Hey guys,
Recently got a new computer outfitted with windows 7. I installed SCBW and updated. It seems the game is experiencing horrible latency lag (1.5-2 second delay for every action).
I tried searching the forums couldn't really find anything in direct relation to latency lag caused by windows 7.
Does anyone know of a solution to this problem?

Most people who play BW with W7 usually have crashing issues, not lag issues. Are you sure it's not a problem with your connection? Update drivers maybe?
|
I've tried updating drivers yes, but it hasn't seemed to crash once. I just get a 2 second delay and its annoying as hell
|
Yeah, i can't say that's Windows 7. Try looking if you are automatically downloading updates from either the OS or an antivirus.
Other than that, you should be fine.
|
It seems that as the game progresses the lag gets worse and worse... Anyone?
|
Question: I'm experience the crashing issues sporadically. What's the way to fix the crashes?
|
Just found that it works fine on iccup, but cant play on USEast with my friends - the lag is unbearable.
|
One of the easiest solutions to fixing most BW problems with W7 is running it in "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" Compatibility Mode and setting the privilege level to permanently run as administrator. See link below.

Also, if you are having the visual problems with colors not working, you can fix this by checking "Run in 256 colors" and "Run in 640x480 screen resolution" in conjunction with the above mentioned fixes.

Hey guys, here's what I've found works for fixes on my Windows7 laptop:
Crashes - If they occur leaving games or when your game would be saving files to your hard drive (replays, save files) then you need to run the game as admin. This is the only time I've noticed crashes outside of the unavoidable hardware issues that come and go.
Visual issues - The change to compatibility mode did not do anything for me, but I noticed that when I alt tab from the game, close down anything extra running on my task bar and select an icon on the top-left of my desktop before alt-tabbing back to Starcraft my visual problems are gone or at the very least bearable. I have a friend that tried this and had zero luck but it has worked for me so it might be worth a shot.
Your latency is most likely caused by poor port forwarding. Ensure ports 6112-6119 both TCP/UDP are open to your computer. Since iCCup works for you I assume this is your problem as the connection between the blizzard servers and you are probably having issues. I never thought that was an issue until recently when I found out that even with ports forwarded I couldn't host games on USWest. I changed to USEast (without any hardware/software configuration changes) and haven't had a problem since. Also, like you, iCCup works fine for me.
|
I tried all suggestions including port fordwarding and still can't get this problem to go away. Not really sure what to do now.
|
I keep Windows XP just because I experience slight delays when clicking in BW on Windows 7...
|
Get ChaosLauncher and run it in Window-mode. It's kind of clunky, but it will fix any graphical issues. Also disabling all cores in the BIOS except for one apparently fixes the crashing issue.

i did what the above poster said and it worked perfectly. If you have problems with this i recommend you search about TL, theres this thread where someone made a execution command thing that supposedly taskkilled your explorer and made the game colors perfect, then when you are finished you can just quit the game and press enter and voila, your back at your desktop. EDIT: oh nvm, found it. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=101869

Nothing in this thread has fixed the latency issue. sigh.
|
If it works fine on iccup, what's the problem? Tell your friends to make an account

Silence you dont have cpu throttling enabled under windows 7?
|
I had lag issues when I port forwarded 6112-6119 with TCP AND UDP. It worked perfectly after I changed it to just TCP, so give that a shot.
|
I dont have any issues with Win7 and BW i must be lucky :D

I have a few issues as well, before I had vista no color problems no hosting problem / having more than 1 person in game. No problems at all, then I got windows 7 and I got color problem, before I wasn't able to have more than 1 person in game with me but I fixed that but still I have hosting problems. Sucks not being able to host =\

I have windows 7 x64. I had a weird colour issue (alt tab didn't work) as well as a problem connecting to battlenet. after a crapload of searching, I tried going to task manager > the processes tab > disabling explorer.exe > going file > new task (run) and running the exe from the directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\StarCraft\StarCraft.exe). Fixed both problems, hooray! maybe this will help you too.

I tried to play on my laptop as well. It seems both systems are experiencing identical problems. Is anyone out there with Bell Sympatico DSL with similar symptoms?
|
you should try pinging the battle.net server your connecting to. or running a tracert. I dont know the exact address to run it to but im sure you can find it with some searching

I ran the tracert, heres the results.

it's not a ping issue, it's directly related to windows 7. Somewhere on teamliquid someone created a batch file that kills explorer, pings your machine, then launches chaoslauncher and forces the starcraft.exe process to one core. Search it up, it definitely helped for me (although i do experience occasional crashing and the game is a little laggy, it's a lot better than it used to be.)

Found it and tried it, didn't work.
It's happening on my windows XP laptop as well which leaves me to believe its a problem with my ISP.

Hey guys, Just re-downloaded SC:BW on my Laptop has vista (windows 7) i seem to be having a lot of the same problems mentioned above and am having 1 problem not mentioned yet
Note this is all on B.net i haven't tried iccup so that might work
1. Latency issues a 2 sec lag to actions (makes the game retarted to play. Micro is so hard)
2. Crashing after a game is complete( Once a game ends my computer freaks out and gets werid colors and i have to restart to get it back to normal)
3.Not really being able to host games (Connecting to other players)
I see something about Fowarding the port or something to fix this but i'm a complete noob with computers could somebody give me some pointers to where to even start?
|
For port fowarding: 1) Open up a command prompt (windows search in the bottom left corner and type in cmd)
2) In the command prompt type "ipconfig"
3) Check the results to find the IP address (in the format of xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) of your default gateway. If you have multiple network adapters (hamachi drivers or wired + wireless connection on a laptop for example), make sure you find the IP address of the default gateway for the adapter you use to connect to the internet through. It's usually labed "Ethernet adapter local area connection" or something along those lines for a wired connection. Most default gateways have an address of 192.168.1.1, 192.168.1.254, 192.168.0.1, or 192.168.0.254.
4) Punch that IP address into your web browser as an URL to access your router's GUI page.
5) From there, forward the 6112-6119 ports to your PCs IP address (which will be listed along with your default gateways IP address in the command prompt), using http://portforward.com/ to find a guide specific to your router model.

Well.. in case you didn't know all the default battle.net servers have delay... since the beginning of brood war. The best you can do is go to options->network->low latency, but even then there's still delay. So play on iCCup where you can toggle on LAN latency.
To host games do the port forwarding thing. To stop crashing... you gotta do some workarounds since most ppl w/ windows 7 experience crashes. See the earlier posts.
|
I just found this thread... I have also recently upgraded to Windows 7 and I have SERIOUS lag issues on Battle.net. If anyone has found a solution please please please let me know...
|
|
Crashing was fixed from the other thread but latency is an issue usually separate from the OS... Despite having those problems too >_>
|
I have a problem with iccup: when i login to the abyss I have 100 ping, but as soon as I host a game it jumps to 400 ping and the only way to bring the ping back to 100 is to log in and out of bw. Overall the game almost always feel laggy when I host, I really don't know what to do to fix it. I've tried disabling all my antivirus/firewall it made no difference. My ports 6112 to 6119 on TCP and UDP are already forwarded which allows me to host, the only problem problem is that it's laggy :s. Any clue to fix this? I'am on windows 7 and using the iccup launcher.
|
-Necro- I have the same problem, and I've tried making a new thread, but nobody seems to have an answer other than the fact that the bnet servers suck. But I don't think this is the issue since players online don't have delay and neither does my friend who also just got back into brood war. I've tried everything in this thread and nothing has helped. If anyone out there has any idea what is causing this, your input would be greatly appreciated. I too have windows 7, I do not lag at all on ICCUP servers, but I would much rather prefer to play on U.S. East if possible because of the popular of UMS maps there.
|
If you are running Iccup launcher there is a plugin called lan latency to set the latency to what you experience while playing on lan. But for this to work all of the players in the game has to have the lan latency plugin. If even one person does not have the plugin the effect would not work. In U.S east I doubt most of the users play with lan latency.

Hey guys, I'm having the same issues here. Laggyness that progressively worsens over the course of a game on Windows 7. Using Intel video drivers, all the compatibility settings enabled,WinXp SP3, admin, 640x480, CPU throttling, etc. I remember that it used to run flawlessly at some point -- but then I started having these issues and a clean reinstall did not fix the issue. With or without MCA launcher. Any ideas? Has someone figured this out? Do people play in VMs or do I have to downgrade to WinXP? I have the ports forwarded as well. Could this be an ISP issue?

Hey fazek,
Do you have this issue on/all ICCup or only Battle.Net official servers? (a distinction from the OP) You say you're using Intel Video Drivers, am I correct in assuming your GPU (graphics card) is just your CPU being used for your graphics? Are you using a laptop or a desktop? Have you checked that your ports are actually open (even after forwarding?) If not try using PFPortChecker, you can get the newest version from portforward.com, if it doesn't work try this older version which I know works for win7.
I've been using win7 for 6years and haven't encountered this problem yet, so I would not be too fast on thinking it's an OS issue especially cause many people have been playing with win7 without this issue cropping up.
|
Yeah, I have been playing on this OS without problems as well. Yep, the GPU is integrated into the CPU. I'm on Iccup and ports are open, no worries there. It's a desktop. I haven't checked with battlenet servers, but I really don't think it would make a difference.
|
|
Could you confirm the following? You're running win 7 You're running Intel integrated graphics You are experiencing lag when you're playing a game, does the lag start when you start a game, or when you start starcraft, do you experience it in the lobbies or just ingame? Have you tried only multiplayer or also singleplayer? In BW: Are you running with CPU Throttling enabled/disabled? Do you have unit portaits enabled/disabled? Are you using anything to patch color issues or other win7 issues? You mentioned you've tried with a Launcher (MCA) and without, did you experience anything different?
Currently I want to lean towards it being an ISP issue because that is what the OP issue boiled down to. Xboi recently commented on an issue I was having possibly being related to bad DNS resolution, you might consider using a public DNS like google https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/ as Xboi suggested for myself.
|
It doesn't sound like a network issue. Updated graphic drivers may cause problems since they're not tested with ancient games like StarCraft.
|
Public DNS and the DLL-fix didn't seem to work. It's hard to test, because it's barely noticeable, but things are a bit jumpy, SCVs tend to decelerate and accelerate more rapidly than usual, and the game just feels weird after a while and my clicking imprecise. It's mostly in-game, although some of the animations are a bit choppy in the menus as well.
Holy shit, just seeing this thread as I post this: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/brood-war/508993-shieldbattery-bw-revitalized-for-modern-mortals :D
|
But I guess that's still gonna be a while until it's a real alternative to Iccup. I suppose I should try with some older drivers then...
