Did you just list the specific parts you are asking us to help you figure out? If you know what you want just start looking around and build your own PC.

actually I'll build you one right now, just a template so you have an idea of whats possible and readjust accordingly. + Show Spoiler + $42 Some cool cases with good airflow and looks $60 250GB SATA HDD $275 E8400 CPU with decent ASUS mobo $25 Heatsink for CPU $140 ATI HD4850 (the catch is that it comes with WoW, so you might look for other alternatives.) $78 2GB PC2 9600 RAM $23 DVD Burner, I only included one, if you want to get another then get one with similar specs and prices, preferably not the same one. $70 700W Powersupply does not support crossfire, this is one of my favorite brand, I have the 750W version, love it. and then throw in some other stuff you want, like more fans. Total: $713 after rebate, and these are regular prices, not on sale. Like I said, this is just a quick template in 10 minutes, make some adjustments to fit your needs.

Else for 600 bucks in gaming terms. Slap down most of that into a GPU the rest into i guess and cheap amd mobo and cpu. dont bother with 4850 just get 50 bucks cheaper 8800gt But it is do-able. I take it your screen is small so it doesn't matter.

I did tell him to adjust accordingly.

Also not a thing as too much power tell that to my electric bill. Screw a cheap power supply get a reliable one that is more tune for the power you need. Hell i run 4 sticks of ddr2 ram 3 hdd's an old amd cpu 125w a 8800gts sound card and 2 dvd drives. include my wifi card and all i need is my 610w power supply from pc power and cooling. Here is my take on it It would be better but throw in case dvd drive little things like that take up a good share of the cost. If i included a os really couldn't do shit then. 608 after tax and shipping ![]()

But who cares not like any real games use open gl. They are practically the same in performance

Power supplies are made to be most efficient at certain loads, so a 700W for a system that never needs more than 200W is going to be pretty inefficient.

I take it your screen is small so it doesn't matter. yeah really, it all depends on whether you can reuse stuff from your old computer. OS will set you back a lot, if you need a new one. A new HDD isn't really needed either, unless yours is really really old, it deosn't make a big difference when gaming. If you can recycle your case too, 600 dollars will go pretty far. You could probably get 2.4ghz intel quad core, radeon 4870, P35 mobo, 450W+ power supply, and 4GB ram.

But it's been surprisingly cheap.. RMA of the PS for a newer, better model that's 500 W- $13 New Motherboard- $52 (and another $15 or so for shipping and thermal paste) New Ram, 800 DDR2- $25 (after a $13 rebate, and no shipping!) I could get a new video card for pretty cheap, and then I just need a processor (new motherboard supports Quad Cores and Core 2 Duos, old one didn't :d) and I've got a completely new computer (except the harddrive, but I have a 300 gb SATA one, so why would I need a new one? and I guess my dvd-rw drives are still there)! My old case is getting pretty beaten up from constant moving and having to open it up though. So neh. Also, for some really odd reason even though I'm using my old Pentium D 805 with the stock fan, the fan is like 5 times quieter. Either I did a poor job of putting it on the first time, or my case is much quieter when using a MicroATX board over an ATX one. I guess the power supply seems to be a lot quieter too. Nice fringe benefit I wasn't expecting, since my computer used to sound like an aircraft taking off at times...

IE: 80g hard drive at Newegg is $37 cheapest, but locally it would cost me over $70 easy. Same goes especially with memory, retail stores just love marking up the prices on those and suggest their computer-illiterate customers buy memory whenever they ask how they can make their computer run faster. Though I'm sure where you live matters quite a bit too because shit has to get shipped down to you. ![]()

Yeah i mean unless your buying high end no need to wait the only reason why you would wait currently would be to buy the newer intel coming out in 2009. But i heard that the i7 7i? is gonna be super expensive to build. But you get a new socket really not realivent to 600$ system to those who spend 600$ on a cpu.

Well that argument does work for the folks who want a new computer for SC2 (there's been a few threads). No point in getting it til the beta comes out. ![]() I'd wait til you have another $200 or so to spend; I've found the best deals tend to be in the $800-1000 range. Or skimp on a part that's easily upgraded later. Your comp will last you a lot longer that way.

Well thats not what I imply, sorry if it seems like that. The way I think is that if I can get the same things for $200 less a few months from now, I can just wait a few months from now, since during that time I can get more money while the prices drop even further, thus getting a much better system. I mean if you want one now then yea feel free to get it. Also usually there are huge sudden price drops so usually its good to buy the parts right then, instead of waiting for the gradual decrease overtime.
