My stomach is healing up nicely. My mental state is my biggest concern. There is just a lot to deal with right now and having to drop two of my three classes when I was getting straight a's was probably the biggest let down for myself. It just seems every time I try to finish it, something ends up happening with this stupid disease. That and the withdrawals from the medicine, my anxiety is through the roof...It's just a lot to take in right now. Reading this stuff helps though. I love you guys.

On the painkillers end, my father is an anesthesiologist, and from stuff he's told me, (I am no doctor to be clear) they don't like giving out painkillers because they are highly addictive. Its not a faux pas to give them to people in the hospital, especially if they are in pain, but giving them frequently is not preferable because they can lead to dependency. This didn't seem to be one of those times though, since you were in 10/10 pain which calls for high level pain killers. I am so sorry you had to go through that dude, you deserve much better than that treatment .

Because the medicine he got Dilaudid ( Hydromorphone ) is iirc around 30x stronger than morphine and work on the opiate receptors in a slightly different way. I was going to write a blog response to this but I might as well just post it here. I have written a few blog posts on my life and illness but never quite my experiences in hospitals. Miniguns experience isn't unique and happens quite often. I am a bit older than him I believe I am 29 and have had chronic Pancreatitus since I was 15. I have had multiple surgeries and procedures including a month long stay in the hospital when I got a blood clot in my lung because of my port a catheter ( basically a permanent IV site in my chest for easy access that runs up into my jugular vein.) And even when you have a legitamite reason to get pain medicine doctors are scared or dont care. Then nurses are understaffed and have to deal with shit all the time. I have waited 16 hours in a ER to just see a doctor in pain crying on the floor ( I suggest you dont go to The University of Cincinnati Hospital ER) I have waited much longer than minigun to get meds already orderded by a doctor. And I have even had a nurse refuse to inject me because she thought I was getting to much medicine. Its been 14 years since I have been sick. I have been in and out of hospitals for close to half my life now. My pain tolerance is huge I broke my ankle a few years ago and the doctor told me he didnt think my ankle was broken because I didnt look to be in pain. I get huge doses from the few doctors that know me. After 14 years I have gotten to know quite a few of them. I just wanted to back up his story. I have more to say and it is like this all over the world I have been in ERs in 3 different countries and almost all are the same understaffed and nervous about giving pain medicine even with a legitimate need for it. Anyway get better. Hope you feel better.

I've had some anxiety issues in the past, definitely something you can't just get over. I always told myself things could always be worse, and eventually things did get a lot better, with some luck and hard work contributing of course. Good Luck!! ♥

But you have to realize that with some diseases, you are going to be miserable. There's no getting around it. Pain meds can get you addicted and (believe it or not) in a worse condition in less than a year. Especially morphine. They can also interfere and combine with the other drugs you are taking (you mentioned one) and screw you up in that way. I'd be feeling just as terrible as you were I'm sure but still, show some respect for the nurses/doctors. Mothers go through childbirth with horrible pain still to this day for a reason. Do not demand drugs vehemently, just keep telling the doctors/nurses if you're suffering. It's their area of expertise, not yours. There was no interference with any drugs I was taking. Crohn's disease has a decent quality of life once it's controlled. I don't have to be miserable... I do however have massive amounts of respect for nurses/doctors. Most have extremely long shifts, and do amazing things for many people. 50% of my nurses there were amazing, and I requested them every time I had a chance. 50% however were awful. It's not not respecting them, they were just awful at their job. Yeah I'm sorry but simply saying "hey guys I'm still in some pain and suffering a bit", WILL GET YOU NO WHERE. I learned this. They do not know how much pain you are in, only you do. You have to be your own advocate. If you are not happy with the pain meds they are trying to give you, you have to be vocal. If it had been up to them I would have been on oral dilauded for the majority of the time there, which did not even touch my pain. I don't know if it's because my gut wasn't digesting, or if everything was just sitting in my stomach (I threw up large amounts of pure liquids a few times) and that's why oral meds didn't work well or what.... Sure mothers go through childbirth with horrible pain. My nights composed of staring at the clock to see when two hours was up so I could get another dilauded shot, I slept in one hour and 1/2 blocks, because that's how long the pain med lasted for. My tolerance for pain is not low, I have had severe crohn's disease for four years and taken 0 pain pills for it other than Tylenol. I am not new to pain. I think that is horrible advice you are giving. They don't know what you feel. Pain meds are there to prevent you from suffering, and some nurses were denying me relief, from what was the worst pain of my entire life.

Having to go through what you did on top of what I have, I can't even imagine. You are a very strong person Chad and you will do great things over the course of your life. Keep your chin up, this was just a setback. Hoping that you'll feel better soon, Stephen.
