So I'm a TL member for 6 active years now, and I hardly can pass a day / hour without visiting TL. I know it sounds normal for many people, but I have to stop for the sake of studies. I dont play sc2, I hardly watch games except for big tournament weekends and often then only results. Though I don't mind taking a long break, though it's so hard. I follow results religiously and comments in threads and live reports. It takes up time. This weekend Thorzain inspired me in his interview from Dallas to try cut out TL. Many of you prolly know how I feel and have been there.

Any practical / mental tips for stopping / reducing time spent on TL?

A ban won't block him from reading TL.

Well even if I get banned I can still visit the site? I have done that once and I still spent hours here.
This whole topic sounds weird and I'm probably exaggerating a little. Can't believe this is a problem of mine :p

Okay, so, First off I can totally understand where you are coming from. Being able to have self control, or at least the knowledge that you can control it if you want to, is a comforting feeling to have. If i were you, I would do this only in your mind. What I mean by that is, I dont think you should block, or even get your self temp-banned from TL. What you should do is any time you find yourself wanting to go to TL or actually visiting the site, do something else, and make that a "specific" something else. Like, think maybe that "Anytime I feel the urge to go to TL, I'm going to play a game of Starcraft instead". This way, it gives you a buffer of time to take TL off your mind, as well as letting you do something else. Also, I would take any links/bookmarks/extensions for TL off your browser, just so the available urge is a little less sudden. Good Luck!

I have this exact same problem. So one day each week (I do Fridays), I ban myself from TL. No visiting TL for any reason period. (although the reason I do this is for fasting, it's still pretty much the same concept)

I feel your pain, and am hopelessly addicted to browsing TL, something made all the worse by virtue of my having to work from home. This darn "time management" thing sure is a bitch!

For this kind of thing, I don't think going cold turkey is the best option, just slowly change your TL browsing habits. Work hard and you'll be able to do it, if you start to slip too much it's over. I am doing this with having to drink while eating, and is working, now I don't feel the urge to drink whenever I bite something, if you can kill the urge it gets easy.

I felt the same thing for a while, but I knew that quitting TL would not stop me to procrastinate so I may as well spend time on a quality website.

Go for a temp ban, go for a week, don't go for a perma. Not being on TL won't stop your procrastinating though, it will only treat symptom.

System32 file deleted

Also isnt there some sort of 3rd party software that blocks websites?
Put a password on that, and then ask someone you trust to lock webs.

Or to be honest, you're whole account if you're studiyng.

Only proven way to break someone's TL addiction is to give them staff responsibility.

Of course, sometimes that has the opposite effect...

Christian. I was clearly spending too much time on TL and StarCraft in general, and then I heard a sermon on fasting, so that seemed like the perfect solution.

I admit, it isn't easy though, especially when there's a Code S group that day, and I am just itching to read the results.
