Started work earlier this week. Can't adjust to waking up at 6:30 every morning. It's too hard to adjust from sleeping at 3-4 every morning to sleeping around midnight. Need much help. Spent the last couple days sleeping at like 2 or 3 and just napping as I got home. Then July 4th rolled around and I got like 11 hours of sleep, thus completely screwing up my schedule again.

4:30 as I type this. FML

try sleeping longer than 6h30m a night? since i'm writing on my masters thesis and don't have to get up at any specific time as i work from home, i currently don't use an alarm at all. On my own, i wake up somewhere between 7 and 9 hours sleep every day. I guess it's no problem pushing this down towards 7 hours a day using an alarm, but lowering even further is probably not good.

Now i don't know your natural sleep time, you might know it yourself or you shuold try to find out by going a week without alarm (although you probably can't do that anymore now that you need to be awake at certain times). But when you suddenly sleep 11 hours if you just don't have your alarm set for one day, i would strongly suspect that you just sleep to short every day.

To adjust your sleep starting time: I find staying up longer is usually easier than sleeping earlier, you might just want to not sleep one night at all and then go to sleep one day later at the proper time (or maybe a bit earlier to allow some catching up on the lost night). Ideally do this before the weekend (if you have those free) so you have two days to use for adapting and normalizing. What certainly doesn't work is just going to sleep 6 hours earlier than usual and then sticking with it. You need to at least gradually adjust it like one or two hours a day over the course of a week, if you want to go by the sleeping earlier instead of staying awake through a whole night.

other than that, check the search here, i remember a bunch of good threads about sleeping, insomnia etc. on TL, read those and see what tips you can find there

How do you stay regulated without any external demands? I don't think it's possible for me to limit myself to <10 hours if I don't have something I HAVE to get up for.

Usually if my sleep schedule isn't working for when I need to get up I'll just sleep at my usual (late time), wake up tired, force myself not to take naps, and then go to bed at a sane time for when I need to get up.

It's impossible for me to sleep early every day. I tried really hard for almost a year because my wife has to sleep at 11:30pm every day. Then I reverted to my natural sleeping schedule which is 2:30am-9am.
And also because if I sleep at 11:30, when am I supposed to play BW ?

And nighttime rules, everything feels so quite and soothing.

Sorry if my post doesn't really help you

I'm really jetlagged, I usually sleep around midnight, wake up at 3am and just lie there waiting for morning.
No I'm never serious.

I think in our modern age technology has evolved to become more addictive. The things that don't give us pleasure aren't used as much. Work was never meant to be fun, but doing it makes us happier in the long run.

Take some medication that makes you drowsy to help you fall asleep. A little bit won't kill you, but don't keep taking it everyday.

I've heard not eating for a 16 hour period before you want to wake up helps. I've never tried it though.

Another thing you can do is exercise and expose yourself to daylight as much you can during the day, and then at night use flux on your computer to get you sleepy by exposing you to higher-wavelength light. Actually works quite well for me.

adjusting sleep schedules a few hours earlier like that is also hell for me, sooooo hard to do

way harder than intercontinental jetlag which can be fixed easily by staying up till ur flight, sleeping on plane, and getting drunk upon arrival
why so 진지해?

Wow. Unlike most people here, I am not a nocturnal person. I am just like Sea: sleep at midnight, wake up at 6-7 AM. I love sunlight

Welcome to old man life.

*edit: oops sorry, missed the "need much help" phrase from the OP. Tough it out for the first week, and by the second week your body will auto-sleep at midnight. Less rage less whine more acceptance do it sir raffles!

I've been doing it for what seems likr forever. But I guess it comes pretty easy to me. It just takes time. Each day I go to sleep like an hour earlier until I get to the desired point. Something key is to not play videogames past like, ten. Shit gets your brain going too much, makes it tougher to sleep. Alsoi don't use any electronics in your bed, whether its not time or not.

Also, napping is just going to fuck you every time. Don't get me wrong, usually totally worth it. But you'll have to accept adjusting your expectations for bed time and deal with the consequences.

i don't regulate anything. I go to bed somewhere between 1 and 3 am depending on how many new posts the funny pictures thread has (and various other content ), and just wake up the next morning, after what turns out to be 7 to 9 hours of having slept. sometimes 10 or 11 if i have to catch up a bit, but basically that's it. i guess the important part is to not stay awake until you are completely tired, but to just keep a semi regular go to bed time. I *could* stay up another two or three hours longer usually without feeling to tired, i'd probably sleep longer then, too, and drift into a 27 hour day routine or something like that, but i don't want that. so i just go to bed at around the same time every day and that works out fine. Sure, maybe i sleep an hour more per day than i have to, but not being woken up by an alarm every day is sooo much more relaxed x)

Ah, I see. It lessens the strain on my eyes too and but also helps me get sleepy as it gets darker.

Try exercising in the sunlight more, that can really straighten your sleep clock out and help you get tired so you can sleep earlier. I'm usually too lazy to go do so but if you build a regular pattern of just going for a short run or something like that, you can get healthier and help yourself sleep at night too. Another thing is not to take naps during the day if you can so you're tired earlier. Best of luck, hope the advice you get in the responses do help you out >.<

Yeah seriously, those SC2 events, man...well in China atm and the timing is actually pretty good LOL :D

But even Euro 2012 messed with that, games were at 2:45 am seriously dafuq, stayed up for the 90 minute game then double overtime just to watch Portugal lose in penalties, fuck that shit. Watching the finals, saw Spain up 2 at the half, said gg and went to sleep -__-
