Monday, May 09 11:00am, STX Soul vs ACE kicks off, after 6 sets the score is 3-3. Time for the Ace match, the match to determine the victor of these series. The players send out? firebathero for Ace and Bogus for STX.
Wait........its a TvT? What is so good about that?I mean seriously?TvT? perhaps the most boring and stalemate matchup in Starcraft BW? I present to you the reccomendation poll from the ace game: I pity the fool who voted no, and no you can't vote no here to troll me because its a screenshot and not a poll.
The Game
The game starts off, firebathero spawns at the 5 as yellow while Bogus spawns at 7 as blue. Both players are serious and out for blood.
Both players opt to go for a 1fac FE, small skirmishes happen but nothing in particular. Bogus decides to go for a quick Starport and starts making Wraiths, whereas Firebathero decides to go for an armory and starts making goliaths. After a while, the game looks like your average TvT, with the stalemate already beginning to form. Tanks on both sides, Wraith out for one, Goliath for the other, Barracks floating for vision, a standard TvT.
Skirmishes happen in the middle, Bogus then decides to go for a Vulture drop in Firebathero his base, it gets spotted by a spotter turret and an SCV at the 6 spawning position. Firebathero already has a turret up at his base and sends tanks out quickly to destroy the vultures. Bogus however, had a good plan, while the drop was ongoing he sneaked in Vultures from the north into firebathero his natural, causing several SCV casulties. Forcing firebathero to take his scvs back to the main and forces him to pull units to deal with the Vultures. The Vultures get dealt with, and Bogus smells the oppertunity to break the stalemate in the middle, firebathero's forces were after all hunting vultures in his main and natural. However firebathero quickly sieges more tanks behind his slightly broken tank line Ain't getting through that
At this point both players decide to turtle up, and take expo's, Skirmishes happen, but noone gets decisivly ahead, the map inevitably gets split between the two terrans: A dreaded sight for most for spectators
Firebathero decides to go air superiority, he pumps valkyries from 1 Starport while Bogus throws down some more starports for more wraiths.
At this point however, Firebathero seems to win more skirmishes then Bogus, the reason behind this is simple: 20 minutes in the game, Firebathero is on +3 Vehicle Weapons, whereas Bogus is still on.....+1.
Bogus decides to throw down a few more starports for more air production, Firebathero already has a Valkyrie fleet ready for air superiority and decides to thrown down starports Lots and lots of Starports.
Both players now have a decent combination of Valkyries, Siege Tanks and Wraiths. Firebathero decides to push at the bottom, prompting Bogus to pull his forces to the south. However Bogus makes a crucial mistake: Where are your other forces at?
Bogus mismicroes his valkyries, losing them all in the process and winning little, from this point forward Firebathero has DEFINITE air superiority.
Bogus manages to snipe several stray undefended tanks but firebathero in turn destroys 12-14 tanks, these tanks only had 2 Goliaths to support them, without his Valkyries and a smaller wraith count Bogus was unable to defend these and had to give up all these tanks. pewpew laserz
From this point onward it looks like Firebathero is in no position to lose, his Wraiths rule the sky, he absolutely wrecks Bogus his economy, Mass wraiths destroy every single SCV at every expansion. However Bogus then decides that enough is enough, he decides to make Goliaths. The counter to lots and lots of Wraiths?A bucketload of Goliaths.
Firebathero has little to no ground army due to his investments in wraiths, However Firebathero has a small group of siege tanks left, these are able to ward off the massive ball of Goliaths and Siege tanks, forcing them to go north. The 1 O clock easily gets taken out by the massive Goliath force of Bogus, Bogus also smartly picks off Firebathero his Siege tanks at the main with his air force. Firebathero looks lost, as Bogus continues to ravage his expos with a great metal ball of death.
However: Firebathero came back, While Bogus was able to destroy the stray tanks and even units producing at the Factory, the Factories were still very much alive and kicking. Bogus was forced to pull back his own air forces, he feared losing his air force to Firebathero's much greater air force. At this point, Bogus started falling apart, on the way back to his bases, Bogus was sidestabbed by Firebathero his air force, losing a few Wraiths. Bogus mistakingly split his forces, allowing the critical mass of Wraiths to pick off any stray Tanks, Goliaths, or even Wraiths. Easy pickings, notice how the blue dots on the map are split among right side of the map, allowing Firebathero to pick off multiple stray units. All the while, Bogus had zero economy due to Firebathero his extensive wraith harass.
On top of this Bogus still did not get proper upgrades, Firebathero was on 3/3 Air, wheras Bogus was on 1-1 Air, this is not bad because Firebathero had air superiority after all but Bogus had: 2-0 Vehicles, his units had no armor upgrades at all, whereas Firebathero his ground units were upgraded 3-1. Even worse for Bogus was the fact that Firebathero was able to retain the 12 o clock expansion, allowing him to build up a decent force of siege tanks and goliaths. Bogus had no economy left and little units. He attempted a break at Firebathero his main base, but this failed due to tanks on the high ground. At this point Firebathero had both superiority in the air and on the ground, this all came together in the final battle: Firebathero quickly picks off the two of the 3 tanks of Bogus, while having 6 tanks of his own. He then pulls back his Wraiths and forces Bogus his Wraiths to target his Goliaths, he then swoops back in with his Wraiths and easily cleans up whatever is left of Bogus his forces.
Bogus has no economy left, no units left, his last attack at Firebathero his main gets taken out and he is forced to GG. GG, an excellent game of TvT.
Firebathero looks confident, he looks like he is ready to tear apart his opponents, he looks like he is ready to dance once again. Backstage he can no longer be contained and is smiling Truly the MVP of today. However, Lee Seung Eun is no longer able to contain himself, his awesomeness must be shown, and he delivers : + Show Spoiler +
Boast, you have earned it.
All in all, an impressive game from both players, TvT can be a very entertaining matchup, the players make it so.
I realize this is rather long, so here is the TLDR version:
Bonus: QT of the match, my well inappopriate trained eye never misses the QTs, so here is the QT of the match. + Show Spoiler +
praying hard for her favorite player, dem cheeks are loveable
PS: I know that the Starport screenshot is later in the game, however I was unable to get a decent screencap of FBh his Starport count so I had to look further in the VOD for it, my apologies for this.
Edit: I fixed some grammar(hopefully), added the VOD from nevake and added Bonus. Title is fixed now, sorry for the inconvienience.
It's great to see Firebathero can still play some great games (he's had quite a few since joining ACE). I'll definitely put this on my to watch list and check it out later. It seems like it was a really great match.
It's funny FBH had the superior upgrades in this game. I remember getting annoyed with him so much in the past for not even managing 1/1 vehicle upgrades. He's still one of my favourite players though.
Hopefully the king of ceremony continues to break out of the army containment to show us more epic dance moves.
Thanks for the writeup, I think you did a pretty good job
Holy shit this was an epic battle report for an EPIC game!
I'm kicking myself for not including FBH in my FPL team (even though I had him last season, only to trade him just before he started winning ><), but I only decided to include one ACE player and I went with ggaemo. Not a bad choice per se, but anyone with FBH in their FPL team must be one happy puppy now.
There was some great turning points in the game, when bogus, after losing his econ, when to siege into FBH's main, FBH only had 4 goliath at the bottom of his own ramp, but he stalled then 4 more goliath were pumped from his fact so he could attack from his main and from the bottom of his ramp to kill the 4 tanks, that was great :D
lol I'm unlucky. After seeing the Ace match lineup I went "Fffffuuuuuu TvT zzzzzzzzzzzzzz" and turned stream off. Then I go back to TL and all talk about this being the best TvT ever. X_X
Am I the only one who liked stalemate TvT with tank lines and dropships? Of course this game was nice (and there have been a lot of new trends in BW) but it looks too chaotic to me. Thanks for the writeup!

Yeah I'm sorta missing the mass dropships myself... I like this too, though.

Boxer vs Hiya beats this game in terms of awesomeness imo, but it is definently one of the most entertaining TvT's I have ever watched.
very well written , thx for the effort , eveyone check out the game
p.s i'm amazed after 11 years bw is still evolving , who thought a new era in tvt is born i mean after flash got beaten by mass wraith (can't remember his opponent )

You mean probably how FlaSh has battlecruiser-rushed Really in MSL recently?
You left out the part where FBH floated all of his starports over to his island expansion, creating an impenetrable wall over the sky that undoubtedly won him the game.
But seriously, if anybody has a screenshot of that moment, it would be incredibly epic to include in the OP
One of the big things you forgot to mention is that the upgrade difference started off really early on in the game. In fact, I think it's perhaps one of the biggest mistakes Bogus made throughout the entire game that allowed FBH to make his prolonged comeback from his earlygame setbacks. At around 23:00 of the vod you can see that FBH's tanks were already 2-0 when Bogus was still 0-0. This allows FBH's tanks to kill Bogus' tanks in 2 seiged volleys while Bogus' tanks have to hit FBH's tanks 3 times to kill them. Bogus' early game advantage began to be severely nullified as he simply could not break FBH's tank lines easily even with superior numbers.
So while Bogus attempted to break FBH's tank lines using his early game advantage, FBH was looking farther into the future and expanded faster instead of putting as much money into factory units like Bogus did. Because Bogus was so severely behind upgrades, FBH's strategy worked, and halfway through the game FBH's tanks were 3-0 to Bogus' 0-0. FBH was and heading into the lategame with 5 gas bases to Bogus' 3 gas bases.
Match is pretty awesome! Thanks for the battle report. There are some minor spelling mistakes in it, otherwise I really appreciate the time you spent on it
