Back then we didn't have all-in-one modem + WiFi routers. All we had was a modem, so there was not NAT/router security involved.

Going off that time frame you can assume that the development time to get it ready for an 'open' beta is going to be a pretty long way away You do realize the amount of work that it's taken both tec and 2pac to get it to this stage right? That's on top of their jobs and other commitments so three years and a half isn't that long when you factor all that stuff. Also, the fact that it is now public knowledge and is in closed beta already alludes to the stage it's currently in.

They should just roll with it, nothing bad can't happen, maybe they are scared of hackers but you should be scared of that all the time and be on your guard. They took information when you signed up for the beta, right? That wasn't just so they could sell it to Google.

Is it nowadays political incorrect to make a calm post to not overhype things and make a reasonable time estimation without praising the work that has been done already or what is the point of those responses? On May 17 2016 05:53 tec27 wrote: We don't have a set timeline. The goal of the closed beta is to test things in a more controlled fashion. Until we're certain that failures are incredibly rare, we want to ensure we can have a close relationship and tight feedback loop with all of our testers. We also want people that won't run away from the site and never come back if they encounter a bug ![]() So, once we feel pretty good about the state of things and feel like we don't need that tight feedback loop any more, we'll open things up to anyone who wants to sign up. I would estimate this is in the range of ~months, but I'm not promising any particular dates. This is, after all, a side project for me; I have a full time job that has to come first. tec himself wrote it will be months before the next step and I would consider that a long time.

To clarify, I said months before the site would be completely open to whoever wanted to sign up. That's not "the next step". The next step is to continue inviting new groups of people gradually, which we'll continue doing all the way up to that point.

- current number of people opted in (but not invited) to the closed beta - current number of people invited - strongest current player (from iccup/fish rank, I guess) ![]() - (which position I'm in T_T)

You've seemingly misread my entire post. Things like this happen all the time a new product is announced with a "soon" type release date to which people get hyped. The product then doesn't come out for a good amount of time after the inital hype thus people are disappointed, forget about it and no longer care. I merely mentioned that the majority of us should just back burner this announcement for a while as there is nothing that they can do but wait.

I could've potentially misread your point but it's also likely because I'm following the production cycle and have seen the work and motivation first hand that I disagreed with your post. Anyways, best to leave it with what tec wrote since it's his and 2pac's project: On May 18 2016 03:48 tec27 wrote: To clarify, I said months before the site would be completely open to whoever wanted to sign up.
