hmm i have to agree with most people, I think the Spanish I know really helped a lot in reading this. Anyone who has no background of Romance languages and only English... can you read it?

I'm curious to see how everyone fares at this. If you just speak English, is it understandable? I barely got a sentence here and there. I can't speak Spanish, but since my dad's side of the family speaks it all the time I've picked up on some basic structures, honestly if it wasn't for that I probably wouldn't understand any of it.

English is not a romance language It's much for fun then any other language also i find most asian languages shouldn't rap it's cheating when outright all your words end with vowels. All langs are romantic when said right by the right person also

I'm only fluent in English (took some French when I was younger but remember almost nothing) and I can't understand very much. The first sentence is very clear, but I hardly understand any of the rest. I really think it's the close relation to Spanish that makes it so accessible for some people.
Edit: Wow, Korean, English and some Spanish? How many languages do you know??? :O
I'm also impressed with your commentating, it's really coming along. Keep up the good work.

EDIT: and it was fairly comfortable to read.

Some words are understandable, but I cant follow it.

My limited knowledge of French helped me get through it, though probably not as smoothly as those who know spanish.

I can read it, but i speak french and learned latin in school. Especially latin can be quite usefull if you want to read italien. But spoken italien is just a mess for me, i can't understand a single word

yeah, three years of Spanish makes that not a terribly difficult read. Also, English is absolutely not a romance language--it's Germanic in nature.

Huh. I always though that it was, but you are correct. It is a germanic language.

That being said, english borrows shamelessly from everywhere.

So my question for you guys is, did you read it in English or did you read it verbatim in Italian?
+ Show Spoiler + read it in English, the parts of it I could understand at least

I get the gist of most of it. My only language apart from english is Indonesian so yeah... Invented languages fail 99% of the time.

the origin of the english vocabulary is like 50% from romance languages. English borrowed extensively after 1066 from french, before that a little from latin and much later again from latin.
English is a western germanic language (as are german and dutch).

Most people know Spanish, French or Latin, so it should be easy to at least understand the general message in Interlingua, if not every single word. That's similar with any Romanic language though. I only speak Italian as a third language, and still I have no major problems reading French or Spanish (or Interlingua). Listening comprehension, active writing or speaking are another story of course.
