Skipped Day Two for two reasons.

One was that nothing really eventful happened aside from general practice against the computer,
and the other is because I didn't have much time to type an entry. I was supposed to play in a practice game with some members of a clan i joined, but it turns out we're playing Archon. I don't have any interest in the mode whatsoever, so I didn't participate. Plus today wasn't exactly a good day irl anyway so I really didn't want to interact with any more people than I already had to.

For my practice regimes, I've been doing two types: speed building by myself, and practice building against the computer on Elite mode. Yesterday consisted of Elite practice, today consisted of speed building.

For Elite, I play against Protoss, who builds economy and builds Stalkers and Colossus.
While I have been getting my ass kicked in the mode, I think it is helping alot; its forcing me to think more about my unit composition, as well as how to defend my bases. Still, I have yet to take a game from it.

For speed building, I have been going with these benchmarks:

6:00 - Second Base
12:00 - Third Base
17:00 - Fourth Base
22:00 - Fifth Base

At first I had quite the hard time doing it, however I am finding that I'm getting closer to getting it right. Doing this practice is really forcing me to think ahead when it comes to building. Keep in mind that I am not practicing a certain build order; I'm simply trying to pump out as many units and build as many structures as i can.

Another benchmark that I have is to aim towards reaching max supply by the 17:00 minute mark. Thankfully this hasn't been as difficult; by that point I already have a large number of rax, starports and factories pumping out units.

Part of this practice also involves making sure that I spend as little time as possible supply blocked, while also making sure not to spam supply blocks simply because I am getting supply blocked. The goal of this is so that I can slowly gain more knowledge of supply usage, and know how much supply i should have relative to the number of buildings that I have.

I am however beginning to find a problem that is hampering my ability; I take far too much time setting up my hotkeys. This is all fine when I have one base, 2 rax, a factory and a starport, but once I get to my second and third base I spend quite a few seconds trying to navigate around my base, shift clicking all my production units to one control group. Sometimes I even accidentally put them in the wrong control group and have to spend a few seconds fixing everything back. Those few seconds add up to my production facilities standing quiet and my bank reaching 1k. I need to find some way to speed up my hotkey procedure.
Another problem I also notice that I'm doing is not using the mini map to find my way around my bases. I continue to scroll slowly by just putting my mouse to the end of my screen. I have to remember to put a mental stop whenever I'm looking for something to use the minimap to find my way around.
Overall I do feel as though I'm making small improvements here and there, but a big problem still seems to be getting accustomed to the interface. Hopefully once the weekend comes and I'm free work to practice more, I can do some more seriously focused practice and see some better improvement.

Not sure if you know this, but double clicking (or control clicking) at unit/structure will select all items of that same type on the screen.

Example: you have marines and marauders jumbled together and you only want to select the marines. Double click a marine (or control click a marine) and all marines on screen will be selected.

This will help you with hotkeying. So lets say I'm adding more raxes -> control click any barracks on screen and all (including the new ones) are selected. Then I just add them to the current hotkey (shift+[hotkey#]).

It is good you are using hotkeys! There are also what are called 'location hotkeys'. Instead of hotkeying units/buildings, these hotkey a location on the map. The default for these are F5 and upwards but I personally find it awkward to reach. I remapped mine to F1-F4.

You can start with adding a location hotkey at each expo location (I do this at the beginning of the game where there is less to do). So say F1 is main base, F2 is natural (or natural ramp), F3 is third base. This way if I need to get to any base quickly, I just hit the relevant hotkey and it instantly takes my screen there.

Keep in mind that I am not practicing a certain build order; I'm simply trying to pump out as many units and build as many structures as i can.

This is a good approach. This will take you far in developing your mechanics, then when you start to learn build orders, they will be a lot more useful. Most build orders inherently assume you are building workers and army nonstop. Many times new players are too focused on trying to hit the build orders specifically and end up banking tons of money where just more of anything would've helped them.

I read your day 1 blog and you said you've only been playing SC2 for a few weeks? SC2 was my first RTS ever and it took me many months before could barely beat the Hard/Very Hard AI. Its good you are playing against Elite! Good luck and keep at it and make sure you're having fun

Let us know your progress and ask any questions in your blogs... I'll try to check back on your new ones if you keep writing.

Edit: Other random tips:
- One base supports approx 3 rax production or 1 rax + tech buildings (1 rax/1 fact/1 starport)
- You can take your first expand off 1 rax then go up to three. As long as you bunker up and make sure your first rax (and subsequent ones) has constant production you should be able to hold off the first push.
- On 2 base try for 5 rax + fact + starport (add your 3rd after this)
- On 3 base have 8 rax minimum. If you find yourself short of money you are not making enough workers. If you find yourself floating money you are missing your production cycles. It is ok to add more rax.
- Against colossus you really need vikings. It is difficult to try to fight them with pure marine marauder (even against the computer) if you are not comfortable with microing.
- Put a single marine outside the protoss base so you know when they are coming out to attack you. This will help you with not getting caught off guard. Dont forget to replace him after each attack.
- 16 workers per mineral line up to 3 bases. Don't go up to the 24/24 noted by the on screen counter.
- Make sure your game play settings are optimal:
1) have the game timer on
2) have the build grid on
3) have the worker counters on
4) have flying unit indicator (flyer helper?) on
5) life bars /energy bars should always be on (more a preference but generally the consensus).
