A1: Hey, wie gehts dir! (Dativ for dir)
(No one says Mensch)
A1: Alles wunderbar, man. Sehr gut. (And no one really uses Banane either)

G1: Entschuldigung! Sprecht Ihr Deutsch? (corrected entschuldigung)

A1: Hallo! (ersten jetzt makes no sense)
A2: Ja, wir sprechen nur ein bisschen Deutsch. Aber wir versuchen es! (versuchen needs to relate to something)

G1: Ha! Sehr kool.
A2: Jawohl! Und alle Deutschen tragen nur Lederhosen. (made no sense really)

(Lachen)

(example of 1:1 translation, you wanted to write can I ask you some questions , doesnt work)
A2: Ja, können wir. Wir müssen eh unserer Deutsch üben! (practice = üben, eh for sounding better, but its informal, so don't use it in written German)
(die you translate will with will? Ich will = I want)

A1: Danke. Dann lass uns einen trinken? (I'm not sure if thats what you were trying to say here)

(Lachen)

A1: Was möchtest du in Deutschland?
(I don't even know how to explain this one since my last German lesson is far away. 'an die Universität' would mean that you will go there, while 'an der Universität' would mean that you are there)
A2: Cool, wir bisst Studenten auch UCLA.

G1: Was habt ihr als euer Häuptfacher? (2. Person Plural of haben -> habt)
A1: Ich studeire Politikwissenschaft.
A2: Ich studiere Mathematik. (Capitalize!)

G1:Gefällt euch das Studium? (Möchtet ihr studieren? would be a question for them if they would want to study, not how they like it)
(that was just messed up )

A2: Und was machst du so in deiner freien Zeit? (I had no clue what you meant, but the answer gave it away)
(words in wrong order)
A2: Hier machen wir das gleiche Zeug!

A1: Besuchst du Tanz-Clubs in Los Angeles? (sounds better)
G1:Ja, ich gehe manchmal. Aber ich habe eine Frage ...
A1: Sicher, frag bitte. (no need to make this more complitcated)

(you translated line , in this case its Warteschlange, second sentence had wrong structure and müssen fits better here)
A2: Ah, gute Frage!!
A1: Ja, hast du da eine Idee? Wir versuchen immer noch das zu verstehen.

(Lachen)

(in a friendly conversation you don't use Sie, you use du, one of the worst parts of German )
(the Fahrrad sentence was just a mess)

(wink)
A2:Ooh - ich muss nach Deutschland gehen. Es könnte meiner Situation helfen.(Lachen)
(Didn't really have a clue there, is A2 female and you wanted to simulate a flirt? Also you are making a lot of mistakes when building sentences with something called 'mehrteiliges Prädikat', take a look at this: http://www.canoo.net/services/OnlineGrammar/Satz/Satzglied/Praedikat/index.html )

Skit 2:

Planning a birthday party; roommates, sitting in their living room

B1: Birthday person
F1: Friend 1
F2: Friend 2

F1: Wohin gehst du? (wohin vs woher)

B1: Ich gehe zur Sporthalle.

F2: Ja, du mußt. (what?)

B1: Ha! Sehr lustig. (lots of mistakes)

F1: Wirklich?

F2: Entschuldingung! Wir haben Pläne an deinem Geburtstag! Was isst du zu Abend? Um wieviel Uhr??

B1: Hier in Westwood um halb-sieben. Ich esse gerne amerikanische Kusine (you just said that you like to eat american cousin, don't know what you tried to say, but you better correct this and replace Kusine with something you'd rather eat ).

(you make a lot of typical mistakes with sentence structure)

F1: Ich hoffe! Was wünschst du dir?

(I just assumed what you were trying to say and wrote it freely)

F2: Jawohl! Genau! (Jawohl is frequently used in the army, you better use something like 'ok' or 'klar' in common speech)

(B1 leaves)

F1: Schell! Mach die Tür zu! Ha! Gute Arbeit! Er hat keine Idee! Was für eine Überraschung!

F2: Machst du Gästeliste bis jetzt? I hoffe viele Mädchen kommen!

F1: Jungen! Ok, ja, I wollte viele Mädchen einladen!

F1: Perfekt! Ich auch bin dann auch zu Hause. Ich koche dann. Was sollen wir kochen?

F2: Kein Gemüse! Aber Kartoffeln, weil ich gerne Kartoffeln esse!

F1: Ok. Ich koche Kartoffeln. Kannst du Hamburger kochen?

F2: Jawohl, ich kann Hamburger und Pizza kochen. Kannst du am Dienstag einkaufen? Ich werde sein Geschenk kaufen.

F1: Was sollen wir ihm kaufen?

F2: Viele CDs?

F1: Perfekt! Sehr gut! ….. Ich sehe ihn! Er kommt zurück!

F2: Schnell! Schalt den Fernseher an!

(B1 enters)

B1: Hey Jungs, wie gehts? Was macht ihr?

F2: Oh, hallo! Wir sehen nur fern. Warum bist du zurück? (it is zurück, you made that mistake quite often)

B1: Ich habe meine Shorts und Turnschuhe vergessen. Ich kann ohne Klamotten nicht laufen! Ok, Tschüss

(B1) leaves

F1: Puhh!

Thats it, I corrected almost everything, even things like eww and phew. Didn't bother writing comments for everything I changed, you'll see yourself.

But if you use it like that your teacher will think that you are quite good at German, and you have to meet high expectations.

This one is the best post about it i guess.
Good luck with your thing !

The grade:

Overall Comprehensibility- 2/3 - mostly understood by instructor/ native speaker used by foreigners

Vocabulary- 2/3 some active vocabulary used

Pronunciation, stress, intonation- 2/3 can be understood but pronunciation is not clear in some p
laces, some stresses are wrong, intonation is correct most of the time

Student's comprehension of instructor's speech 2/3 understands partially
- WHAT THE FUCK DOES THIS mean. He didn't ask us anything at all or give us a speech of any sort.

Student's strategies- some use of repetition or clarification strategies 1/2
- WHAT THE FUCK. Our speech went smoothly without having to ask for clarification

Overall impression- 2/3 most of the task completed well

Bonus + 1 (not actually a fucking bonus as it adds to the total score)- an extra point for creative or particularly full responses; willingness to take risks; ability to "negotiate" meaning 0/1

Total score: 11/18

For doing a job that is mostly good, i get a 61 percent. fucking damn. I know I'm not an eloquent speech giver but this isn't a fucking theater class.

I now have to get about a 100% on the final to scrape an A-.

Whatever.. time to sleep this away before I chokeslam something

I think what you're talking about is

Sg. der Apfel (the apple)
Pl. die Äpfel (the apples) the ä somewhat pronounced like the first e in entertainment

And yes, it is a "Umlaut";

ae = ä

If you don't have the symbols for the "Umlaute" ä, ö, ü on your keyboard you can also write them as ae, ue, oe :p

like in Aepfel, Kueste, oestlich (have to say that it looks really stupid, but hey, at least it's correct )

There is no umlaut for e in German...I know it exists in some Eastern European country, or maybe in the Middle East, but not here.

As has been stated, the plural for Apfel is Äpfel.

If you ever need help, just PM me. I'm a native speaker, I should be able to help with most problems.

Props for even trying to learn german in the first place too. I know it can be a bitch to learn, even compared to most other languages. Off the top of my hat only Polish, Chinese, Finnish and Hungarian rank up there with German in terms of complexity. I bet Moltke would disagree, but what do I care?

Disagree with what? The notion that out of 7 000 languages in the world, only 4 languages are as complex as German?

p.s. Chinese is only difficult because it's alien. Chinese grammar is among the simplest grammars.

Moltke is absolutely right. I've learnt a little bit of Chinese myself and I must admit that Chinese grammar might be the easiest grammar I have encountered... English is quite easy, too, though.

It always depends on how well you intend to master a language. For example I find that when starting out with English, it's very easy to make fast progress, but it is very hard to master well (ie going beyond basic vocab, knowing fine nuances, etc). Even many natives don't manage for most of their lives ;-) With German it's much more difficult to start, but once you got over that I think you can progress faster.

I also agree that most Asian languages (the ones I am familiar are Chinese, Cantonese and Thai) are very easy to learn from a vocab/grammar point of view. For us westerners any language without an alphabet poses a big hurdle though, and intonation can also be an absolute bitch! E.g. I can sort of distinguish Thai's 5 intonations, but when it comes to cantonese ... no way.
