Ladder system running would be the best option hehe

Yeah, if it had no ladder everyone will just use OP TL-West instead. Unless everyone suddenly had no cd-keys :D

wouldn't a dedicated server for tl make the lag less compared to op tl-west?

Well, hamachi works better for that purpose though it lacks a chat.

Using op tl-west on west server allows these various time killing pursuits: 3v3 bgh vs pubs, 4v4 bgh vs pubs, 2v2 luna vs pubs, etc. The issue I see with a TL only server is that it reduces an already reduced western starcraft playing populace. I think. I hope we're not discouraging you with these "oh noes we wants a ladderz" comments.
I want to start a ladder, its just that i'm not sure what is involved - if someone can tell me what sort of setup is necessary, then that would be great.

I set up a pvpgn server at my highscool:D
I only used the standard bnet-ranking though, but modified the scripting at some parts; like getting fastest ladder speed (it's the standard nowadays); and I got some other Icons. Don't remember too much though, but there was some awesome community who spend all their time setting up and modding sc and wc pvpgn servers. Don't remember their names though T_T. Google
edit: and yes I would definately join it; having a TL-only ranking and gaming-platform would be awesome. IMO it should be TL-only though. Like having 100-TLposts limit to set up acc

ok i'll check that out -- so if a ladder was setup would people on TL be interested in using it, or are people already satisfied with playing on brainclan, fish servers op tl-west or hamachi

it probably requires 1) launcher 2) "hooking" into broodwar via this launcher to detect wins and losses 3) laucher communicates with server database to update win/loss as well as points, etc.
actually i guess the launcher isnt required? Just detect all "one on one" games played on the server and update based on that, having specified that "one on one" game mode is the mode for ladder games and all games will be counted towards your record when used.

I would play it if it had ladder :D

You don't need a launcher; Guess it's good for anti-hack but what the hell, if only TL were there, say like 50 guys use it, if someone hacked he would be spotted fast and get banned.
When I had it at school we were like 10 players using it; great fun, also it was quite easy to connect it to mysql and have my webpage calculate stuff; drawing diagrams and such.
I would really say it's better/funnier then hamachi/standard bnet. All players stats are pure TL and so on...

If you want help with coding i bet the guys at bwprogramming can direct you, even give you a hand. I don't know much about it, but good luck with it! =)
Also, i think it would be cool if the staff manage to set up a server here, even if it is simple and based on good will. It'll really enhace the community experience here.

I think limiting it to people over 100 posts would be a mistake. I think it would be best to avoid making tl.net more good-old-boy than it already is. If you put the energy into making a ladder, why make it irrelevant by capping it only to tl.net regulars?
Also, skip the launcher, but write somewhere that PP is standard practice, so people can still use that most of the time. It won't be mandatory, so there's no regulation involved, but if you're just playing people you don't know, you can most of the time find games where the other person has BWL.
edit: Also, if it got off the ground substantially I bet someone could talk the BWProgammers guys to add us to BWL somehow.

himurakenshin: We already have a ladder that could be used: The Anywhere Ladder. This (or a special subdivision of it) could be set up to be dedicated to the "TL.net" server, or it could be left open to all servers and just be "required" for this server. Talk to fonger if you're interested - he's already written a launcher for it that records the game results. At any rate, I like it because the ELO system is so much better than the perpetually-reset rank-based system that most ladders use.
However...

this is an awesome idea
would be cool if it was limited to tl though, and people could see your tl ladder ranking ;D
make a poll is my guess if you want to see how many people would play
i will though

the absolute BIGGEST advantage of this, would be that all the games in the public games section woudl guarantee some semblance of manner and skill.

it's weird to see all those ladder trying to building up. If everyone would work together and use a launcher we'd have a new PGT :-( anyway GOGOGO

TL-only ladder or no ladder either would be good.
