hmm i have to agree with most people, I think the Spanish I know really helped a lot in reading this. Anyone who has no background of Romance languages and only English... can you read it?

i could about 50-60 percent ot it.

english is a romance language, but it's a lot farther removed than most european languages, such as italian, french, or spanish.

English = germanic language (With lots of romance influences, mainly from French)

Dunno in how far this will work though. I guess it's aim is to become an international language, but it's so much easier to learn for people with a germanic/romanic language background than people whose native language is from another family. Taking that into account how usefull will it be. Speakers for whom this is easy to pick up live, probably, in countries where English/Spanish is taught in schools etc anyway. Also it's always questionable if a artificial language like this can become a native language (the answers is probably yes but I wouldn;t risk fucking up my children to find out)

okay okay maybe I'm biased because of my languages but you should still understand a lot of it

XFS, are you a french or flemish belge?

EDIT: and it was fairly comfortable to read.

Flemish. But I've been learning french since I was little because I live near Brussels.
I also know german, polish and ofc. english (and a little bit of 한극말 !)

To those saying it would never work as an international language or w/e. Ofcourse it wouldnt. People are too damn proud about their stupid language. But read this:

Finalmente, un interlingua pote esser un linguage abstracte intermediari usate in le traduction per computator de linguas human.

the grammar of this language is so damn easy that translation devices everywhere could be set to translating to and from interlingua

I think it's a lot closer to Italian than Spanish. Romanian is very similar to Italian so I got most of what it's saying.

I think it's pretty stupid. Keep refining current language translators instead of trying to make up some Frankenstein compromise. If someone used google to translate something from Spanish to English they'd understand more of it than trying to read this. It only helps if you already know a language that's similar.

Could you ever imagine speaking this? It would sound terrible.

your mind's gonna be like 'aw hell naw this is italian!' but just read the text and you'll understand like 90% of it :O

same concept as esperanto but much easier to learn apparently
and if you read it it says it could be used as an abstract inter-language for when computers are used as sentence translators, which has a lot of potential too I think

If i didnt have bases in latin, and french, this would be retarded to read.

fun none the less though

Perhaps you should actually read what I say
It'd go Spanish -> interlingua -> English and the same for any Language X to language Y
Not spanish -> interlingua and you figure out the rest. Did you miss the part where I said the grammar is really simple, thus making it easier on translation algoritms?

Understanding interlingua is another aspect of how handy this language is. Not the only aspect.

Why not use English as a metalanguage for translating purposes? English has quite simple grammar too, and is actually used by many people, so you could save one translation step in many cases. Quality will always decrease with each step. I'd much rather read Chinese>English than Chinese>Interlingua>English.

Interlingua is about 95% comprehensible to me, and is fun as a conlang, readable without any prior education, unlike say, esperanto. Unfortunately, I can't see much potential behind conlangs as living languages, simply because it lacks a fundamental cultural or historical basis. Test tube cultures will inevitably fail in the real world, regardless its theoretical merits.

I'd rather spend my time studying Latin than Interlingua, despite its greater difficulty

For speakers of Germanic languages, this website: http://www.tidingkonien.com/drupal/ is written in Folksprak, which is much lesser-known than Interlingua, but is based on the same principle:
God tidings! Ik ha nu min autostyrorkunde (licenc)!
Dis is min nywest auto. Ik ha wexeld ut min 96 Nissan Presea for dis lecker 97 Honda Logo. Ett is en manig kurter on' lejter auto ond ett is ser lejt to styre on' to parke. Ett ha en manig lytt'ler motor doch ett is unachted hastiger.
