I never look at the keyboard when playing... How do you do both? It seems that it would take an inordinate amount of time to look at the keyboard after doing anything You should be able to tell where you are on the keyboard due to the bumps on a couple of the keys (although I don't use that so much, I'm familiar with the distance between keys so I just use that in some cases).

Just do it over and over even when you're not in a game. Hell just do it in a word document or in the count down screen. Obviously not just mass bpbpbpbp but move your fingers quickly from your normal resting position, like on the # keys and quickly do bp accurately and just do that over and over. You master it pretty fast.

actually i just thought of something
just type with one hand whenever you post on teamliquid or something. you'll probably get used to where all the keys are pretty fast.

I hate it when I go to my gates and make a round of xxxxxxxxxxx or something instead of a round of zzzzzzzzzzz.
then I'm like lol where are my units?
Edit: or like on bnet with no lan lat and I realize im pressing the keys too fast while changing gates and it isnt registering. or like 1 gate is making 5 while 4 others do nothing
|
Heh, when i started playing, terran was so hard for me because the 'i' is so separated from the rest of the keyboard, my vultures and vessels would just end up patrolling ~.~
|
lol whenever i'm in the game lobby waiting for the host to go I always spam: 5sh6sh7sh8sh9sh0sh 5sd6sd7sd8sd9sd0sd 5sz6sz7sz8sz9sz0sz
after spamming that a few thousand times you remember how to do it without looking lol

Eh, it's not hard at all with a bit of practice. It helps a lot if you can already type without having to look.
The one problem I've ever had was with Terran. I would always queue up marines from 6+ rax only to see none of them flashing. Always turned out that I was pressing , instead of m

i have one of those desks where the keyboard rests under the top portion of the desk, so i cant see when i type normally, since my hands go under the desk basically.. it really helps for that.
also, i guess after 10 years of SC and war3, my muscle memory is so built up, least for zerg hotkeying.. my protoss is abit shaky, mainly the jump to P for probe and back to B for build, i hit V sometimes by mistake and get stuck in 2nd tier buildings and ugh thats lame.. for zerg its pretty automatic though.
|
lol when I play T I just smash the "uiop" area of the keyboard anytime I want to lay mines, siege tanks, or use irradiate. Most of the time the correct key is part of what I hit so it works ^_^

theres a keyboard that doesnt show the letters and stuff. you can toggle the characters on and off.
here it is + Show Spoiler +

i'm sure most people know about das keyboard. it's a mechanical keyboard that's $80+. in fact, most mechanical keyboards are at least 50 dollars and you can't toggle it on or off. what? the keys aren't little LED screens

I have the odd errors here and there, usually messing up i o and p. Sometimes i hit i for siege mode by accident, or o for laying mines by accident, and 60% of the time I press o instead of i for irradiate. Reeeeeeeeeally frustrating there..

Whats odd is I don't really look at my keyboard while I play (maybe I do out the corner of my eye or something o_O), but when I turn off my lights I misclick way more and have to actually look to hotkey stuff.

Some of the progamers put tape on certain keys on their keyboard so they can tell where their hand is. Looking down is going to slow you down for sure.

Actually I get this a tonne too, when I turn off the lights at night so I don't wake anyone up I play horribly because of this, so I bought a lamp for my desk which has had a noticable improvement
