In my opinion, both GG and Gosu are WAY WAY WAY overused.
It's so stupid to see people who think they are being cool add a "GG" at the end of their post. WOW, OK, NOW YOU'RE A PROGAMER! YOU WROTE GG.
Seriously, this isn't a game so why write GG? It's not cool, it's not cute, and for goodness sakes, it's certainly not funny.
The other one is Gosu. Personally, I believe this word should be reserved for the best of the best. It's being destroyed by the English Starcraft community being used on every single thing. (e.g. My new poster is so Gosu). Gosu, as you probably know, means high hand. Which ultimately means master. Not only is this word used on things now, but people use it on folks who are not actually Gosus. You can be a progamer and not be a Gosu. Some people don't seem to get that concept.
Gosu, IMO, should be reserved for the utmost top and mannered people such as BoxeR, iloveoov, Yellow, XellOs, NaDa, Reach, etc... (certainly not limited to this list, I'm sure I left a few out, but that's why I wrote etc...)
The English community always does this crap. They take a word (Gay for example), start MASSIVELY using it, and end up destroying all meaning and respect for the word.
How do you guys feel on this?

A friend of mine (not a big SC gamer) and I abused "gg" and "gosu" for a period, and my entire Computer Science class knows the meanings of those two words (especially "gg" since it is ambiguous).
Even my CS teacher says them on occassions.
|
well..... i think GG isn't korean at all, it's like not using gl or omg , dunno, maybe some ppl just use it the wrong way. I can't believe it really bothers u that much ... maybe it's sad but don't worry gg

i agree with you but come on, wasted 's post was funny
bear in mind that it's often people with bad english who use lots of "!!!!" etc in their posts and for some reason, I find it more understandable
people who know english should realise how stupid that stuff looks

Yes it is
Anyways, I think when someone says gosu or gg, they are not seriously trying to offend anyone or ruin the meaning of the word and it really shouldn't bother you that much

I say gg at the end of every game I play, I just do it.
I never use the word gosu tho, sounds .... stupid.

i dont really care about the overusing of "gosu" and "gg".
i dont know about other languages, but in german there are a bazillion of words which basically just mean "very good". it's like every generation has it's own words for it, it gets (over)used for a while, and then it's replaced by the next.
"gosu" is just the bw community fad word for "very good". once it's been spreaded there's no way to stop the inflationary use of it.
what i personally don't like is the total overuse of cursing/swearing, especially of the word "fuck". there're just too many possibilities to put a "fuck".... i find it pretty immature and dumb.
|

I think its funny how some people use gosu as an adjective, noun, and verb, sometimes all in the same sentence.

It is a computer science class, everyone has some knowledge of those words.
Never in other classes or other aspect of the life though. It is sad, I admit.

gosu is overused, have to agree. gg is getting annoying too, espesially when people say it when a game is about to start.... that just doesn't make sense to me.

why is this a concern of yours that people overuse it? You have a minor and utterly pointless pet peeve. Congratulations.

On side note
Gosu means exactly the same thing in chinese. Except pronounced 'gao so' = 'high hand' = master.

1024MB, if you follow these directions, you'll feel better in the morning.
First, you should stand up from your computer seat. Then you should spread your legs about shoulder length apart. Thirdly, you should lean over until your head is as close to the ground as possible. Use a hand to steady yourself if necessary. Now look up towards the seat of your pants. You should see a stick portruding from your ass. Simply reach up and pull it out and nothing like this will ever bother you again. You're welcome.

For the record, I have never ended a post in "gg," and I generally refrain from using "gosu" in all instances except for Starcraft related sarcasm.
I, for one, responded "that way" because reading your posts is like watching anal rape, and I felt something needed to be said.

In context, it probably means "he is gosu". For example, if I said "Klogon nin go su da" it would mean "Klogon is gosu." So if was I talking about some guy and I just said "go su da" and the topic was about him, people would assume I am calling him gosu. They could also be refering to themselves, such as "na nin go su da", which means "I am gosu". So like... yeah... anybody correct me if I'm wrong with my piss-poor Korean, but a literal translation would be "gosu (insert a pronoun) is" such as "gosu he is".

If you're tired of the jokes, just ignore it. There is nothing you can really do about it :-/.

saying GG at the end of the posts were funny? wow.... people....

I agree, but i think your obsessed.

I find the word "rape" in bw coherence disturbing. It has nothing to do with getting owned in a computer game. And 14-year old newbies are spamming it everywhere even if it wasn't a "rape" but a regular same level game that had one "fair" winner.

i like saying gg after i ban your ass
|
i think its like fashion. gg and gosu are sort of en vogue. time ago no one used the word 'mass'. now its getting really big. i mean, you're mass anything if you're cool mass gg

If i play horrible i dont type gg. Because it wasnt. Some people get offended but I'm not going to be trendy and say gg when it wasnt. People get pissed and call me bm but its really not the case at all. If i get raped, its not a gg, I am very mannered however if its not a gg im not going to call it one.

huey lewis - hip to be square

kaka i usually just use it (gosu) inside the game while i'm watching a rep or something like that

I used to use "gg" a whole lot.. The meaning of gg changed into a word we use when things are fucked up..because "gg" symbolizes that you give up.
When someone throws up after drinking "gg" when someone gets caught cheating on an exam "gg" and etc.
|
Good point, but i think gg is pretty much friendly way of letting ur opponent know u enjoyed the game. Gosu is overused, i agree. And english is the worst language on earth.
