Slap down most of that into a GPU the rest into i guess and cheap amd mobo and cpu. dont bother with 4850 just get 50 bucks cheaper 8800gt But it is do-able. I take it your screen is small so it doesn't matter. yeah really, it all depends on whether you can reuse stuff from your old computer. OS will set you back a lot, if you need a new one. A new HDD isn't really needed either, unless yours is really really old, it deosn't make a big difference when gaming. If you can recycle your case too, 600 dollars will go pretty far. You could probably get 2.4ghz intel quad core, radeon 4870, P35 mobo, 450W+ power supply, and 4GB ram.

But it's been surprisingly cheap.. RMA of the PS for a newer, better model that's 500 W- $13 New Motherboard- $52 (and another $15 or so for shipping and thermal paste) New Ram, 800 DDR2- $25 (after a $13 rebate, and no shipping!) I could get a new video card for pretty cheap, and then I just need a processor (new motherboard supports Quad Cores and Core 2 Duos, old one didn't :d) and I've got a completely new computer (except the harddrive, but I have a 300 gb SATA one, so why would I need a new one? and I guess my dvd-rw drives are still there)! My old case is getting pretty beaten up from constant moving and having to open it up though. So neh. Also, for some really odd reason even though I'm using my old Pentium D 805 with the stock fan, the fan is like 5 times quieter. Either I did a poor job of putting it on the first time, or my case is much quieter when using a MicroATX board over an ATX one. I guess the power supply seems to be a lot quieter too. Nice fringe benefit I wasn't expecting, since my computer used to sound like an aircraft taking off at times...

IE: 80g hard drive at Newegg is $37 cheapest, but locally it would cost me over $70 easy. Same goes especially with memory, retail stores just love marking up the prices on those and suggest their computer-illiterate customers buy memory whenever they ask how they can make their computer run faster. Though I'm sure where you live matters quite a bit too because shit has to get shipped down to you. ![]()

It is applicable all the time, so why even say it. If he buys the same system for $200 later, he wouldn't even want that hardware anymore anyway since all the new stuff would be out. Tell us, when is there actually a time where you can buy PC hardware and not get screwed within a couple of months? It's unavoidable and the argument is completely pointless.

Yeah i mean unless your buying high end no need to wait the only reason why you would wait currently would be to buy the newer intel coming out in 2009. But i heard that the i7 7i? is gonna be super expensive to build. But you get a new socket really not realivent to 600$ system to those who spend 600$ on a cpu.

Well that argument does work for the folks who want a new computer for SC2 (there's been a few threads). No point in getting it til the beta comes out. ![]() I'd wait til you have another $200 or so to spend; I've found the best deals tend to be in the $800-1000 range. Or skimp on a part that's easily upgraded later. Your comp will last you a lot longer that way.

Well thats not what I imply, sorry if it seems like that. The way I think is that if I can get the same things for $200 less a few months from now, I can just wait a few months from now, since during that time I can get more money while the prices drop even further, thus getting a much better system. I mean if you want one now then yea feel free to get it. Also usually there are huge sudden price drops so usually its good to buy the parts right then, instead of waiting for the gradual decrease overtime.

![]() A little over $600, but I think money well spent to move up to Intel's fabulous E8500 processor with an equally fabulous P45 chipset.
