I'm invoking the power of TL that is a vast sea of knowledge. Next week, I'm going to karaoke with a girl I like along with a bunch of friends. What are some good songs to sing for karaoke? Both male & females songs are okay for me as well.
Basically I'm looking for two types of songs: exciting, party songs that everyone knows and enjoys singing along and slower, more romantic(?) songs. Possibly some popular duets?

Backstreet Boys - I want It That Way. It's a favorite amongst me and my friends. Basically any of the *Nsync and Backstreet Boys songs are popular to them -_-;;. Some others might be Elton John - Can You Feel The Love Tonight 9 Days - Absolutely (Story of a Girl) Brian McKnight - Back At One
I'd never go for anything with fast lyrics, because they tend to sound terrible when kareoked.

If you've got the vocal strength for it, anything by Fly to the Sky would be great (Tomorrow, Gaseum Apado, Blood, Angel). Its a two-person group, so duets should be possible (if you both know Korean).

Well, I know korean but I'm the only person who does in the group that's going to karaoke (my residence floor from uni). Plus, it's a girl I want to sing a duet with, not a guy P
While I enjoy listening to great bands like Fly to the Sky (I listened to "You are my Angel" a lot in the past), I have a lot of trouble singing their songs >_<; For some reason, my voice seems better suited to sing female songs o.o; When I sing normally, my voice is too low so it sounds bad when I'm trying to sing the low notes. Hope you know what I mean ~_~
Seems to match what you said about your vocal range :p
I love this song ~<3 I have to sing SunMin's part too (since I'm the only Korean) and her part is doable for me but it kind of pushes my limits lol

I'm preparing for the worst case scenario that the NRB doesn't have korean songs (last one I went to with my floor didn't). So while I do have some korean songs that I enjoy singing, I'm trying to increase the # of songs I can sing just in case ^^ I know most of those bands/groups/artists and I like everyone that I know ^^

Trust me. Your low and middle registers are just fine. You sound the best singing "normal".
Your higher register picks up a nasal tonality though and lacks in tone as you add power, so I'd recommend staying away from the chick songs unless they're fairly monotone and you know which key to request (I dunno, never been to karaoke, I assume you can request key changes though...). Singing a sub-octave on chick songs can sometimes be strenuous, but works well on others, depending on the vocal range of the female singer.
I'd recommend you to stick to songs with a low range span though, whether it be chick/dude.
I thought the "A Whole New World" song suited you well, especially the lower parts.
Don't know what to recommend though. Don't sing much popular music. Ronan Keating, Robbie Williams, Elton John etc have a couple of songs spanning a lower range though. Nothing at all, she's the one, your song...
My best advice is just to keep it simple. Usually sounds good when you do.

Thanks for the detailed advice I've been trying to improve my vocal range (and I have over the past couple of years) but it's unrealistic to be able to do it in less than a week. So I'll stick to lower ranged songs.
Btw, does anyone know how to utilize this so-called "head voice"?
