▶처음보다 게임에 대한 생각을 많이 하다보니 전략이 많이 생각났습니다. 그렇게 전략을 사용하다 보니 전략을 많이 쓰게 됐어요.
-When you, player Shin Hwe Sung first started, you weren’t strategically oriented, but is there a reason you’ve become strategically oriented recently?
*In comparison to when I first started out, I have been thinking a great deal more about strategies and thus, I’ve been using more strategies.
-본인에게 붙여진 전략가라는 별명에 대해서는 어떻게 생각하세요.
▶그 별명이 마음에 들어요. 하지만 너무 그 말에 집착하다보니 연습할 때나 내부리그 할때도 전략만 써서 형들이 싫어해요(웃음).
-What do you think of the saying about the power attached to a player’s nickname?
*(I struggled with this one, so I may have interpreted it wrong. Also, look at SuperJongMan's interpretation in the comments; he's probably more accurate than I am.)
I favor this saying. But sometimes, during practice, I leave the nickname and focus only on strategy, which the hyungs (elder brothers, but not literally) dislike.
-'포스트 임요환'으로 주목을 받고 있는데 그러한 관심이 부담되지는 않았나요.
▶부담은 많이 됩니다. 임요환 선수의 명성에 먹칠하지 않도록 열심히 노력하고 있습니다.
-People are accusing you of being a ‘post-Lim Yo Hwan’, so aren’t you burdened by this point?
*I am burdened a lot by this. In order not to become a shadow imitation of Lim Yo Hwan, I am practicing hard.
-'전략가'나 '포스트 임요환'이라는 별명 때문에 전략을 고집한 건 아닌가요.
▶꼭 그런건 아닙니다(웃음). 정석에 자신이 약간 없기도 하고 전략을 쓰는게 기분이 좋아요.
-Because people are calling you ‘the strategist’ and ‘post-Lim Yo Hwan’, can it be that you are taking interest and sticking more to strategy?
*That is not necessarily the case (laughs). I am still lacking a bit of confidence within me, but I feel good formulating my own strategies.

▶지명권이 생긴 뒤 많이 고민해 봤는데 제가 존경하는 선수와 맞붙고 싶었습니다. 그래서 이윤열 선수를 지명했습니다.
-In the Shinhan Starleague 2006 Season 3 Round of 16, is there a particular reason why you chose Lee Yoon Yeoul?
*I have thought hard about my decision, and I wanted to face off against a player whom I admired. This is why I chose Lee Yoon Yeoul.
-이윤열 선수에게 1대2로 아쉽게 패했는데 패한 뒤에 어떤 생각이 들었나요.
▶'역시 내가 존경하는 선수답다'고 생각했어요(웃음).
-As you know, you lost to Lee Yoon Yeoul 1 to 2; what thoughts came to your mind after your loss?
*’Indeed, I am akin to an admirable player’ came to mind (laughs).
-이윤열 선수와 같은 길드로 알고 있는데 따로 친분이 있나요?
▶그건 아니고 배넷에서 인사 정도만 합니다.
-I know that you and Lee Yoon Yeoul are in the same guild, but do you know each other differently outside of the guild?
*Not quite, we are at the greetings level on Battle.Net.
-신희종 선수하고 형제로 알고 있는데 형이 신희승 선수를 부러워할 것 같습니다.
▶네. 많이 질투도 하고 제가 경기할 때 응원도 많이 해줍니다(웃음).
-I know that you and player Shin Hwe Jong are brothers, but I think your hyung (elder brother, literally this time) will be envious of you.
*Yes. We bash heads a lot and when I’m competing, he cheers me on(laughs).
-르까프의 이제동 선수와 학창시절 많이 스타 경쟁을 했다고 하던데, 누가 많이 이겼어요?
▶제동이가 많이 이겼어요. 작은 대회에서도 2번 정도 졌구요. 제동이가 저보다 더 잘해서 제가 자극받아요(웃음).
-They say you played star plentifully with Lecaf player Lee Jae Dong, so who won more?
*Jaedong won a lot. I even lost about twice in small stage games. Since Jaedong plays better than I, I get an incentive (laughs).
-야구선수 오승환 선수와 닮았다고 해서 '돌부처테란' '오승환테란' 등의 별명이 있는데 마음에 드세요?
▶별명은 다 마음에 들어요. 관심이다보니(웃음). 나중에 저도 더 성장해서 최연성 선수처럼 '괴물 테란' 같은 별명을 듣고 싶어요.
-There is speculation that you look like the baseball player Oh Seung Hwan, so people call you ‘the rock terran’ or ‘Oh Seung Hwan terran’; do you find this favorable?
*I favor all these speculations. It means I get attention (laughs). I aspire to hear a nickname akin to me like Choi Yeon Sung’s ‘monster terran’.

-방송 첫 데뷔전 상대가 '본좌' 마재윤 선수였는데 그 당시 이야기를 좀 해 주세요.
▶그 당시 맵이 815였는데 제가 프로토스 위주로 연습을 했어요. 그런데 막상 저그가 나와서 당황했어요. 거기다 상대가 마재윤 선수라서 특히 더 그랬어요. 당시에 긴장하지 않으려고 껌을 씹고 게임을 했는데 껌만 씹으면 습관적으로 풍선을 불다 보니 그 때도 풍선을 불고 말았어요. 그래서 그 경기 이후에는 껌을 씹지 않아요(웃음).
Your first televised match was against "bonjwa" Ma JaeYoon. Tell us about that time.
At that time the map was 815, and I was practicing for vsP. But then a zerg came out so I was a bit flustered. And to add to that the opponent was Ma JaeYoon. At the time to calm my nerves I decided to chew gum, but due to habit I started to blow bubbles. So ever since that match I don't chew gum anymore (laughs)
-전략은 신희승 선수 자신이 생각해서 만드나요 아니면 김현진 코치님이 짜주시나요.
▶현진이형의 아이디어를 받아서 테란 유저들끼리 밤에 얘기하면서 짭니다.
Do you create your own strategies, or does Coach Kim HyunJin create them.
I get the ideas from HyunJin hyung, and then the Terran users talk at night time actually creating them.
-김현진 코치와 10경기를 맞붙으면 결과가 어떤가요.
▶헉, 해본 적은 없어요. 다 이길 자신은 없고요(웃음). 그래도 1, 2판은 질 것 같습니다.
If you played Coach Kim HyunJin 10 matches, what would be the outcome?
Huk, I've never done that. I don't have the confidence to win every single match (laughs). However, I think I will lose 1 or 2 games.
-신희승 선수가 생각하는 프로게이머의 매력은?
▶경기장에서 경기할 때 매력이 넘치는 것 같아요. 팀원들과 숙소생활이 정말 재밌어요. 팀원 형들 중에 개그맨이 많아서(웃음).
What do you think is charming about progamers?
I think their charm is overflowing when they are playing in a match at the arena. Dorm life with my teammates is very fun. A lot of the hyungs in the team are comedians (laughs)
-팀원들 중에서 누가 가장 재미있나요? 또 누가 가장 잘해주나요?
▶처음 팀에 들어왔을 때는 용성이형이 엄청 재미있게 해줬어요. 춤도 추고(웃음). 요새는 덕인이형의 개그가 가장 재밌어요. 잘해주는 사람은 옆에 앉아있는 최욱명 선수가(웃음). 모두 다 잘해줍니다.
Who is the most fun in the team? Also, who treats you the best?
When I first entered the team, YongSung hyung was very fun. He even danced (laugh). Recently, DukIn hyung's gags are the funniest. Choi WookMyung who is sitting right now to me treats me well (laugh). Everyone treats me well.
-팀원들이 자랑스럽고 뿌듯할때가 있나요.
▶저희팀이 선수가 작다보니 형들이 프로리그에서 매번 뛰었어요. 한번 준비하기도 힘든데 매번 나가서 잘해줄 때가 정말 자랑스러웠어요.
Are there times when you are proud of your teammates?
Since our team doesn't have many members, the hyungs have multiple showings in Proleague. It's hard to prepare for even one match, but when they go out and show good results each time I am proud of them.
-경기에서 어떻게 졌을 때 가장 분한가요?
▶제가 이길수 있는 게임을 졌을 때 분합니다. 이윤열 선수와 3경기에서도 침착했다면 이길수 있었는데..그럴때 정말 분합니다.
When are you most vexed when you lose a match?
When I lose a match I could have won I am vexed. In the 3rd match vs Lee YoonYeol, if I had been more calm I could have won... times like that are when I am most annoyed.
-만약 1억 연봉을 약속한 팀이 있다면 이적할 생각은 있나요?
▶아직까지는 돈을 잘 몰라서 그런지 이스트로에 남고 싶어요. 프로게이머로 되게 해 주셨고 이렇게 제가 성장할 수 있게 해 준 팀이라서요. 감독님, 코치형, 팀원형들, 동생들도 정들어서 더 그런 것 같아요.
If a team offered you $100,000 annual salary would you consider moving?
I still don't know much about money, so I want to stay with eStro. They let me become a progamer, and allowed me to advanced this far. I have become affectionate(not the best word here) for the coaches and team members, so I think that's why.
-팀내 워크래프트3의 김동문 선수가 있는데, 어느 정도로 친하게 지내나요?
▶같이 게임하면서 내기도 합니다. 동문이형이 스타에 관심이 많아서 스타 얘기도 자주 해요(웃음).
You have WC3 player Kim DongMoon on your team, how close are you two?
We bet on games when we play together. DongMoon hyung is very interested in Starcraft, so we talk about it a lot (laughs)
-같은 팀원들이 젠가 CF에 출연했는데 그 CF를 본 소감이 어땠나요.
▶소름이 돋았어요(웃음). 정말 웃겨서 아직도 놀리고 있습니다(웃음).
Your team members shot a Jenga commercial. Tell us your feelings when you first saw it.
I got goosebumps (laughs). It was so funny that I still make fun of them (laughs).
-신희승 선수의 2007년 목표가 어떻게 되는지 알고 싶네요. 팬들에게 한 말씀도 해 주시죠.
▶2007년에는 저희팀 프로리그 순위를 올리고 싶어요. 2006년에 제가 보탬이 안됐지만 이제부터는 보탬이 될 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠습니다. 앞으로 더욱더 성장한 모습을 보여드릴테니 지켜봐 주세요.
