If your thing is open-source, you can't stop them from featuring you. Sure they could do a better version, but the point is, they haven't done it yet, no one has done it now. From a business perspective, if you get there first, and get your name on the idea of "StarCraft Terran Mod = Jukado (or CA or w/e)", you'll have much more credibility and respect. Another thing you should really try is contacting TSCMOO to see if you can make a custom tileset in OpenBW (open source yo). You'd know the details more than me, but presumably, the game could run faithfully using the replay's original tileset, but the visual display of each tile is customized. Get a tileset drop-down menu going. | ||

When I release more stuff, I will make a proper thread in the forum rather than use blogs most likely. One of the reasons Ive been reluctant to is because Im not sure if teamliquid might claim ownership of stuff I release if I do it on this website. Especially now that the site has new owners. If someone from teamliquid reads this, please do get in touch with me. I would like to discuss about some sort of guarantee that I can post Star Tale stuff here on the teamliquid forums without it becoming the property of teamliquid. Not sure who to PM about this. Anyway, onto your message. Just to be clear; Star Tale is not a tileset, its a wider project. I made the tileset completely separately, and specifically for OpenBW. Me and imp42 have been talking privately for several months, thats how I was able to release the tileset in the same week OpenBW was publicly announced. Star Tale is something Ive been working on for much longer. Im releasing all my stuff into the public domain. So when I learned of OpenBW and made the tileset for it, I decided to also release it into the public domain. By the way you mentioned "open source". I want to point out Star Tale is public domain which is different to open source. Its much better, both for the public and for 'greedy' big business. This is an important distinction to make. Regarding approaching the starcrafts mod team: First I think it would be good to get a more concrete thread going with some details. Its probably a little early for trying to court mass exposure. Im going for a grass roots style build up at the moment. But after that, yeah its actually a really good idea. Thanks for suggesting it, maybe I will. If Star Tale was just a tileset I think it would make more sense to approach the starcrafts mod team. I am uncomfortable approaching them though because our goals are so far apart and really I dont think they would be interested in covering my stuff anyway (because Star Tale isnt just a tileset, essentially that is a separate thing altogether). Star Tale is more about a sci fi parallel universe and a bunch of game mechanics and rules. (think warhammer 40k rulebook or Dungeons and Dragons rules). And Star Tale is about the real world too, business practices, long term goals, responsibility etc. I dont have time right now to go into 'micro transactions' and mods and kickstarter and all of those kind of things, but I am very passionate about them. Ive spent a lot of time thinking about them and devised several schemes that I think will improve the current situation. So, Im not really interested in starcraft2 because it is closed source etc but I am much more interested in OpenBW. Thats why I made the tileset to try and support it. OpenBW is ticking along nicely, its an amazing project and Im very excited about it. You will be able to use some crazy graphics if you want to. We need to stand up for our privacy against mass data collection and spying. There can be benefits from big data though. So we need to give people the choice of what they share, and who can access that information. And we need to have some fun too, by playing cool sci fi games!
