heh the thread "celebrating 8 years of balanced gameplay" refreshed my memories such as my first ever sc game and my first bnet game

the first 2 sc bnet games i played, the map was LT. i had only 12 scvs the entire game and didnt expo at all, by the time i had a army of marines/firebats/vults/tanks numbering less than 15, i was attacked by mass goons and mass zlots, he let me go after he owned half of my base(i didnt even know u could quit a game that time), he returned to my base with 12 carriers T_T. so i thought to myself, protoss are cool so the next game, i chose protoss and by the time i had 15 zlots, 10 goons, and 12 probes, i got owned by mass goons+reavs T_T

post ur stories of ur first bnet games =)

i remember it was some version of fastest. This was in late 98. I was terran and he was toss, and i remember having like 12 rines, 8 wraiths, and 2 tanks. I send a rine to his base and see 10 gateways pumping goons and im like " holy shit he is good."

So yea, i learned to macro shortly after with many a BGH game^_^

It was a 2v2 on some blizzard map. I was protoss, made quite a bit of zealots and actually did fundamentally okay for my first b.net game ever...but we still lost.
Even though this Proleague bullshit has been completely bogus, I really, really, really do not see how Khan can lose this. I swear I will kill myself if they do. - nesix before KHAN lost to eNature

First Game:
3v1 computer on Bloodbath for fast 2 minute melee wins.

First One v One:
Random guy in a public channel. I begged him to allow me to win for free ladder points.
We worked out an arrangement where he made a smurf account, I rushed him 20 times in 2min, then I returned the favor. I was mortified when Blizzard erased my statistics.

Hehe. My very first game was in a LAN-game against a friend of mine and I played terran against protoss and I hadn't even played the campaign yet, while he already had completed it (got SC like a week or two before me when it was released.) I only went marines and macroed like a whore and was almost able to run him over even though he had reavers. I was leading after the early game and was close to winning but reavers for my opponent turned the tide (I didn't know the tech tree and had to learn production hotkeys as I played :D). I got tanks too late to get back into the game so... I guess I learned that tech units were more powerful than in WC2 the hard way so to speak. This was on plains of snow or whatever it was called. The SC version map of one we used to play in school 4v4 at WC2.

I don't remember my very first SC-game on the internet, but it must have been like a month later. I played very much with a macro-approach so I probably just ran over my opponent with zealots and goons. (played WC and WC2 before that, but only on LAN in school.)
I wouldn´t call him stupid, but let´s just say he´s unlucky when thinking...

3v3 with some random pubbies on bgh hunters. We all picked protoss, and basically just destroyed everything with mass zeal-only raids. We continued to laugh at our victims re our games and have fun, until we met some guy who actually decided to pick terran vs 3 protosses and we were like "lol you noob protoss > terran eZ". Long story short, we got our asses owned 1v3 by vultures/tanks/nukes -_-. Think I still have that replay hanging around somewhere in my collection too

I believe my friend and I were playing FFA Bloodbath games on west on 56k modem -___-;;

I was so afraid of clicking that "Ladder" button, i never ever played a single ladder game... this was not even BW, but SC on its first patch or w/e.

come to think of it, i still havent played a ladder game on original bnet lol

it was a 1v1 on a fastest map, and i was first learning the game, learning the shortcut keys,builds armies and he massed carriers and attacked me, at first i saw them i was like WTF ARE THOSE BIG SHIPS? WTF LITTLE SHIPS ARE COMING OUT OF THE BIG SHIPS AND ATTACKING ME...i then thought protoss was the strongest race but later realised how balanced the game is and played terran huk;;

Back then I didn't even know that I was supposed to make extra workers in order to increase the rate of the income. So by the time my opponent was getting a group of BattleCruiers, all I had was a bunker and a marine. GG..

First B.net would've been a 2v2 comps on some random blizzard map, chosen by the leader of the clan I had just joined. I was Protoss and built cannons and had a single zealot when my main was destroyed. I made a pylon in his base and proceeded to be amazed as he used M&M to win against them both.

First against other people was a 2v2 in that same clan. I was Terran, and "rushed" (Wasn't exactly that fast then) to tank drops. Main was destroyed, but I had a ton of resources still left. I lifted off and hid my building until the nasty lings went away, then rebuilt. I actually ended up winning my team the game, and upon seeing the replay, was dubbed the "surviving hero".

First one on one was on a random blizzard map against the same clan leader, about half a year later. I won by dropping tanks on the cliff (which had no ramps going up to it) directly behind his main mineral line, and then lifting off all of my buildings when he attacked with his five zealots. I did not understand the extreme imbalance in this and thought I'd accomplished something!

Needless to say, the entire clan was not skilled in general, but we were all good friends and had fun, which I think is more important.
Think. :)

My first game was at my friends house when SC JUST came out, literally 2-3 days afterwards. I remember thinking zerg were so weird because they looked like pulsating brains when their buildings built. I don't really remember the game itself though.

First EVER game on starcraft original, I remembered I was zerg(cuz I can't speak english then and didn't know I should finish the terran campaign first... anyways I remembered I thought overlords can actually attack and tried to killl his wraith w/ it, it was reallyfun. And since I can't read english I didn't know I'm suppose to make more overlords :D
First 1v1 was against ZidaneTribal, this was what, 5 years later I think... it was 1v1 on a super small map, 3 kingdoms, I still remember the tag of that map: Once upon a time there were 3 kingdoms, may there be one.
Anyways I was protoss and he was zerg, He expanded twice and I didn't expand at all, made 1 carrier but his hydras shot down all my interceptors. It was GG from there and he plaged all my stuff and i thought wow that was kewl!
Then the next game he was terran, I was still protoss, he attacked with 3 tanks and I tried to maelstrom his tanks and he laughed hysterically and I lost T_T

was fun though!
I happy, thus I run.

TvT on bgh. i was at 12, he was at 8. we blocked our entrances with supply depots. i had 25-30 scvs, building BC from two starports. after one whole hour, i got 12 wraiths and 12 BC, and launched the fleet. he spent more money into bunker and turrets. so i outnumbered his air 2:1 and i owned. woo hoo! oh man 1-0-0 record and i had a star next to my name. A STAR! omg what a great gg
Nemesis has left the building~

A real life friend talked me into buying SC three days after he brought it.. Our first game was TvT on Challenger (weird north/south map with two center island expos). We had about 2 days practice under our belts.

Neither of us attacked the first 30 minutes at least.. Ironically enough, we both went one base mass battle cruiser and had a HUGE air battle in the center of the map. No expos, one starport apiece, just 10-15 scv's, a bunch of cruisers and the instuction booklet sitting open on my desk.

I still have the replay.. And BWChart shows my NaDa-like 16apm for the 45 minute game ><

I feel sad, not able to remember my first ever game...

But sdG)Sakura-JAP converted me to a hardcore Terran player by showing me the magic of Boxer. He proceeded to drill integrity into my games (absolutely no maphacking allowed in the sacred melee games), and taught me everything I know about StarCraft. I feel that this was my true first game, as I was pretty much learning all over again.

"Learn the basics. Isn't that what you use every day?" - Gattsu (Berserk)

You can read my experiences with this great man here.

Nowadays, I don't often play StarCraft because the vast majority of my friends quit.
Instead, I try to pass on what I've learned and apply the same concepts to the other games we play.

Thus, I absolutely pwn at DotA, a wc3 map I've been on after high school with an extremely high win %. I've concluded that it's also the sole reason for wc3's existence/success/fun. I would not play WarCraft for it's melee; Have you ever seen a pro orc vs orc matchup? Very, very, VERY long and boring.

I wish everyone would get back to StarCraft again.
Guess I'll start the nagging and bring it up wherever and whenever.
I often do load up the micro & training maps and secretly practice to prevent my SC sense from becoming too dull.

Edit: My micro seems to be consistent @ 120 APM these days! w00t!
2nd Edit: I used to play zerg. Something about them just appeals to unskilled koreans I guess.
I was thinking about joining a debate club, but I was talked out of it.

Shareware june/july 1998 TvT (obviously) on the only map you could play - byway.
The guy used 3 pauses each for 2-3 minutes each time cos his girlfriend was over (or so he said).
I actually lost 3 bc's to cloaked ghosts which cost me the game at the end - i was like WTF hidden fire!

ha, i was pro right at the start, played lan zvp, and i 4 pooled
Obiviously i ran over. (even after searching for the base for quite a time.. it was LT and i had no idea where opponent could start)

Next game he said it is unfair, so i used somesort of 6hatchery 8pool and got raped by masses of zealots.

i have never really won anything unless you count the 4-6pool rushes.
I dont want to be totally out :3

My first LAN game was terran vs protoss on some 2 player map with a raised ground in the middle, I had played only the signle player missions for terrans and was masssing my favorite unit - tanks(I also counted my scvs and had exactly 2 scvs per mineral patch and 3 on the gas, funny times). He was massing goons and decided to attack the ramp leading to the raised middle ground, where I had all my tanks sieged, so in the end he lost every single goon and killed 2 tanks and I just unsieged and attack moved to his base. I felt really good and it was fun
I really can't remember my first bnet game, probably because I played a lot on lan before that and it wasn't as exiciting.
I'll call Nada.

Hahaha I'm sure all you guys are lying, when me and my friends got SC for the first time it was all about BCs vs Carriers. We used to have arguments during lunchtime about which would win. The only thing we all agreed upon was that Zerg was a crappy race.

My first 'multiplayer' game was modem to modem thing. I got schooled by my friend as i was teching to carriers while he went mass hydras and owned my ass.

Then I progressed to bgh on bnet, where i learnt the secret of extra fast lurker drop at their nexus/hatch/cc. I won about 50% of my games that way, it was kinda a 'do or die' thing haha. I actually got some newbies to think that i was gosu until they figured out my trick and stuck some cannons there. I had to go back to my carrier tactic after that =(.

My most fun experience in SC probably ever was early on when everyone in my group of friends were playing, and me and my school friends could get an 4v4 BGH games goin' withing our group. There was a lot of trash talking, laughing at my slowest friend (i swear, i had my 5th worker out before all his workers started mining) and my selfish friend, who went all defense all the time. Carrier wars, nukes, infested CC's, everything was fair game. It usually ended with the 2 koreans (who weren't allowed on the same teams) duking it out while we flew out CC's, probes or watever to annoy them. Ahhh good times. Everyone cept for me has grown out of SC now, playing online poker or WoW. Gayed.

Broodwar, game was on lost temple. I was protoss @ 6, and I start with forge cannon build. Opponent was zerg @ 12. He scouted my base, and I didn`t even know where he is for the whole game. He didn`t attack in a long time. I have been making carriers, I had 3+ of them and I thought to myself I am going to own this sucker. He attacked me with maybe 12 hidras (to see what am I doing), I beat them all. Then he gave me shared view and what I saw was *_*. He ate the whole map, and I could see infinite waves of hydras coming to my base. I could defend for a very shot time, and then he overran me.

It was on some map either challenger or rivalry. Pubby on east. It was against a game called Fothermucker.inc. I just went only marines whole game and spent 10 minutes looking for him. I attacked his base cause he just made hatcheries. MY FIRST VICTORY. After that i only used marines thinking we had some bond.

in my first game, a TvT on LT I scouted a wall-in and was like: whoa, why does this guy build his buildings up front? wtf, I can't get past them!?

then, some minutes later I was stomped. after that I downloaded some replays of better players and got my hands on that famous game on New No Way Out, I think it's Smuft vs NTT. After watching that I saw broodwar in a whole different light.

oh, that wasn't really my very first game. it was my first on bnet though and the first after 3 years.

my very first game was over a direct connection on Starcraft Shareware. Neither I nor my friend had an idea how the game worked. So after some skirmishes he went BC and I figured Goliaths would be a nice counter, so I just massed about 20 or so. I don't even remember who won that fight, I'd assume it was me though. anyway, after that we went back to C&C Red Alert.

..... mid of 1998, hosted a 2v1 comp stomp on blood bath, made the game, went mass valkyaries, then the other guy left the game. So then since I couldn't win, I left the game also.

It was in the 1.07 days on the FSGS server. 2v2 with 4z on Lost Temple. The other 3 guys were pretty decent, so they went ling then muta. I was so confused, I didn't understand why doesn't my ally build some static defense I remember m being at 3 and my ally at 6, and I build a bunch of sunkens until I extended the creep to my ramp. When I saw they are finishing my ally with mutas, I didn't understand why isn't he making hydras. I finished up with 5 hydras fightinh vs 20 mutas
In the end i was surprised how I had three times less points than the other three guys :D

But the good days came, with 1.08alpha leaked, on lurker.broodwar.com server. I think the level was pretty high there. My favourite sc site was scnation.com by then - from where i found a link to Tsunami's strategy site. I remember, there was a guy on that server with the nick "ThaWoofer!" or something like that, who played terran, and beat everyone. He had a decent knowledge of the game, using spider mines vs toss, and mmf vs zerg. I think he probably was a lot faster than most of us. Any idea who could he be?

hhmm back in anchient history Robin (me) got his first RTS-game and my answere was what is RTS.. never mind i started to play but I didn´t get anything were you suposed to attack only???
ofcourse the protoss were the race for me since they started with more combat units (ignored incoming messages like "Gather minerals to be able to construct more units!!"

later i discovered the build buttom and then my world was turned around. 6-8 years later of on/off gaming i played my first game on internet in a 3vs3 and got mean alot of zealots coming against my zerg base....
It has to start somewhere, It has to start sometime. What better place than here, what better time than now?

Hmm, my first game.. I can't remember if it was a) Me opening 1 gate forge on LT and getting raped or b) me + a friend playing 2:2 on bgh both toss, both mass zealot into carrier, winning
Both games on vanilla SC, no BW, in about 2001 :D

Played a ton of bgh -> fastest -> hunters before I had to quit as my cd broke down :/ Returned to play BW in mid 2002 and somehow I think I met up with some guy who I'd met while playing vanilla and whom since had been to korea and yeah, let's just say he opened my eyes :D

Ah, good times - playing nonstop public games (joined whatever said 1:1+korean name).. I was fortunate enough to somehow meet a 1400 gamei guy there, who taught me everything (ie make lots of gateways, do this do that).. Ah, and I had downloaded a bazillion replays from yaoyuan.. Probably had every PvZ that was on their site back then :D

Dunno what he's doing now, but he was a manga artist I remember, emailed me one of his comics.

Also saved pretty much every single game I played back then - but I lost them when I formatted the computer (forgot I had them there, my sister needed the comp so we formatted it and yeah :< Although as I recall I did save a lot of them before that, and put them somewhere ;p).

Then I met some 1500~1600 gamei guys who taught me even more, still know one of these guys, one of the other two are in the army and the 3rd I dunno.

Brood war was so cool back then -.-

It was a TvT on some random blizzard map I played vs my friend who had played a few games before I had. I built like 20 firebats and attacked his 6 or so tanks. It was kinda funny. That was my first game on Modem to Modem. Then my first games on bnet were probably 4 pools on bloodbath
..and then I would, ya know, check em'. (Aka SpoR)

Before b.net, I always played lan with friends. My friend who showed me the game told me to put one drone per mineral (yeah right...).

Then I came to b.net and joined a random game and it was a money map. You can imagine how I got raped >_< When I tried to attack one of the opponent (was a 2v2) I almost fell of my chair when I saw those 0384534820 gateways and all those units... then I though to myself: "ok, I got to learn the game more but wtf is this, it is not meant to be played that way..."

oh yeah, I remember it..it was me and a friend, our first time on bnet. I think we picked out the name drunkenretard or something insanely stupid. Don't know the map, but we started at 7, he started at 1. We ended up just building crap, and seeing what buildings needed what requirements, and I distinctly remember saying "Man, faster zealot speed? that's it? what a waste". I think we were mostly on defense, we had a few cannons here and there, and we eventually died to carriers, which made us "holy shit, what the hell are those" as they destroyed us. Dunno if I'll ever forget that game

It was a public game on LT. Version 1.11b. I was Terran, they were Protoss. 5 minutes in I lose to cannon rush

First game that I won was 5 or so months later ( that's a lot of losses). Lost Temple. Me Terran 9 O'Clock, Him Protoss 6 O'Clock. I saw him making 3 gate zealots so I did a vulture drop. Killed all his probes and mined his gateways.

Only had 2 wins since then One was against a zerg who was 21-1 on PGTour I did some kind of "slow" and extremely sloppy tank rush (if you can call it a rush), sieged outside his sunken line, killed them all with fairly little resistance. The other was an EXTREMELY close TvT. We were both down to a command centre and 1 or 2 other buildings, but he was silly and flew to the island leaving me the whole map.

I used to lan it in a friends basement along with the original GTA, where you had to wait 5 minutes for everyone to sync up and if you moved you had to restart it.

I was unstoppable amongst my friends, with my revolutionary concepts like building more than one barracks
when they really get to know you they will run

I was so excited, when I first entered b.net (I'd already done the campaigns, but always thought that only pros played on b.net). So I joined this 2v2 game, when some guy said:
"This game lags, all press alt + f4."
It took me about half a year to figure out, what the hell happened there^^

Also, me and my brother used to rock 1v1s on "The green Hunter" (blizzard money map I think) with out super-gosu mass hydras. I actually had much more fun playing sc back then, than I do now.

My first LAN game was against my brother on some weird map, i was terran and he was zerg i just thought bunkers were invincible so i built like 8 bunkers around my base, then i of course tried to tech to bcs thinking it will own him badaass but i didnt get my starport even built and he ownzord me with like 30 ultras... then i watched my brother play other games on bnet with zerg and it looked so cool so i started playing with them. my first bnet game was me against some rdm protoss on lt and i even expanded for the first time in my games cos my brother said zerg need loads of mins and gas but the time i moved out with my hydras he had like 20 archons and 10 carrriers or somtehing like that.

I started playing bw on an fsgs server. And from looking at replays I created an account called PlayGrrr... And I would have numerous ppl whispering me. "Grrr... is gay," "I own you," "Please play me," "I'm you're biggest fan." The works !!! It was hilarious. I played alot of them and when they noticed that I played Terran; they were like. Don't you play P. I always said, "i'm just practicing my terran." I got alot of games due to this smurf account, and won about 50%.Then I left that server to go to west on bnet, where I got owned by a four pool. I always wondered why everybody were having fun typing question marks, so I did the same hehehe ??? ???? ????

But before all of this, there were alot of Hunters games in the internet cafe 4 v 4 baby

One of those Square Korean Hunters with 50000 Minerals and 6 Geyers next to you.
I remember my cousin's friend or something telling me Pylon at choke, forge, 2 cannon, make gateways and dragoons with range. Upgrading is ok too.
I remember losing and really had no idea about anything...
All I remember was that's when I fell in love with the dragoon. It's a walkin cannon!

The first game i can remember was on a money map (fastest$$$$$$ or whatever) and i was zerg at 9 and it was a 2v2 or 3v3 or something but i didn't know how to ally or share vision, i didn't know who was on my team etc. I off-sunked an opponent but since i didn't ally my teammates my sunks killed them too so they unallied me, taunted me all game then the toss attacked with 5245625 goons. I'd made speedlings all game so i actually did alright cos lings rape goons, but obviously i held out for about 2 minutes before being brutalised cos i didn't have more than about 10 drones.

Good fun tho.

I remember when ZC first came out, i didn't get it, and i tried to play with ~6 probes all game thinking it was 1 infinite patch and not several stacked patches. I got a shock when i scouted an opponnet with like 20 hatches after ~5 mins. I had no idea where he got the money for that from, pretty dumb. I was a good player then too, I'd often win small tourneys but i'd not played $$$ maps for so long i had no idea you could stack minerals. hehe

I remember getting a gateway-choosing program (before you could choose manually) and choosing Exodus for the first time (Telia always before that, server splits ruined my life) and actually getting to play in a channel where other people played for once. The good times rolled on from then. I think it was 1.05 or 1.06 when i played my first b.net game but i had a year or so before i played my second.

I played a 4v4 on those "Green Hunters" maps. The ones same shape as fastest now, but still had clutter. I was toss, and I didn't know how to ally. They didn't explain it to me, called me a noob, then BS'd me. I was actually really sad. =[

My first Battle.Net game... Wow...

Well, it was the first day Starcraft came out. I went mass marines while my friend made mass overlords. He said he thought they must be strong because they sounded so scary.

Err only thing i remember was first starting the campain (protoss) and got to the point where there are pylons and shield batteries, and was like " Wtf is this blue shit for" and proceeded to stand there tryin to recharge my shields, assuming the sheild batteries radiated some kind of charging gosu invincible thing.

First game was probably a ums... Oh well.

I played a year or 2 of offline sc before I first went on battlenet mainly because my brother wouldn't allow me to go onto battlenet or even watch him playing on it.

When finally I got the courage to go on battlenet myself I got told by a couple of friends in my history class the commands like /f l and /f a and stuff and which server to go on. My first account was skyglow2, and because of the many offline campaigns and 1v1 with the computer I played sorta decently on LT. Kept losing on public 1v1 LT games and ended with something like 50-150 record which I thought was really good. I even got the reps from back then, roughly 20 of them or so and they are so fun to watch me going at 40-60 apm :D

1st game:

SC Shareware. I had not played the demo or anything, just wanted to play multiplayer. So I log on and the only possible matchup is TvT. So this guy totally abused my innocence, back in 99 I was 12 years old and this dude convinced me that if I clicked on the little box that said allie vision I would get 1000 minerals. So I pressed it many times and left it on a bit, after some minutes I realized I was being used. -___-; I got owned, hard. Funny game.

I guess one learns from his mistakes.

I had played the campaign's a bit but those campaigns really had only taught me the terran tech tree and nothing else. I decided that I wanted to see how I compared to everyone else but I was on a 56k modem at the time and it seemed like it took 2hours to download the patch which i wasn't even sure would work but i was so excited about the idea of playing other people that I decided it was worth it. I registered the name "DarkMage4" and joined a BGH game which at the time I had no idea really what was, it was a 3v3 game and I picked terran and the game started. I was ready to read the briefings on what my mission was but much to my suprise I didn't get a briefing and i seen my command center so I just started playing. About 5 seconds into the game some jackass left for no real reason and than alot of other people left besides one guy who had visioned me and allied me and he kept screaming "ALLY ME" I had no fucking idea what he was talking about and so I killed his army that was still allied to me and he left the game.

My favorite memory though was my blizzard ladder experiences. This was a time before replays keep in mind. I actually developed a fast expansion build that I don't exactly remember the specifics of other than that i would just have my main and nat hatcheries and pump pure hydras from them for like 10 minutes and own everything, this strategy actually got me to like 1175 rating and I would like to believe that it was pretty remarkable considering my few weeks experience and how much i was already accelling at the game

my first sc game of memory was as the name i use now. I was allied with a user that used the name metamorph, and the map was sherwood forest. I spawned 2 o'clock, and my ally 3. He was zerg, and much much better than I could ever want to be. He was pushing out to hold the middle and kept saying send tanks here to help. After about 5 minutes i sent my first and only tank... he was visably angered at my lack of production. his skill was natural, and he massed like a good zerg does, and won anyhow.

my first game of bw, i switched to zerg to try the new "lurker". I built no additional hatcheries on hunters and made fast lurker (clicking the icons, and with the tech tree picture on my lap). I won this game in a crushing fashion.

lol.. my first game was in like a map called new ice hunters and i used to never get gas and used to only make 10 scvs then get mass rines with 1 rax then when i had 8 rines a dt comes and i died lol..
"i was like my rine's heads are choppin off" and i used to think that protoss was rigged and also zerg since i expierienced spikes from nowhere. i switched to zerg for 20 minutes since i saw the spikes owning my rines so hard in a row but after i make 9 drones, i kept hearing the sound wrong (my english was kinda crappy at that time since it was 1999) and i heard it "slime more oarlords" and im like uhh crap and i mine mins and make pool then kill my drones then make lings.. then i quit Z and back to terran.
lol =)

Omfg, isn't it so fucknig weird how much we can remember from our first game?
haha true.. after playing against the cpu, for some reason i thought human players would only attack after half an hour too. So i started massing supply depots and totally walling off every possible entrance to my base. By the time i had about 20 or so, and maybe 3-4 marines, all the sudden this wave of forces comes over, not too strong, but against supply depots, no match. He just punched a hole right through them and got me. Immediately a door was opened in my brain and i realised "im playing people here, they can do whatever they want whenever they want". Then it went on to a lot of bgh to get used to using late game units.
I went to the chippy last night and only orderd chips because I knew I could get fish from her bushy plate.

wow..... my first game on b.net...

well...

lets see....

It was on the map Challenger because it was the first in the folder that i saw.

About 8 years ago, I had no idea how to type, so half way through i quit, and i asked people in Brood War USA-1 or sumtin like that how to talk in game, they all laughed at me like i was noob. So, i found out, joined game 2. challenger map again. I had NO clue how to play. Suddenly, i forgot how to type again, so i started slamming on my keyboard to find the button that allows you to type. I kept insisting to myself that it was "t" because it means talk. Found out it was enter, and by that time, i died, and i said how do you make more units, and he taught me how to play. Basics of making units, gathering resourses. And so on. I gamed and gamed and gamed, and eventually got into fastest because that's where all the noobies were.

But my first WCG gam was worse in my opinion, I went down to Comp USA, in 2003 ready to beat any other player. I had already seen the pictures of WCG 2002 and I was like "DAMN!" I went there, and map was: Hall of Valhalla. Terran vs Terran, I was proud of myself, i scouted with my barracks, got a wraith, but lord and behold, he had turrets. I just massed up in my base, without an expansion getting 1 port battlecruisers. WOOT!

Sadly, when I had 4 bc's he dropped like 8 dropships into my base full of goliaths.

ROFL. my first game i was zerg and i made 6 lings and by that time he had his first round of MnM coming to my base, and he was like "u sux". so i went and made my new name isux2 cause isux was taken lol, i was about 11 ^^. for the next 3 years after that i went into a phase of playing "zero clutter nr15" and "7v1 comp stomp" games and occasionaly a 2v2 cause i was afraid to lose 1v1. then a friend of mine showed me my first pro rep. it was H_Paul_WII vs some terran, i think it was boxer. and i was sold ^^; i was still playing zerg but then i switched to toss cause i could not deal with storm and i have been that way ever since :D

I now remembered playing the terran campain and looking at the comsat station and tried to use scanner sweep, but it said "no enough energy", so I looked at the ability and there was the icon for energy and it was the same type as the icons for minerals/gas/supply, so I was like how do I get the energy resource, where is that power station building?

My first game was a 3v3 on Zero clutter, i thought that the supreme strategy was building 2 of every production building (2 rax, 2 fact, 2 port). I had about a 60 supply army and got rolled over by mass carrier/arb

i still remember the name of the car/arb guy, xXxKORNxXx.

I was like 10 years old and It was 2v2 The Hunters

My ally quickly unallied me after my genius question "Why can I see your base?" and they went 3v1. I built a bunker or two in front of my entrance, going straight for BCs. I was dead within 8 minutes, run over by zealots, zerglings and marines =[

It was PvP on lotem.
I did mass scouts while guarding my base with photons. I attacked all the time even with one unit, but then an evil army of dragoons and zealots came and destroyed my base.

It was right after I got the game burnt from my friend from school, we played 1v1, it was TvZ, and I was so mad cause I couldn't see the whole map in the mini-map, and I didn't know what cheat he was using when he showed up at my base with guardians. I was so pissed, and he beat me like 50 times before I finally beat him. PvT.

I was terran. Map was hunter, even though it was a 1on1. I was at 6, he was at 7.30.

I didnt make more than 3 additionnal scv the whole game, and they were for gas Oô
After 30 min of game, i had two tank and a bunker at my entrance (entrance of my main, that is, i of course didn't expo). And i had around 30 turrets on my left because he attacked with Battle Cruisers. I kept making turrets until he just dropped 8 firebats to kill the turrets then proceeded to send his battle cruisers.
Game lasted around 50 min and I was very proud ....

I now understand why he would'nt answer me after that Oo

i'm not exactly sure if it was the first, but for sure it's the first i remember... it was a 1v1 on hunter, i was picked in by a not completely noob italian player, in the main italian chat... i remember i was playing toss at that times, he was T and he was at 6 he close the entrance with 2 or 3 depot and my zelots cant go in while his bunker was shooting at'em... i was a real dumb cpu but i was completely amazed by that
after a while that i suppose it could be something like 20mins... he camed out with 6-7 bcs and i left the game feeling very inadeguate ... it was winter 99 still playing

Good thing I searched first instead of creating a new topic

After hearing someone talk about his first bnet game, thought I'd share mine too. It was Hunters, he choose protoss, me random. I got protoss. PvP. I started at 5 oclock and started to figure on what I am supposed to do. It was fairly easy to figure to send peons to gather minerals. After noticing I collected enough minerals to build a gateway, I couldn't. I could not understand why the hell I could not build a gateway anywhere on the map so I cancelled, and build a pylon instead which I had no idea what the hell it does. Tried gateway again and AH! I get it! I guess I just explored all the different buildings and techs, but built not even a single unit. Opponent sneaked in side and and ball'd my base down.

I remember it like it was yesterday Lots of much more recent games I don't remember, but my first SC game, I remember it very well.

Great 2 year bump!
^^ my first was probably a 2v2 when I played Zerg and where occupied by nothing with a monstrous apm of somewhere around 3...
Needless to say, my ally was not impressed

My first game ( if i remember correctly ) :

2v2: Me terran on lt @3h i didnt know how to ally, so i think my ally left and i was vs 2 Spanish dudes who didnt even used ac ( " drop B location cabron ! JAJjaja ! " ) and dropped my main with tanks.
I got raped.
/end
it was around march-may 2005

Before playing Bnet i thought that i was gosu because i could beat 3 computers. ( i had bw since 98 but only got internet in 2004 and a legit bw in 2005 ).
Now i'm still a crappy player ( D+ toss ) but i'm 1000X better. ^^

My first B.ntgame was vs eldar-dragon whoever he migth be i just remember it. It was on bgh he expanded twice with toss while i was making bunkers and tanks until i reached the middle of the map. He just whiped my ass off. I remember i told him whats an expansion??? Teach me??? and he said "nah iam not that good, just go play LT"

My first non-money map game was on LT i was P at 6 and he was T at 9. I didnt know LT so i thougth it was an island map (never seen ramps before) [yes i actually played the game before the misions.] so i went straigth to carriers without no goon or zealot. I think he was newbie too because he turtled with tanks and turrets from his cliff to the cliff between the bases never saw i have nothing on my door, when he saw my carriers he did goliaths from one base. I almost won that game but i didnt.

Some funny first thoughts:

When i saw KBK singles channel was restricted i was like wtf? when i asked some dude he said "its a korean league". and i said "lol koreans leagues are restricted?, they must get raped really bad so they choosed to play only between them, those koreans newbies" xD lol at me now.

I thought the number one in the ladder was the better player in the world. I used to read the names every season at blizzard.net

When my friends talked about the champion of the world i was like " yes i know i saw the name in blizzard's page its some dude from USA" They looked me like a crazy man and replied: GTFO xD Boxer will always be the best!!!!

When i first saw a progamers vod i was like "wow chinese are really good at BW" xD

When i first saw FPVOD i got dizzy XD xD xD.

The first time i knew about boxer it was int the sky when he losed to Garimto. After watching the vods i alread thought he was the best of the best ever. Subliminal maybe? xD (i loved Garimto too)
i hated vods since then until the next sky starleague finals (boxer vs reach). They were just humans playing in the Nate finals not gods.

The first time i saw elky i thought it was a woman "wow a woman won the silver medal in wcg!!!"

When i played in the LG latin cup 2003 played in Peru i remember i told Josez (who?) "please rape me like u raped boxer" (that one)(Josez the boxer and didis raper) xD

Ill remember more later. HF

My first couple had to be some UMS games b/c most of my local r/l friends just played stupid UMS games b/c they said they would die easily if they played melee. When they weren't online I started to play BGH/Blue Night in Seoul and I would just play random and I swear all I can recall was when I had gotten zerg I had no idea how to build zerglings so eventually after many overlords produced I would just die to something stupid. When I played with toss I built pylons across my area so then when I built other gateways, core, etc. I could build where i wanted to (after a while I started to notice that fast zerg poolers were owning me so that changed quite rapidly in how I built) and when I got terran I hated them b/c I just thought they sucked but would still play with them since they were pretty efficient to play with...But it was me that sucked that made them suck. I would join 2v2/3v3/4v4 games mostly and even 7v1 compstomp games. After a while me and a couple of friends started making 7v1 cpu stomp NO BS....We would BS...Other then the fact of sitting there for 15-20 mins before massing units b/c we would mass buildings beforehand I think I started to get tired of sitting there and playing better people to start gaming within 5-10 mins into gaming..Also going back and playing the campaign mode helped a tad bit for each race LOL :p

wow! the first game i can recall playing was a 2v2 on sherwood forest. I got picked terran and was at 1, with my ally zerg at three. Metamorph was my ally, and he's the reason I even started to play SC. He basically held a forward position for the entire game and asked me to bring tanks... 5 minutes later my first tank arrived. He was like wtf.. i was like i dunno. He was a good WCII player, so he already knew macro/micro and shit, but not me. I hadn't played many video games since NES was big.

My first BW game, I had no clue what I was doing, but I rushed 2 lurkers on hunters. I burrowed these in my opponents base and he left.

Hmmm, I've never played vanilla SC on Bnet. Didn't have proper internet access at the time. I went to boarding school and most of us had computers in our rooms, so we played SC over LAN from day 1. We got internet shortly after BW was released and I think my first game on Bnet was a 2v2 on LT. I was Protoss (don't remember what my ally was) and at least one of the opponents was Zerg, ended up losing to Mutas.

i did complain that noone wanted to play gamespeed 5 (fast - like in singleplayer) instead of 7 (fastest). finally i gave in and asked somebody to create a game no matter what gamespeed.
a friend of my opponent joined as obs.
IIRC the map was LT, and i started at 2 o clock pos. opponent was at 8 o clock; however i didnt pay too much attention at the map before start and thought it was a symetrical 2-player map like most Blizzard 2-player maps are, so i attacked crossmap, without scouting. i lost due to awfully newbish macro/bo/economy.
after they accused me of maphacking, and i was like 'WTF are they talking about' (i didnt even know maphacking meant to have vision of whole map at that time, i thought it was something like corrupting the map runtime o.O)

that all seems so lol now...
pretty funny memories

I had already been playing against the computer/campaigns for a while when I first played against a human (my friend). We were both Terran and we played on a HUGE map. I went all tanks and he went Marines/BCs. Actually his macro was far superior to mine, but when he finally attacked, he just did attack-move and his marines got wasted. Also, by the time he got across the map, I had BC's of my own, so I won.
May the BeSt man win.

Iuno if I already posted in this thread, I might have, anyways...

I remember my first game pretty well. I picked terran (seeing how they were the easiest race in the campaing) and I just built supplys and 1 building of everything. Made Massbunkers + siegetanks + turrets, and teched to battle cruisers. What I didn't figure out was that it was a 2v2, and I hadn't allied my partner, so they went 3v1 on me. Needless to say, I didn't get any battle cruisers out, and I was overwhelmed by all of their units as they went "1a2a3a"

i can't remember my very first game. but i remember a pvt game in which i wanted to use dark archons with maelstrom. i didn't knew, that maelstrom only works on organic units when i casted it on his millions of tanks and vults T_T

i asked him "wtf??? which upgrade does your units make resistant against maelstrom?" or something like that. can't remember the original words, but the sense.

even though i'm still a total newb and i get owned most of the times, this seems soooo far away now TT_TT

My first game, I had seen my cousin play a couple times, and so I tried to play him. I played on BGH and cannoned up my choke and went for mass carriers, but he killed my cannons with reavers and then rushed in his zeals and owned me. The 2nd game I played, I played the same way and lost to mass muta. I think I only made 1 probe per rock, and I thought that I needed at least 10 probes on gas >_<. My arrangement copied my cousin (a line of pylons with gates on one side and tech on other side surrounded by cannons.

my first game was against a friend who played in bwcl 2 back in 2004. I think you can hardly imagine how bad i got raped because he didn't care about my "skill"-lvl and just played it straight. was a pvt on lt. he 6, me 9. 2 fac push, i don't think i already had 2 bers out, when he finally arrived with his troops at my base. i think it was 2000
by that time was normal to play in nosense maps that people themselves did...
so i was playing a 8 FFA on a shitty map (some were in island, some were together in a corner, one was surrounded by cliffs)
anyway..i ended up on a 1v1...terran vs protoss...i did a super siegue tank + bunker killing his base...and he said
"YOU WIN, PEACE PEACE" and left....
i will always remeber =)

First game I TRULY played on my own versus a random pubbie (without my older brother looking over my shoulder helping me, haha, I was like 9 or 10 at the time). It was on LT, because I asked a battle.net channel what the best map was and that's the answer I got. Well, it he did a proxy barracks-lift into my main and killed me with about 4 marines. I watched the replay, copied the build, and proceeded to win about 50% of my games with that one cheese. Granted it wasn't refined worth jack, but it caught people off guard at times.

I remember the first game my friend and I played against eachother. I had already played the game for awhile, so I at least had a basic idea what to do. It was PvT, he massed turrets all over the place, and I got about 20 some Carriers with 2 Arbiters. The game took well over an hour, but I brought the Arbiters behind his base, recalled my Carriers and won. He really didn't like that, so game two I went Zerg. All game I went Guardians, Mutalisks, and Devourers. Then in one last push, I maxed to 200/200 with Ultralisk/Scourge with a couple Defilers for Dark Swarm and filled up my upgrades. It took him by surprise as all he had were Valks, Wraiths, and Goliaths.

I don't remember my first game but I will tell you about my most memorable.

I used to play Terran cause the damn computer would always rush me so I would just lift off my buildings (suckers) :D. I always lost so I would play 3 comps and myself vs. 3 comps.

So then I'm chillin relaxin maxin all cool
mining some minerals outside of school
when a couple of zerglings say were up to no good
started making trouble in my neighbor hood
my buildings got scared and said
were moving with our allies in bel air

/end of fresh prince

So then I only had enough resources for 9 wraiths. Those were the most awesome wraiths I had ever commanded. I would launch devestating hit and run attacks from my 1 starport shared base. Then... my allie died so I died D:

TvT on Lost Temple, he surrounded my base (9 position) with tanks while I rushed nukes. I don't even know where his base was because I never made it out of mine, and I tried floating to an island before realizing there isn't one at the bottom left.

I created my first game (all defaults I think I only changed the speed) and I died in almost immediately to ling rush in Challenger, one v one mode. Then I followed it by a game I joined: 1v1 melee mode. The map was Sherwood forest and my aka was kruakan. Again I went terran and took 2/3 of the map slowly but surely - my enemy was a one base zerg and after about an hour game I died to guardians. Truth be said I had never seen a guardian before and a vast army of marines/tanks was decimated. I was truly mesmerized with fear and awe. I played about 300 more terran games then switch to Zerg which has been my main race for years.

My first time playing a StarCraft game was during my birthday party... I already had StarCraft on my computer, but I never played it. My friend turned it on and started playing... and he let me play it after he lost. It was 2-Way Matrix Defense or something. I started playing StarCraft everyday after that day.

Cool thread..

Yes my first game.. I dont remember many details except it was played on the map "Blue Night in Seoul" I was very impressed at the amount of minearls, but even in my newbie state I recall questioning the efficiency of the mineral layout.. it was a 1:1 TvT I around 1:00, enemy unknown, I remember a TON (8) of golaiths being droped in my base completley bypassing the impressive one bunker and tank without siege mode defense.. it probably took me twenty minutes to power that hard.. =/

That was my cruel introduction to the cold world of broodwar. I got raped many times in a row and grew a fear of the game..I was scared to play.. started playing diablo 1 instead, that was much safer..

little did i know the how this game would come to consume me...

God it coul'dve been 1v1 w/ Zidanetribal... hell how did we meet.
I remember a serie of games:
1) I went 1 base carrier and got mauled by mass hydra
2) I tried to maelstrom his tanks

I lost to a computer with terran not knowing what to do =[. I had come back from wc3 and didn't know about moving out of your defenses in starcraft cause you didn't have to creep... lol. I had always thought upgrades were a waste of money and time (to me it took forever to upgrade) and energy were slowly regenerated (I played archmage a lot in wc3) so I died with like a group of marines, two tanks, and a battlecruisers. I declared terran a weak race cause I felt only sieged tanks were usable and zealots owned them xD. With protoss it was just all whoever could mass more carriers = win.

My first Starcraft game was on the shareware version, where you could only play on Byways, and only as terran. It was a rather strange game, since my opponent dropped after about 5 minutes, and I opted to continue playing. I found that he had about 20 marines outside my base when he dropped, and he could have crushed me. ;o
I used that game to explore the terran tech tree. Pretty fun, overall.

3v3 fastest.

Massed up a shitload of cannons/pylons and waited for my allies to win.

Then one of the guys wouldn't ally or some shit, and there was e-drama about who to bs who. and it somehow ended up with me dead and left me confused.

Then I realized I didn't "ally", I thought it was automatic because everyone of my ally's visions went up but w/e.

I played sc in singleplayer or on lan against comps at a friends house who had two computers. Then i didn't play it for some time, until i met someone in school who told me that he was playing sc. I got internet just a few months before that, but no flatrate yet.
So we played 1on1 on big game hunters and since i was confident in 2vs3 comps, i thought i could beat him as well. Also my friend with whom i played on lan was at my place and as he was better than me, it was my backup strategy to let him play on my account if i would lose.
I went terran against him being protoss. Of course i build exactly 12 scv for minerals and 3 for gas, more scvs would be wasting money!.
I started to get a bunker and then build a few more marines and tanks. Well that was about the time when arbiters started recalling units in my main, totally owned.
So after my defeat i let my friend play and he was raped by scouts.
Good old times.

man i remmeber my ifrst, it was a 7v1c on fastest possible, i was fighting off the computer valiently since he had spanwed next to me and was amazed at how my allies built so much stuff in such a short time, thinking of how i wish i could do that.

i also managed to make 3 lurkers accidentally and felt invincible from the computer then he scanned it and they died. I had no idea how i made the lurker and was very sad when i couldnt figure it out again. If i remember right i kept going to the hydralisk den and trying to upgrade lurkers to make them and was confused to why they wouldnt work

first game was as zerg, and now it's my main race, although i have gone trhough trends as being a protoss. But i never was able to use terran.

My first game was actually playing against koreans on b.net. I knew nothing of builds and when I used protoss, I sucked complete ass.

I remember my minerals soaring extremely high,i would forget pylons. I was baffled when the korean guy went two gate(i didn't know it was two gate at that time), I considered it weird.

I knew it was certain death when his three zeals came out first and my first one had not come out yet. I left in complete confusion as to what happened.

Of course, later I would stumble on gg.net and tl.net. My first progamer match that I watched was mind vs savior on blue storm.

Sc is such a good game.

My first B.net game (like 9 years ago, wtf I'm old)...

It was a 3v2c on BGH, vanilla, I was Terran. I still remember actually typing in "show me the money" just to see if anything happened. It didn't, of course. But one of the other players was actually pretty manner and told me the cheat codes didn't work on B.net. ^_^

I remember of course just turtling and getting a group of BCs along with the other guys' carriers or whatever. It took like 40 minutes 'cause I would just make 2 starports and only 1 SCV per patch, haha.

I was actually soooo stoked about winning a 'real' game with other human beings online, I went around telling like my neighbor and stuff, it was a new and exciting experience for me. Dang, I was like 15 at the time and I see remember a scene from that game very clearly... nostalgic.

Nice thread with so many funny posts

My first experience with SC:
About 8 years ago I moved in with a friend of mine who played SC.
I think I had only played half of the the terran campaign. But he tried to teach me how to play 1v1 and told me to play protoss, he played random (with over 1500 games on bnet). I remember trying to learn the basic build order for protoss. Think he told me 1000 times the basic build order of 8 pylon, 10 gate, 12 assimilator but I never could remember it lol (how hard is it to remember 3 things lol But the game was so fast!). I also never got past zealot tech cause he'd roll me before I had to worry about it lol.

A lot of games later I managed to stay alive but never could get out of my natural choke cause he contained me all the time taking the map. Think it took 10-15 games before I saw more of LT other than my main.

I also remember my first ever win vs my friend, I proxy gated 1 gate in is main. On some of the pos on LT you can sqeeze in a pylon and a gate in the shaddows. I was so proud.

But beeing totally newb, not winning anything (thx to my friend) and not even knowing the tech tree for toss I quit playing, but started watching sc-progaming instead and never stoped doing that.

8 years later:
About 3 months ago I had some time to kill and thought I'd start playing again, after training and with the knowledge from watching the sc-scene for years I beat my friend straight up, no cheese, for the first time. I was so happy

Now I can't put sc away.

Oh God I know this feeling, beating the person who introduced me to the game was a pretty big milestone in my Starcraft "career".

I remember my first game 10 years ago.
I used to play this game LAN only with one of my friends and I usually beat him quite easily, but he got to play it online earlier than me (we were 13 years old). When I first got into bnet, he has already been playing online for 2 weeks and we played a ZvP (me being Z). When I had about 7 drones, he killed me with a single zealot lol.

I 3-hatch zergling [because that's all I knew how to do] and the opponent did like gate/gate/forge/cannon build. This was back around 1999.

I killed all of his stuff with a wave of zerglings except for the forge [which was in some corner of his base]

then I spent 3 minutes chasing his last probe since I thought you had to kill all units to end the game.

My very first game (before I even had the game myself) wasn't in Bnet but rather in a "PC bang". After that I had some more LAN games before I started in Bnet so my first Bnet game isn't that interesting because I already had a bit of experience.
So I was there with a friend, and we started a 2v2 game on some Blizzard map. I chose Protoss, my ally Terran, and a Zerg and Protoss player joined too.

After approx. 20 minutes, the situation looked like this:
- I had: a few zealots, a few goons, and I started making carriers. All from 1 base only
- My ally had: exactly 2 tanks, a few goliaths, a few ghosts, 1 nuclear silo. Also 1 base only
- I don't remember what the enemy Protoss had, but I think he was a noob too. He didn't do anything
- Now the fun part: the Zerg guy had the whole map and like 200/200 hydras. And guess what happened next. He just ran into our bases and raped us hard.

It should be kept in mind though that this was SC classic, not BW, version 1.00. Zerg larvae spawned twice as fast as they did after version 1.04. But still, we sucked horribly at that time of course.

lol. My first game was on a map I can't remember, probably a Blizzard map. I played Terran/Zerg versus comps with Terran my "main" race, though i sucked horribly. I thought I'd go Zerg since I watched a few friends of mine own hard on LAN games.

I had like, one drone per mineral patch and built only 1 extra Hatchery aside from my main, in my own base. When my Protoss opponent scouted me, I was like "WTF is his Probe doing in my base?". Then he 2 gate zeal rushed and contained me with 6 Zeals, so I decided to go Hydras. I had built up a ctrl group of Hydras and pushed out, killing the 6 Zeals. I almost made the middle of the map when 12 Carriers met my poor army.

Those were the days...
I know where my towel is.

My first game ever was a 1v1 fastest game. It was PvP and I went speed zeal + dt. He had 30 or so cannons so that attacked failed miserably. I then snuck an observer into his base and saw he was spamming carriers, so i spammed scouts and arbiters. When his carriers showed up they got raped by stasis + scouts. GG
