Type: Tactical Brawl Map Players: 4 Players (3,6,9,12 o clock) Size: 128 x 128 Tileset: Jungle World Concept: A four player brawl map created only by grass and castle walls. It contains special island expansions where only workers can go through. Traits: - The main and the natural and everything else is simply grass surrounded by castle walls, so it gives the feeling of the map's title, "Fortress" - At the map's diagonal extremes are four island expansions with a special door where only workers can go through by clicking on a mineral. - The Island Expo will be very safe to take early so you'll relatively able to obtain advanced tech units more quickly and have faster games. - The rush distance is relatively close, and since the Natural is a basin, you cannot slow the tension from the beginning. We expect fast games. - The Island expansions have 1000 minerals, 1500 gas.
Rush Distance, from Main Bases: Vertical, Horizontal, 27 seconds, Diagonal 35 seconds. Main: 9 Mineral, 1 Gas Natural: 7 Mineral, 1 Gas Middle Gas Expansion, 7 Mineral, 1 Gas Island Expansion, 7 Mineral, 1 Gas.

Fortress looks really...simple. But good for protoss.

Fortress has no ramps, 4 island bases that don't even require a Shuttle to get to (island bases are much much better for P in PvT), a wide open center, and a wide open natural choke. All the ingredients for a PvT haven - this should be interesting.

fortress looks so fucking weird to try to play on lol. main's/nats are really close air distance so 2-hatch muta might be really really good on it, but i dont know if a terran will ever be sent out on it lol
and wow 9 and 3 o clock look 5x easier to defend vs muta harass than 12 and 6

Why the minerals don't always either all face the wall or all not the face wall for every starting position on every map is beyond me.
Like, shouldn't it be a basic prerequisite for a new map? The difference in ZvT is ENORMOUS.

good to have alot of Ps in your fpl team then.. a the Terran advantage of the last maps is being put down in these new ones.

Fortress doesn't seem good for TvZ either. Consider: Zerg can get 3-4 gas bases up easily and by using mutas can prevent Terran from abusing that same option. I think Terran should be able to strike with a devastating midgame push, but if the Zerg can use mutas well, they should be able to stall until Hive tech kicks in, then beat the Terran back.
and how does Fortress remind you of R-point???

Proleague is definitely expecting to go on much longer than I personally expected it too. I guess they're just definitely waiting for the release of SC2.

Fortress was designed specifically so that KT can win proleague (flash turtle map)

fortress looks like its going to be a problem, no 3rd mineral only base thats in your flow of expansion 3rd gas is wayyyyyyyy exposed to the middle

I'd just like to point out the new nats mean weaker mutas but more room for drops!
And uh... it looks bad for T considering the only places prone to ground vultures are easily choke off-able and the corner expos are worker only. I don't get all the yay mech and terran comments ~_~. Even the area you leave your natural from is super open and widens up so fast. Might become a PvP fest map.
Looks like Longinus and Python... and remove everything that made the maps good for T lol.
Still waiting forward to seeing bigger maps instead of cutting off mobility on 128x128.

Didn't they play Fortress in WCG 2009 or some other arrangement in 2009? Pretty sure I've seen it quite some time ago, but might have been the PL map testing I guess.

They announced a beta version of it but nothing came of it until now

PvZ on Fortress? Oh, baby.
I'm curious about PvT. Close positions and cramped spaces, plus an expansion path from one base to the other, conventionally favor Terran. But flat maps enhance early dragoon play (particularly with the close positions!) and islands generally favor Protoss... but at the same time some of the advantages of islands - the easy of defense with cannons or carriers - are limited on Fortress, because the cannons can be shelled, while carriers will be hard to tech on such a small map...
Overall, I like the look of Fortress, because it appears to provide options. Close rush positions --> can attack. Island expansions --> can expand without a dominant ground army. Central expansions --> can expand against harass if you have a dominant ground army. And so forth.
I'm reminded of Outsider.

Fortress looks like it will make for some very wierd games. The corner expands will allow for zerg to take early 3rd+4th bases without any risk. with sunkens at their nat. The main+nat are very unfriendly to muta harass though being so open, so we'll see what race is used on it the most. Grand line is going to rape zerg though, with no easy 3rd gas. Unless zergs find a way to claim another main/nat as their early 3rd, but it just seems like they're too far apart to be able to hold it.

Something worth noting: workers seem to be able to path into the corner bases of the Fortress, but there doesn't seem to be minerals on the other side to get them OUT.
I suspect that if you drop two tanks in there, the base will be pretty hard to save.
EDIT: I also wonder if it's possible to glitch a vulture in there with some mine-laying shenanigans...

Seems like TvP will be tough on Fortress. Island expansions, lack of ramp, huge open sapce for easy flanks...
TvZ should be ok if Terran survives 2 hatch muta which potentially can be deadly due to short distance.
Also, how come I haven't seen any posts saying that "Tanks will be imba" on Fortress?!

You can just right click on your main minerals to get them out

Excellent. Roadrunner was my least favorite map of the last two years. Yes, that includes Battle Royale.
The map looks pretty cool, though for some reason Fortress reminds me of a flat Andromeda.
EDIT: And where do you put down a 3rd on Fortress? That's going to cause problems for some Zs.

Are there builds where a Zerg could manage to fake a 2-hatch build while actually going 3-hatch? Or similar fakes... I don't know the game well enough to really tell.
