Hocus Pocus by Moonlite Software (published by Apogee) is a side-scroller platform game.
Basic Plot
You play the role of Hocus, an apprentice wizard sent off to prove himself to Terexin, the head of the Wizard Council. To do so, you must beat 36 levels (4 episodes of 9 levels) fighting off enemies with your lightning spell and finding crystal balls.
Gameplay
Pretty much your standard platform game. You could aim your lightning bolts upwards, there were powerups (potions) which temporarily gave you new abilities.
On almost every level was a secret area with a horde of treasure. Additionally on most levels there was a hologram of Terexin who would give you hints about the level or where to find the secret stash.
A puzzle involving levers, how original!
Positives
Well executed, smooth graphics, consistent visuals and sound.
Negatives
Nothing really sets this game apart from its contemporaries and it really didn't push the boundaries at all.
Memorable Moments
I played this again in my early 20's at university and it didn't hold my attention well. I had a really old computer which couldn't handle modern games at the time.
