I remember articles saying 120 000, 150 000 even 200 000 people attended the proleague finals.

Does anybody have any idea what the number of people expected to attend the next Proleague final between CJ and MBC?

Many thanks.

haha this is like a question for the executives marketing department of MBC. Don't think I could answer that...

Look at that famous Proleague finals between KTF and SKT1 couple of years back in Pusan, on the beach. I think a fairly optimistic estimate was 20.000 people, and even such a relatively small number looked like a damn huge crowd. Though watching finals and knowing there's a huge 100.000 crowd in there, cheering, would be a revelation in itself, I don't think such a number is a reasonable expectation. Besides, where are the finals being held anyway?

"Over 140 professional game tournaments have been held with a combined prize money of more than 5 billion won. Some 200,000 people gathered in Chamsil Baseball Stadium to see one of the final matches last year. And with the growing success and popularity of these tournaments, more large companies are sponsoring game leagues or pro-gaming teams and more youngsters dream of becoming a pro gamer when they grow up."

they said that the crowd there was estimated 100-130,000 people, according to uzoo and eforce

probably the real number was less, but i doubt it's as low as 20,000, where did you get that number from? source?

100-130.000? I have been living a lie. Though that might be counting in the total number of visitors in the broader area, I don't think I've seen more than approximately 15.000 seats in the VODs.

That's one of the pictures I was using as an argument, no way is that anywhere near 100.000 people, even when packed at gametime.

the finals in pusan was literally on the beach, so they probably included the pple sitting around on the sand, walking by in the nearby city just catching a glimpse ofit, or just stopping by for 10 mins then going on abou ttheir business as well.

the 20,000 count comes from estimating how many seats were in one "block" of the crowd section, then multiplying by the number of chair "blocks"

I would defiantely say 100k.

Put it this way, 1k kids fit into the tiny gym at my school. Each of those blocks of people looks about the same size. Count the blocks, -20% for gaps, and you still have over 100k.

I'd say it's about 50K.
I don't think using pics of stadiums is a good idea because the way they're designed makes it looks much more crowded since you can see most ppl in a shorter distance.
Here is a pic of a demonstration with 100,000 ppl.

In the daytime picture, the blocks of people are about 12x32, with 10 full blocks. Including the others hanging around the edges, I'd say there's no more than 5000 people there. That's still a lot for a game tournament :p.

edit: in the nighttime picture there are at least 17 blocks, giving at least 6500 people.

While 20,000 is somewhat possible (especially for the one held in a stadium), estimates of 100k or higher are probably either a result of miscommunication or deliberate propaganda/marketing. It doesn't really matter though, even just getting thousands of spectators is a hell of a lot for a merely 10 year old game that doesn't lose much, if anything, when watched on TV when compared to normal sports (after all, at a live SC game you're basically just watching the TV broadcast on a huge screen anyway).

20 000 and a 130 000 has a large gap... a really huge large gap.

Wouldn't it be absolutely idiotic of the marketer to inflate the number x5 times more than it is?
Such deliberate fix would most likely be denounced as "unlikely" by these reputable source (the article says 200 000.. Would be quite idiotic to inflate the number x10 or x30 times than it was).

I have no idea what the real number is but it seems more than 20 000 from my view. The "Bell Center" here in Montreal has a capacity of 21 000 people (which I went to a few times) and the arena itself is not all that big. (In fact, it looks just slighter bigger than the NaDa vs Anytime OSL final)

well, there were an estimated 1 million people at the new year thing in time square, it is very easy to pack a lot of people in a small area if they just stand or are seated closely.

i counted similar, and estimate max 4000 seated there. Maybe it could rise to 5000 with standing people or something (being quite generous)

Alright, let me have a look-see.

You've got 12 parcels of 30 rows (counted them) and 25 people per row (I'm being generous here). That's 12x30x25=9000. Bystanders are another few thousand, let's say (again, being very generous). That adds up to about 12 thousand.

If I'm not mistaken, this is the same location, same number of parcels, right?

This is certanly not a 100k crowd, but much, much lower than that.

Edit: I see others beat me to it

lovely how people are like " i guess there's 50000, or "it looks like 100.000" instead of just counting the rows (or even easier, reading the posts of people that already did their work for them) and realize that there are AT MOST 20.000 people on that night time picture and 10.000 on the daytime one.

If it is therefore approx 10 000, how would they be able to inflate it to 100 000?
90 000 is quite a significant difference.
