For someone living with a Japanese national outside Japan this is a real and troubling issue. Men/women have little to no recourse if their partner decides to go back to Japan with the children, and Japanese people know it.
This is less of a problem for people who live in Japan, usually. Those that have residence status through work, or take the time to get permanent resident status aren't affected if a relationship goes sour. Those "in-betweeners" that are on a spousal visa are at risk though. That is why anyone staying long term needs to have the protection of permanent residency.
Unless you hate your kids.

You know how I know this is true? When you called getting banned unfair, even though you have been warned/banned for the exact same thing multiple times. Your behaviour doesn't change (being a jerk/balance whine) the results don't change (get heartbroken/get banned) and your blame assessment doesn't change (fucking Japan/fucking mods).
But how about them tasty ramen noodles, amirite?
On May 10 2013 16:34 GhostOwl wrote:Why are you picking a fight with me? If you look at my most recent ban, it was a joke post, but the mod took it too seriously and thought I was complaining. Given my history, I'd say it's fair, but if it really was balance whining, I would have wrote out a detailed explanation to try to convince others. Using the TL ban example to imply that my heartbreak is deserved is a real classy move, even from you. I also don't see why you try to say I have no game from my TL postings. Why is a married man talking about game anyway? Or does it sting you because you want to believe your Japanese wife will/won't cheat on you? Anyway, if you have nothing kind to say, please don't say it. P.S. I believe I do have game: + Show Spoiler +Every dot except 2 was a date.

OP got smoked. Then proceeds to abandon thread. Best thread of the month! I laughed! I cried! Thank you so much Mani!

Ok, imagine for a minute that the same thing was said about Americans?
I'll just save you guys a non-pathos rant, and give you a simple, yet true story. I know a guy who married a woman that he met in university. Same university I went to. They got married in China (He was half Korean, she was full-blown Chinese, came from a family in china, etc.). The total time they knew each other before divorce: 5 years. Give or take. Of course the situation is more complicated than I make it sound, but was there no love, trust, or understanding between the two of them?
She got the kid when the divorce court was all over and done with, and thankfully, China still allows parents visitation rights, and has a divorce court system that is similar to that of America's - allowing shared residence for the Child. What is the point of me saying this? This can happen with any woman, regardless of nationality. I am simply trying to highlight the one and only situation that might set his apart from other countries in the near future.
Overall, I see things like "Texting is more important a form of communicating here in Japan." for example... when we're comparing G8 member states, I dont think we really need to compare anything. You compare this form of communication with your average Kenyan (who I imagine couldn't afford a cell phone), however, well, I think it would make more sense. I lived in China for over a year, I lived in Taiwan for 4 months. I'll be going to Korea next semester if my mother's health is fair enough. If anyone even begins to think for a minute that I am a different personality simply because I am a Caucasian, then I will immediately stop talking to them. Hell, sometimes I was in Taiwan and I would go to a place and I order food and I would get pissed when people think I don't speak Mandarin.
Overall, I'm just thinking that perhaps, just perhaps the OP should simply change the circle he's hanging with... Then again, I could see where some elements of this society have been normalized with media... I studied contemporary Japanese history with the semester that just passed.

I was having a bad day until I read this blog while suffering from insomnia in bed.

probably not? i mean, they had a divorce. there was clearly something wrong with the relationship that they could not resolve.

well yeah, so we agree then. your original post made it sound like japanese women will steal your children.

wait what? off topic? i don't see how this is relevant at all... but to respond anyway, why would you get pissed that people assume you don't speak chinese? it's a perfectly normal assumption. most white people don't speak chinese, so of course when i see a white person, i would assume they don't speak chinese.

1. I'm actually Korean American, I'm not some "entitled white kid" I've had to struggle with discrimination and racism all my life growing up in southern Georgia, so I'm actually the most far away from entitled you can get.
2. I didn't abandon thread
3. You guys really love sucking up to Mani don't you? He said he married, so he "wins" the game but technically if you're married, you quit the game. The game is picking up many women, not settling down with one. But go ahead and keep kissing his feet.
Anyway, I never came to Japan for this reason anyway. I didn't even try to talk about this subject until Mani started harrassing me. There are things about Japan that I like and dislike, and would love to talk about it in blogs instead of trying to defend myself against a classy mod and a group of his fanboys.

The game is a PUA term / hustling term and that's not about trying to meet your soulmate.
