I still played BGH and FMP up until recently but BW is in desperate need of patching.

Btw 3v3 Hunters, which is extremely popular with Koreans, is great fun also and requires good micro and excellent decision making. Play well or they will get mad at you and type a lot of what i assume to be bad things in Korean. I think i prefer it to BGH as Z is a bit more useful and fun.

FMP is really fun when you get to learn the builds too, nothing beats macroing from 20 raxs and trying to micro them at the same time too, its just crazy fun.

Some strategies on BGH just don't work like they do in low money maps, so that is why it is called a noob map. For example, starving your opponent isn't really an option since they basically have two bases worth of resources with 50k per patch. Although noobs often realize that and therefore never expand, so in response it is funny just go to straight to 4-5 base and then roflstomp them.

Also total Terran imbalance because you can perfect wall at every single position and just turtle the entire game.

Play low money Hunters and starvation is a valid tactic. I remember one memorable time i had as Zerg, which is hard to begin with, winning against TPP by simpy denying expansions for about 20 minutes until they gave up.

Though I'd disagree that the BGH population wasn't notably hurt by SC2, the BGH community is definitely still active alongside people playing Fastest (though can't really say they have a 'community', as far as I know). BGH players are definitely the most eccentric of the BW scene. If I were to make a random comparison, I'd say "low money" would be the track where professional (or wannabe pro) racers practice, while BGH is the streets where the cool kids hang out, do crazy stuff and generally just hang out and chill together.

You heard of VGT? Fastest definitely has a community, even a very popular ladder that run for 20+ seasons with upto 30k games played in them (although they say this one is the last one ) Hacking is unfortunately what is ruining pub games of it, the only hope is to play against VGT people (channel Clash on USWest usually iirc).

I'm curious. What exactly in BW needs desperate patching?

Didn't you see the reps where idra and nony got smashed on bgh by some top bgh players? And yea, if you play pubs of course you're gonna get new players in the game...

The 1t2t, to be specific. Combining it with the firing angles has made BW incredibly imbalanced.

Mineral hack, various lobby hacks (you can be kicked out of your OWN game with one of them), spawn 500 drone hacks, make any unit you like invincible, nuke anywhere works again, drophack that cannot be stopped by protection. Someone suggested theres a hack which makes yout units kill themselves i cannot confirm or deny this, but the others i know 100% are true.

Plus now BWHF doesn't let you check players in lobby without a donation... so i literally cannot even avoid autominers/auto requeue and the other obvious hacks anymore. I was playing public BGH/FMP every day till that happened. Don't you think this is worthy of patching? Even automining and multicommand could be easily fixed if they could be bothered.

Yeah, this is the source of Surfer's true powers. I bet he even made all his passwords with that combination allowing him to log in on any website in matter of nanoseconds. Once, he crashed our whole site because he typed in his password too fast.

I see where is the problem. You can't play public games on Bnet and expect a fair game. But this is also sometimes the fun part. You play a public game with friends crushing hackers with weird tactics which makes it more challengeable. Until they drop hack you that is.

Most of these hacks you mentioned have been patched, or never existed. The only hacks that are working currently are lobby hack (host hack), drop hack, multicommand, spoof, map, lag hack, and build anywhere hack. The rest are a figment of your imagination.
Maybe to solve your bwhf conundrum you should donate to dakota, he spent 10k + hours developing bwhf, and continues to this day to pay the monthly bills for the equipment that makes bwhf work (even though he doesn't even play bw anymore).

Furthermore as pac stated, playing private games formed in the channel )v( on east are 98% hack free. And much higher in skill and more enjoyable granted you avoid a a select few trolls.

Public was fine before BWHF was donation only though, and the hacks at this point at too ridiculous to even play against. Its got out of hand imo.

You already said this. I'll summarize what I said to solve this dilemma:
1. Donate to BWHF, or
2. Don't play public.

YES! <3
This is awesome. I started playing maybe 2 or 3 weeks ago and I got hooked on BGH. I even tried to search for some recent BGH thread I've seen on the forums but it couldn't find it
2v2, 3v3, 4v4 it doesn't matter, they all kick ass if you have decently balanced teams (skillwise) and it can make for really fun games :D

It's always strange to hear the phrase "low money maps," when that is in fact, the normal way to play the game.

I remember when I was in middle school, I played BGH with my friends and turtled up more than Flash. Good times.

I already plan to donate actually, but it's a sad situation to be in where you literally cannot play a public game because of hackers in almost every game. Even WITH bwhf it's not foolproof. It's not even as simple as just 'don't play public' anyway... unless you spend some time hanging around in some channels and being a part of the community. I'd love to jump onto bnet, join the first game i see and have fun and to be honest it's being ruined and puts me off even bothering.

Surely having a single coder patch a few things wouldn't be so fucking hard for Blizzard to do if they really do mean anything they ever say about 'supporting' the game.

Oh man the memories. Hoping I was at either the 11:00 or 12:00 position and that the other position was empty so I could FE there! yes, I used to FE on BGH. If the position was occupied by an enemy, I'd CHEESE THE SHIT out of them and then take their base. Then I'd be on the equivalent of 4 "normal map" bases (5 if I felt like taking the in-between one) and just turtle up and skyrocket to 200/200 while MAAAAAAYBE reaver drop harassing but probably just spamming the shit out of units. before doing some epic recalling
