I just thought it was funny how they actually meant something at some point. On May 08 2013 15:07 GenesisX wrote: thank you for writing this blog. I always find it very interesting reading about other people's aspiration to become pro-gamers. I too wanted for a few years to be a pro-gamer ever since Starcraft 2 came out. I was never under diamond rank in 1v1 even at launch of the game where diamond was the highest rank. I played every weekend and grinded over 3k-4k games on my main account to date. I really commend you to sticking to it because I eventually stopped trying maybe this time last year (just play casually now). Like many in the thread have mentioned, it is incredibly difficult to break out as a pro-gamer and also extremely risky. If you do decide to continue this pursuit I strongly suggest you have a back up plan other than finishing your GED (which I just quickly wikipedia'd so dunno if I have the right understanding of this lol... apparently its usa/canada high school equivalency?) Still, I admire your ambition. Hope we match on ladder sometime ![]() GED is the equivalent of a HS diploma. I'm working on getting a job right now. I believe it will only be part time though and at nights so I will still be able to play sc2 a lot. Maybe one day we'll run into each other on ladder ;

You went through hardships,. so it is nearly a wonder, that you have a spirit and heart left in yourself, to do what you enjoy doing. Many people would've been broken at this point. Important is, that you love the game, because without this love & passion, you'll soon become burnt out. No doubt you know this, though. Also, make sure you at least have some "safety-net", in case it doesn't work out. This is a difficult quest you've chosen for yourself. ![]() And don't let anyone here or anywhere else to talk you out of this; there were mostly positive comments, but still, you'd only regret it later, that you haven't even tried. Best of luck! ![]()

It was easy, and took iirc, less than 5 months of 10 games a day. However, pro gaming has never crossed my mind. Only a small percentage of top players make more than the average graduate, and that usually happens for a short period of time when the metagame was in their favour. My point is, someone in your situation should not pursue this profession where less than 5% earns more than minimum wage. You took way to long to get to where you are right now (master) and probably won't ever make it to the top. Even if u are promoted to GM, which isnt that hard if u play as much as you claim to, you"ll realise that there's a big difference between GM and pro-gamer. I've seen alot of aspiring pro gamer posts and even though I know they would go on to waste years of their youth(and they usually do), I've always refrain from posting. Even when most kids on TL jump on the "Goodluck", "This guy is good" bandwagon, I usually just laugh it off as youth and naive. This time though, I just want to say that it would break my heart to see my single mum receiving charity and working her ass off so I can wake up at 2pm everyday to watch "Korean progamers". Especially when I'm 19 years old and perfectly capable of making life alot easier for her.

Also, I never said my mom was receiving charity so you're going overboard. I am currently in the process of getting a job right now, and my mom just recently got promoted at hers. Maybe you should ask a few questions first before you make your divine judgement. Your first questions could be: Hey, why haven't you gotten a job yet? Simple, No one wants to hire a person without a diploma. The jobs that will hire you without a diploma (construction, maintenance, janitor, etc..), require some type of reliable transportation (which I do not have). Why did you lose your first job then? Go back to the bottom of the first page. Why have you been playing for so long, yet you're only Masters? Honestly, ladder sucks. I don't like to ladder. I will play 30 games straight with FXOJimRiSing or FXOTheoRy all day np, but ladder is just annoying to play on.
