The Messiah of Zerg: Kim Jung Woo A Short Article by DoctorHelvetica
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son (John 3:16)
As the presence of our sAviOr, Ma Jae Yoon, began to fade from the world of e-sports, there was a void. Who would lead the swarm to salvation. While Lee Jae Dong was a leader of the zerg, there was nothing holy in his play. His aggressive style crushed the opposition brutally, it tempted the terran man into greed and destroyed them for it. Jaedong punished man for their sin, hell reigned on earth.
There was once a young boy named Kim Jung Woo, who was eliminated in the first GOM tournament by fOrGG. He was soon forgotten, still not ready to live up to his destiny. sAviOr had chosen him, to lead a new era of the management style zerg. His lategame army and midgame defense would push the limit of what was thought possible.
Slowly, EffOrt became recognized by the public as a force in e-sports. He tossed aside weaker opponents, cleansing them of their sins. The zerg race was saved and EffOrt was worshipped.
"In case you haven't visited Brood War lately: Effort's record in the current SC season (PL R5, GOM S3, Avalon MSL, Bacchus OSL) is 25-3 — a ridiculous mark that is by far the best in progaming and amongst the most impressive hot streaks of all time. Since May's Power Rank, Effort has lost one game while reaching the Ro16 in all three Starleagues and averaging more than one win per CJ Entus Proleague match. Wait, what?

In the past month Effort has edged both of last season's most feared ZvZers, completed July's precipitous fall from OSL grace, and made everyone who picked a certain seven-point T1 player for their by.Fantasy Proleague team look pathetically uninformed. Though (unlike most other members of this rank) he's thus far avoided all four of the world's most-feared Terrans, satisfyingly straight-up wins over both Stork and Jaedong should be enough to convince even TL's most vicious skeptics that Effort is capable of destroying well-established members of StarCraft's elite. Given that he is dismantling every A-class player he faces with a perfect combination of surgical precision and Maestro-esque flair, Effort's eventual Starleague series opponents should desperately hope he's lying when he says "I think my games turn out better when I face top-class players".

EffOrt is the zerg messiah, the son of our lord Ma Jae Yoon. Perhaps he will never know an OSL Victory, or an MSL finals. Will he save us like Ma Bonjwa did? The maps in the OSL look good for his race. He is destined to bring it all the way, to win a championship, to cleanse the world of its sin. EffOrt is the successor not to a man, but to a god, and as such will become a god himself. Be warned, you might beat him, you might kill his confidence, but this is not a human. He will rise again, stronger than ever, and save us all
You'd have to be blind and deaf to not recognize Effort as a force to be reckoned. In a Zerg dominated world, it's easy to overlook one of the most promising and rising players in the scene.
One could say Jaedong has already reached his peak as a BW player. But can anyone say the same thing about Effort? I'd bet all my money he'll be the one leading the Zerg race in months to come. Not Calm, and - hell no - not Hyuk or Kwanro or Shine. It's Effort.
I know his nickname is due to the fact he's associated with Ma Jae-Yoon, but zergs have been doing well in the post-sAviOr era, so we don't really need a zerg "Messiah," am I right?

I'd say ZerO would be a strong contender for such a title.
Yeah effort is good but for me Zero > Effort... its just me, I cant see on effort the aura of the best zergs (yellow, savior and jaedong) I see effort like July... a awesome player and probably one of the best zergs ever, maybe he wins more titles than jaedong or savior but my love for him isnt going to be the same.

I overlooked Zero in my post, but I can't agree with Zero > Effort by any means. Zero is up there with Hyuk, Shine and Kwanro - he can probably be considered more stable than any of these players too - but I still think of him as someone who's a level below Calm, Effort and Jaedong.
Just throwing this out there, but Effort is 0-3 vs. Bisu and 1-6 vs. Flash. Nd if you don't count GOM, Jaedong is 5-1 vs. Effort. I think Effort's Leta. Can't beat anyone better than him but crushes everyone worse than him. Effort is an S- player along with fantasy and Stork. S class is still outta reach.
Effort is the reason I switched to CJ. Just seeing someone break away from the hyper aggressive trends that Jaedong initiated and going back to macro plays reminiscent of Savior just did it for me.

OMFG amazing! brilliant read. I really enjoyed even if somewhat short. If you're who think you are.. the person that has a livestream and we all kept saying "BRILLIANT PLAY BY SAVIOR!!!" yes, thats you? ^^

Stork is an s class player retard. He might not always play like one, but he is one.
And I don't get this whole messiah crap when zergs have been winning everything.

I bet if you forced Jaedong to play a more management heavy style he would do it better than Effort. + Show Spoiler +
It's really cold in this room so I figured I'd try and start a fire
There's like...nothing to save...during Savior's prime things looked seriously horrible for Zerg b/c of maps like Longinus and the Reverse Temple which strongly favored Terran...but right not it's Zerg's age...(half of OSL and MSL prelim survivors are Zergs...)
Effort's face looks pretty weird in that pic, but those jackets make up for it. If Effort can pick up his recent zvz play he'll really be a force to reckon with. Great article!
I like the duality of Jaedong being the Tyrant and Effort being the Messiah.
Too bad Jaedong is still kind of tyranting.
Kind of sad Flash has no real counterpart/mentor though. =\ Fantasy's whole "Crown Prince" Deal with boxer, Effort's Messiah with savior.
Though I guess the four kings or whatever (Flash/Stork/Bisu/Jaedong) are all amazing unto themselves and have no specific mentor to acredit like Effort and Fantasy.
Now that I think about it, I'm kind of wondering if having that mentor/mentee relationship, or at the very least that shadow, is what's stopped Fantasy and Effort from going all the way and truly coming out of their shell (Fantasy came close with PL finals but the stomping he had the following week at the hands of Jaedong deflated the crap out of it.)
No I get it. It's just that savior's "savior" from the beginning, his fan-given nick is maestro and tbh he earned it (and mafailstro lol).
I'll go with hawkeye (??) but this messiah business is just rofl more pun than truth. Bisu revolutionist, yea, Flash ultimate weapon, okay. Effort messiah...? Hes obviously a martian, the martian zerg. Check in his hair for antenna xD
Why did you choose a period of roughly 8 months rather than a more round number like 6 or 3? Are you trying to doctor stats maybe. (That's a bit more accusatory than I meant to be)
Remember there are 3 types of lies, lies, damn lies, and statistics.

True, but there are also lies, damn lies, and the fact that Effort rolled basically every Terran and Protoss he faced for the last 8 months, no matter how you wanna look at it.

And it's been discussed at a much greater depth in this article: TLFE - Heir Apparent
What people should be looking for is the successor to JD.
Jaedong was an heir to the title of "best zerg"
EffOrt is the heir to saviors spot on CJ and the heir to his management style. Stylistically, sAviOr and Jaedong aren't very similar. Great FE though, one of my favorites.
