Okay, I KNOW this topic has been discussed to death, and I KNOW you would have told me to use the Search function.

I've tried it.

Anyways, I think I know what the problem is, just not how to solve it.
Here's what the Korean looks like in my SCBW.
Please disregard the crazy color, it's just Windows 7.

Here's what I think is happening:

I found that Courier doesn't actually support Korean font. But when I type in other fonts that do support Korean such as Batang or Gulim, it works fine.

This is what the Korean looks like on my Starcraft.

Just in case you ask, yes, I did follow the recommended fixes.

My theory is that my SCBW is using a font that doesn't support Korean. Can anybody give me a fix for this?

you could also try putting your location to korea in region and language. It seems you already have the system set to korean, which is good also. Another fix that sometimes works is to delete your fntcache.dat in your system 32 folder. Do not delete the dll fntcache though. After you delete the dat file restart your computer.

I have korean set to my location, as well as having the keyboard installed. I'm able to see Korean in channels and in game, but for some reason the game list still is the boxes.

I have this same issue where I can see Korean in chat channels and in game but not in the game list but I found that if I load up BW right after I boot then I can see Korean in the game list. If I wait too long I get those boxes in the game list instead.

I have not the same problem as CaucasianAsian.
I gave up long time ago but I'd love to hear if anyone was successful in fixing this.
When someone talks to me in Korean I just type:
이해가 안돼. 한글 못해.
from memory and try to get them to switch to English.
If he begins spamming me in Korean I just reply:
니 엄마.
and get on with the game.

Go in your region and language settings

Since you already have Korean keyboard settings done...

Select Korean in Formats tab

and then go to Administrative tab and select "Language for non-Unicode programs" to Korean (edit: you've done this already i see)

These should be all you need to read/type korean

Oh my God. This made me laugh so fucking hard. Back on topic, isn't it also cause the game is so old that it has to do with the language your pc runs on? I remember I had Korean installed in my PC and I had an english version of the game, which also gave me broken letters and boxes.

***This is only for those who still have problem with the game list even after applying correct settings in the Regional and Language settings.****

+ Show Spoiler +
I have investigated this issue and it seems like Starcraft uses Times New Roman font by default for game list which will result displaying boxes/squares. I had 2 PCs with exact same Regional/Language settings but one had problems displaying Korean font on the game list. The difference was one had Microsoft Office Installed and one didn't. One that had MS Office installed displayed Korean correctly on Starcraft. My guess is that installing MS Office defaults font to Korean instead of The Times New Roman.

I just installed MS Office on another computer and now I am able to display Korean fonts correctly on Battle.net game list.

There's alternate solution which involves altering a registry key.

Go into your HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\FontSubstitutes
Create a new String Value called "Times New Roman" without quotes.
Input "Gulim" w/o quotes into the value data.

Log off and log in or restart your computer to apply

This should fix your game list display

Also including a registry .key files for those that are too lazy to navigate into the windows registry
Run "Add tnr to gulim" and it will add the needed registry key
Run "Remove tnr to gulim" and it will remove the key and revert back to original state

It's not the game list that's the problem; It's the in-game chat.
BTW I tried it and it didn't solve anything (I have MS Office 2007 installed).
It doesn't bother me that I can't talk to Koreans in game--I still get my ass kicked anyway--but that there's something with BW that I can't fix ㅠ_ㅠ.

EDIT: NVM I'm an idiot.

Apparently I also had to change the Format Tab (Thx Cadical!) to Korean (as in date, time, etc...)
I can now see the Korean chat in game.
Thx for the help! :D

I'm going to give this a try. That makes sense as before I upgraded my PC to Windows 7 I could see Korean in the games list. But after i upgraded I forgot to install microsoft office. I'll post a response to let others know it works in the event that it does!

I thinks the problem is with system code page since I'm pretty sure Windows 7 installs East Asian fonts by default. Try following the steps here and change your system locale to Korean:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-CA/windows7/Change-the-system-locale

Edit:
Also try this:

I have win7 64 bit (no idea if that changes anything )
Control Panel -> Clock, Language and Region -> Region and Language
and now I changed everything to Korean.
Formats tab: Format = Korean
Location = Korea
Keyboard and Languages -> Change keyboards... -> Add -> Korean -> Keyboard -> Microsoft IME
Administrative -> Change system locale -> Korean
Reboot
Now for me it worked everywhere.
Can read and type in chat, gamelist and ingame.
Some other programs might turn korean, in my case it only effected torrent program.
Maybe you don't need to change all of these things, I am not sure, you can experiment.

Yeah I have the same problem. Actually I find that changing the system locale to English and then back to Korean fixes it, but only temporarily. Let us know if that fix works.

This is not exactly relevant to your problem, but how about using applocale too? I prefer that to changing my system's locale entirely.

You simply need to change your format/regional settings to Korean (first tab on language settings).

Dude, thanks SO MUCH. I set location/format to Korean (I forgot to do that), but the list was still messed up.
I even have Microsoft Office 2010 on my computer, but I don't know why it didn't work.

I tried your registry solution, and it worked!

I can see the list now!

Also, is that FontSubstitutes thing what it sounds like? Because some font on TeamLiquid also changed.

That's pretty cool-- I think I'll replace Times New Roman with Comic Sans or something (although I doubt Comic Sans supports Korean).

Thanks for your help!

Yup I forgot to explain that part but that does what it exactly sounds like. It substitutes Times New Roman font to Gulim font. So whenever you're system tries to use TNR font, it will use Gulim font instead. So when you have the need to use the real TNR font later on, you can remove the registry key that's been added.

BTW, you don't need to set the location to Korean, that part is unnecessary. But you do need to set the format to Korean.

The problem is that only the more expensive W7 versions can change the regional language settings, it's simply missing in my MSDNAA version.

I'm going to give this a try. That makes sense as before I upgraded my PC to Windows 7 I could see Korean in the games list. But after i upgraded I forgot to install microsoft office. I'll post a response to let others know it works in the event that it does!

This does fix the problem! Just got around to it. It didn't work at first, but a lot of stuff doesn't "fix" until you restart your computer. So after I restarted my computer after installing microsoft office, it worked.

Doesn't work for me........ I even restarted comp. do I have to re-install microsoft office or something?
