromise anything used in UMS mapping?

The owners of Fish as well as the staff, admins, officers, and operators. Something the foreigners don't have to experience is how childish most high ranking members of the server are. The majority of them are quite rude and use being unpaid as an excuse to fuel fires.

Ask Scan or something, there's nothing more to be said. I simply advise that this server obtains some kind of DDoS protection service, such as CloudFare.

They don't really want foreigners on fish, even got SMS verification but they will attack the servers we make for ourselves? For what? Thats really some high level bs if they decide to do so.

They don't care. Nice server, shit staff. If ShieldBattery starts draining Fish they'll consider the server a threat and attack it, through DDoS or other means. This can easily be avoided through basic DDoS protection services and a regularly scheduled flush.
