This is about my first game on iCCup. I'll be writing more of these blogs in the format of a battle report as I have the time (I've played about 30 games thus far, ladder score being 5-7). First, a little background on me and starcraft, in spoilers in case you just want to skip to me getting manhandled as protoss 
+ Show Spoiler +I first played SC in 2000. It was the first RTS I ever played, and I loved it. The references to all the sci-fi movies/shows I watched as a kid stood out the most, I remember. I didn't actually own a PC at the time, and I wouldn't own one until 2004 when I was more into counter-strike due to playing it with friends at a local LAN café, so I never got around to playing BW seriously, but I did watch pro BW games on youtube, and eventually, when SC2 came out, I bought it and had at it. I loved it for a while, but eventually, after getting to diamond as zerg, I just stopped wanting to play. Not because I was losing, but because I just didn't have fun playing it anymore. Recently, my main computer died (dropped a belt on the case and the bios fails to boot), and most games refuse to install on this computer, so I decided, why not try my hand at brood war, for the first time, in a serious fashion? That shit will install on a p1!
And on with the show!
So I get on iCCup, after using this handy thread. I decided to play protoss because I always liked dragoons and watching pros do shuttle play. I join a game, on Python, against a terran. The countdown begins. My heart begins to pump faster, my mind races. What should I do? Do I know any PvT builds? Do I even know this map? Whatever, gotta start somewhere! Let's just do this as well as I can!
The game begins.

I open with something entirely improvised, at the natural choke, to block off... marine runbys? I don't know why I did this.

Why did I do this?
He opens fake double, and I proceed to build two extra gateways and goon range. I learn about the push when I move to his base with two dragoons and a zealot, which is my entire army.

Visions of soiled pants pass through my head.
I steel my nerves, and think, with a little bit of dragoon micro, I can pick off some stuff while he makes his way to my base, to soften the push up so I can hold it!

I think I hurt a marine.
The push makes its way to the front of my base, and I have two goons to hold it. I pray to the gods of BW that he right clicks past my stuff, so I can hold this push.

It's getting cold...
While I do my fail micro, and he curbstomps my two goons, three more pop and hold it off! I kill the vulture, the tank and a couple of marines! One goon remains. I put up a forge (because I can?), get a robo and more goons+a shuttle to do a goon drop (since that's the only thing I have to drop with) while I assault the front of his natural with the rest of my goons (because hey, if he pushed that early with a tank/vult/marines, he can't POSSIBLY hold all these goons, could he?)

I get cornered, pummled and I gg and leave the game.
Dazed and confused, I seek out assistance from the sGs clan that I joined from the thread referenced earlier in this post, but I'll talk about that in my next blog post!

That's a pretty brutal experience, but keep on trying 
Mine was getting hydra busted by Phrygian because i don't know how to ffe on whatever map it was since i couldn't find the natural with my probe...turns out, 2gate stargate expand sucks in bw lol.

This is pretty entertaining, you are in for a world of fun I tell you. You should post replays too though, would be fun to see.

Is there a specfic website to upload BW replays? Or does TL have a built-in function for BW reps?

Just fyi, there's maybe one or two scenarios where you would ever want to put your gateways in your natural like that and they're probably a little above you're level. Build those gateways in your base!

These are my favorite battle reports. Not worrying about being constrained to standard builds, just playing and learning from error. Thanks for posting!

God, the part where you talk about microing yours goons to soften the push followed by the screen of 2 dead goons and a perfectly clean terran army walking by made me laugh so hard. :D

Disregarding everything, Python is a downright terrible map in my opinion.
Still its good that you are trying BW, its really so much fun.

Awesome blog, you gotta love a positive attitude and having fun. I'm getting more and more tempted to give BW a try just for fun... it's such a cool game. I have absolutely no experience with it beyond watching Sayle whenever I can, because Sayle is awesome.

My advice, DO IT! It's fun, even if you don't know anything! Just join the sGs clan here, and you'll have plenty of other more experienced players who are more than willing to show you the ropes!

Yup! Anyone can enter, regardless of experience/RTS background, and get right into practice games with people who'll tell you what you're doing wrong, and how to fix it!

It's "op sGs". There may be some people in there, but we generally hang out in op Teamliquid.
