Happy Monday :D Hope you enjoyed MLG weekend!
It's time for another edition of Food Porn. This week: Lamb Burgers with Tzatziki Sauce!
INGREDIENTS
- Salt
- Pepper
- Rosemary
- Olive Oil
- Dill (not shown)
- 1 1/2 lb of Ground Lamb
- 4 Whole Wheat Buns
- 1 Tomato
- 1/2 Red Onion
- 1/2 cup of Romaine Lettuce
- 1/2 Cucumber
- 1/2 Juice of a Lemon
- 1 Cup of Greek Yogurt
- 1/2 cup of Feta Cheese
- 2 Teaspoons of Horse Radish Powder (You can substitute Horse Radish sauce instead)
PROCEDURE
- Slice your tomato and onion.
- Slice 3/4 of your cucumber; reserve remaining cucumber for Tzatziki sauce.
- Add 1/4 of your cucumber, 1 teaspoon of olive oil, 1 teaspoon of Feta cheese, salt, and pepper into a food processor.
- Process ingredients and remove from food processor.
- Fold in your Greek yogurt and dill.
- Stir in your horse radish (if you are using powder, you may want to add a little water so that you get a paste-like consistency)
- Combine ground lamb, rosemary, salt and pepper. Mix thoroughly.
- Form ground lamb into patties.
- Place burgers in a hot pan.
- Cook burgers for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until the meat begins to bleed (juice will begin to seep out from the burgers).
- When burgers are finished, remove from heat.
- Spread Tzatziki sauce onto the whole wheat buns. Place vegetables on top of the bun. Add your burger. Add cheese.
And you're done! :D

Come on man, now I'm fucking hungry >.<
|
The Tzatziki and feta really round out the lamb really well. I had something very similar to this in Bulgaria once, soo goood!
|
lamb? tzatziki? red onions? sexy as hell!
|
This looks reeeeeeally good :D
I love burgers ^^ Out of curiosity, what made you decide on lamb as opposed to any other meat? Was there any particular reason?
|
Needs to have a spoiler * Dont look at if you are on a diet * Looks amazing!
|
What kind of cheese would you recommend? You didn't mention any particular kind in the ingredients , but mention it in the instructions.
The pictures are gorgeous...
|
OH MY GOD THAT LOOKS SO GOOD WHAT THE FUCK. I NEED IT NOW. *runs to kitchen see if there are burgers.

Oops. Fail on my part.
I suggest Feta.
Let me update the ingredients. :0

T.T I want to make these so bad, but there is no meat in my house atm, only tofu... Going to have to wait until the weekend to buy some ^^ By the way, is there something else other than horseradish that you would recommend for the sauce? I'm not that fond of the taste of horseradish, but I'd like to substitute something else into the recipe instead of just leaving it out
|
that looks disgusting.. i could not force my self to eat what is in that picture. it looks sloppy and gross cant imagine how people eat it.

Pro points for baking!
D: I'm terrible at baking. Takes me so many tries just to get a simple bread recipe right.

looks fantastic, red onions not too strong?

You're about a month too early for April Fool's Day.

Hmm, honestly, I'd just leave out the horseradish in the Tzatziki sauce. Traditional Tzatziki without any additional stuff is pretty darn tasty and it complements the lamb flavors.
If you're looking for something different, you could try a mint-based sauce. It's just basically mint boiled with a little sugar, salt and vinegar.

red onions are sweeter and "weaker" then white ones

Depends on how much you put in the burger. I didn't put to much because I really wanted to just taste the lamb. :p

I got Short and Sweet by Dan Lepard for Christmas and it has done me wonders
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Short-Sweet-Dan-Lepard/dp/0007391439
really good for just about everything baking (breads, cakes, pies, pastry, and all manner of delicious things).

Q_Q I don't have the ability to flame broil or properly grill at my place.
But yes, flame broiled is definitely a billion times better than pan frying.
There's more in the series. I posted a lot of food porn recipes in the past (some are so old that they're not even on my blogspot blog -- they only exist here on TL).
You can find them here: http://www.teamliquid.net/blog/kierpanda

you are one of that guys, who make vegetarians look so creepy.

Really good blog, keep them coming!
Can you post some vegetarian recipes ???
|
This looks quite nice and the picture made me hungry :D
But I usually put some garlic in my tzatziki so I wonder if you didn't put some because it didn't go well with the lamb or if it is the recipe as you usually do it...
|
grounded lamb.... I prefer my lamb in a nice filet form without the rest that gets thrown into the meatwolf. The pic looks good though I have to admit.

I actually didn't think about putting garlic in the tzatziki!
That does sound really good though ... mmm. I'll try that next time. :D

Omg yes! I've made that several times - acordian-style like in the movie... though I used a simplified recipe instead of Thomas Keller's original.

Oooo. Do you have a link to that recipe or did you make the simplified one on your own?

The dill confused me. Was it not a part of the recipe or simply not pictured? If you did use it, where? I didn't see it mentioned anywhere other than the ingredient list. It looks delicious though!
|
woah. I'm not much of a burger guy, but that looks delicious!
|
when it comes to lamb i'm more of a spicy kebab kind of person but that looks good
|
Oh sweet jesus. Why must you do this.

I love lamb... I love tzatziki sauce. After this blog I think I kind of love you kierpanda :3

It is also my understanding that garlic is a key ingredient in tzatziki. But horseradish seems to be an interesting substitute. Is horseradish powder = wasabi or is it something different?

They're close. Wasabi is a type of horseradish. Little different in flavor though. I think wasabi is a bit more "fiery"? Definitely more sinus-clearing than regular horseradish. :p

i think i know why it's called "porn" now

D: Gah. I keep leaving stuff out in the ingredients. bah.
Dill is used in the Tzatziki.
