Since Bernanke spoke of the "fiscal cliff" America was headed to, the media started bringing it up. The more time went on, and the more they focuses on it. The media keeps putting it out there, reminding the world so many times every minute that the American economy is going to get fucked at once by all NFL, NBA, NHL, and even E-sports team out there. Jokes, EGG FUCKING YOKES COOKED SCRAMBLED STYLE.
There was an announcement a few years ago about how the Panama Canal is going to be expanded. This means that Houston, which is in Texas for you non-'MURICANS. FUCK YEAH!, which is also the 15th largets eco. in the world, is going to have to adjust to the amount of traffic that will be available come 2016~. Recently, very recently, there was an announcement on how America will become the number one oil exporter in the world.
The American GDP growth rate is very small, but we have the largest GDP in the world. Our bonds are bought by China, who eases their currency in order to do so. This is why interest rates are so low; they buy our debt. Along with the announcement of America becoming the number one oil exporter in the world, Asian countries like China will increase the imports from America.
I don't get why anyone would be worried. It seems America will be entering another golden age. Doomsday preppers are funny to laugh at, though. (People who are prepared for an emergency are one thing, but people who truly believe in shit like FEMA camps, bigfoot, and China/Russia invading America)
(Egg yokes.)

Since America's GDP growth is small, doesn't that mean other countries will catch up quite easily given time?

We have the largest GDP in the world. This means we add about 350b/y to our GDP. The only other country that comes close is China, and that's 330b/y. They have four times our growth in terms of %, as well.
It's only small in terms of %, not in actual value.

Did you notice something that changed over the last month? -Republican Hate Hype Machine went into delusional overdrive -The racist ads making China look like action movie villains disappeared -Republicans started saying the words fiscal cliff as quickly and often as they could
It's just noise.

I never bought into the doom and despair prophecies about the future of America.
If there is any doom and gloom to be found, it would be here in Europe.
You're wondering if the growth is fast enough. We are occupied with trying to keep the economy from shrinking. America is going to be just fine.

'MURICANS. FUCK YEAH!
Whenever i see people say that it disgusts me. It makes people sound as if they have a speech impediment, or are just plain stupid. In addition, i think its offensive to people with real impediments!
I wish i could read it but seeing that typed out turns me off. 0/5 for stupid phrasing!

You should get high before you explode from being wound that tight rofl (spoiler alert- people that say MURICA are having a laugh. it's kind of frightening that you can't as well)

My only significant worry about the "fiscal cliff" is that, assuming both sides show continue to show the level of cooperation I expect out of two toddlers trying to "share" one super special binky, it could significantly pose a direct impact to my personal financial situation. All of the budget hoops and shut down talk and associated posturing, grand standing, obstructionism, whining, gnashing of teeth, qq'ing, etc, has already had an impact in that it prevents the already slim chance of any pay raises I might see.
(Yes, I work for Uncle Sam. No, I'm not on the GS scale.)
All of the above being said, though, I can't really complain too much. I am paid decently (better than I would expect to make in my field in the private sector), I have reasonable benefits, and while I can't afford to subscribe to all of the leagues and such that I would want to see StarCrafts wise, I don't worry too much about finding myself unable to eat or pay the rent. With the number of people for whom that is a significant concern, I can't find it in myself to be too worried about my own first world problems. I've lived on the street, slept in a car containing all of my belongings, and had to figure out how best to wring nutritional value out of $3 - it's not something I would wish for anyone anywhere. (Well, except maybe for the truly evil people of the world - and even then I think that's too much. And there are a lot fewer truly evil people than we usually assume.)
